This is really quite good, apart from the "lip-synching" - but I was always reminded of Stevie Wonder for some reason and I think he could make a good job of this. Apart from the "Leather Jackets" is a brilliant album (Musically) and it never received the accolades it should.
This is why Bernie Taupin said Elton's made an appaling number of appaling albums over the years. /Direct quote from EJ this year:"I'm not one for wallowing in the past but I did go back and listen to Tumbleweed and Madman, and they were better than I could ever have imagined". He knows.....just accepted fact, that those early albums from the 70's are his best work by country miles, save for maybe Songs from the West Coast and the Union.
this song really does sound better when you're drunk. That's not to say it's not good sober but for some reason there's a different level to this song. Plus I'm sure Elton was drunk when he did this video.
@weirdguy75 I have to agree there, this is the first elton album I boot up on Itunes when I'm predrinking to head out somewhere.. this and heartache all over the world do the trick for me
Am I the only one on planet earth who actually thinks the Leather Jackets album isnt too bad? The title track, Go It Alone, Paris.. some great melodies in there in my opinion.
@mrbollocks1979 the only reason the album's frowned upon is cause it charted poorly (#91 on Billboard 200) and elton john admits dat leather jackets is his least favorite album
Yeah, it's his least favorite album (I still like the tracks, though)! Funny thing, Bernie Taupin disagrees with Elton, and says The Big Picture is his least favorite album!
@TylerGDaniels Most everyone would agree with you, but most people don't even count this record when debating which of Elton's albums is worst. It it was included, there would be no contest, thus defeating the purpose of debating the discography at all.
Where is Woody Robertson these days, he was the director for the video "Heartache All Over The World" in 86', filmed in Michigan before the Australia tour ?
You say 50Cent-I Say Led Zeppelin You say Miley Cyrus-I say AC/DC You say T-Pain-I say Deep Purple You say Flowers-I say Van Halen You say Pink-I say Pink Floyd You say Hip Hop-i say Jimi Hendrix You say R&B-I scream Classic Rock You say hanah montana-i hit you in the face 70% of teenagers have turned to Hip Hop and Rap.If you are part of the 30% that still listen to real music, copy and paste this message to another 5 videos. my mom listened to elton john and other performers/band and i never actually appreciated their talent until i grew older. And now this is one of my favorite songs to date.
@IrisMG yes i know what you mean, it is pure 80's elton and you have to appreciate that, styles change and he did, completely different from tumbleweed/honky era
@0586730O2 a huge factor was was during tumbleweed and honky he was sober lol. Not to dis him as he's an Idol of mine but the cocaine and booze had been a factor in his different styles
Well it's hard to compare his latter stuff to those albums. Honky, Tumbleweed, Goodbye Yellow Brick, Captain Fantastic et al are all time classics. I think his 80's stuff was generally good, but like Stevie Wonder and David Bowie that decade, the 70's material overshadowed the newer stuff that it never got proper due on it's own merit.
agree yes, when you have had such a unique long career as his, you will get your peaks and troughs. From being the sensation in the beginning to being out of favour as new styles come in, to being completely unfashionable when no one wants to know. Yes this era is classed under the later.
Easily one of Elton's best albums and songs to boot!!! Too bad a forgotten album where all the songs are great eventhough they ere not promoted... Would have loved to see this tour so hopefully he would have played all the cuts including "Paris" and "Heartaches all over the world"
Leather Jackets had a few good songs like Angeline and Heartache All Over The World. And I loved Rock Of The Westies yet he should've kept Dee and Nigel for that one. Why did Elton dislike this album, anyway?
The album was released over contractual obligations. All the songs on the album were truly never finished properly, production wise. Elton and his record company at the time weren't getting along, so they released it to fulfill the contract, which he didn't want them to do.
OK. But there were a few songs that seemed to turn out very good as I said before. No one can blame Elton anyway. It's such a struggle when musicians have to go through labels, record companies, and obstacles like that.
Elton hated Leather Jackets because he was so wacked out on cocaine while recording it to realize how much of a turd it was going to end up being. I like most of it, but it's defiatly far far FAR from his best work.
Elton goes punk. *lol* Well, this was his really bad album together with "Rock of the Westies" in 1975. But on the whole he has created some fantastic music and I love his music very, very much...
This song is awesome! If you don't like the song, listen to something that you know you will love! This is one of the finest tracks that stood out well on the album comparing to most of the others that were too soft.

I never understood why many folks did not like the Leather album. This title track alone is terrific and has a great dance beat.

Sure, Leather Jackets was quite possibly the poorest Elton John album ever made, but it still had some decent songs on it, and this is one of them.

@TylerGDaniels Well, we could go straight to the first party here: Elton is quoted in the most recent issue
of Rolling Stone, and he says "The Big Picture" was his career lowpoint.
