Ironically, this game will work with Windows 7 which has a Windows XP emulator. I tried this fix, but I can't find the "railroads.exe" file. Is it on the DVD or on the hard drive ?

It will be in the hard drive, inside a folder called "2K Games" in Program Files.

You can't edit the DVD.

gave this a go and it worked fine till about 90 minutes into the game(before it crashed within the first 5 minutes) and froze like it did without the mod, ah well.

you do know that there is a patch on the website right?

it make everything better make it run on vista and even if you are not on vista fixs any bugs that might be in it.

That patch was released before vista, I can play it on vista, but due to complications with memory and vista it crashes and causes graphical glitches

Which is why i think there is a company working on an offical patch for vista to fix bugs!

Vista trashes too many of my favourite games (including this one) for me to even consider getting it. Maybe by the time they release Service Pack 4,250,453 they'll have all the bugs worked out of it, and then maybe I'll consider buying it. But right now its behaving more like a beta package than a finished product, and its clearly not as backwards compatible as they claim it is. Nice one Microsoft. Do you think you could possibly screw it up worse if we paid you more?

That's great! Glad you're helping them out too! Your addon is top-notch, and it's great that you're helping the Vista users sorted out.

I still contend that Vista shouldn't even be out of beta yet, but what's new about that? It's Microsoft after all!

This is the only game that Vista trashed for me. I can even play homeworld now and I couldn't play that since ME (and we all remember what a ClusterFk ME was) Every other game works for me now. Some games didn't initialy but came up with patches to fix the issues. What's taking Sid so long?

The Civilization franchise is much more profitable, thus has higher priority for Firaxis.

@Trainguyxx i wouldnt worry, railroads has missing a *&itload of features rt2 and 3 had that make routing trains and laying track easier... and as for the fix, that was then, since then microshaft released a fix for vista in service pack1 to address the issue and do the same thing and the game still crashes now and then with the stock game but with the mod intercontinental it crashes nearly every time you try to place a depot or annex, even when paused.. it just crashes as soon as u unpause.

You idiot, the patch doesnt fix Vista issues, even Firaxis Games admits that. There are hundreds of posts about this issue online. The forum posts are complicated, this video is a quick and stable solution.
