Cloverfield is a deep sea creature that was awakened when a satellite fell from space and woke it up. Apparently it's a baby and just woke up from its slumber. The small creatures on its body (called parasites) are also other deep sea creatures that feed off of the monster. Apparently since the creature is moving about and getting shot, the small parasites crawl about and eat humans and when they do bite you, the human body reacts by expanding and exploding.
Cloverfield is amazing. Its 100% better than Blair Witch. Cloverfield actually had characters you liked and cared about. Not to mention its incredibly intense. I understand the camera gimmick isnt for everyone, but come on people use some common sense. Do you really think a scientist is gonna pop up and tell you what this monster is? Get real. The whole point of the film is what if you picked up a camera and started filming this. Would you know what the monster is? No.
I had no interest in watching this movie. I thought it would be good, until some random guy came out of the theater yelling "Cloverfield sucks!! Don't watch it!"
I think it was a great movie....in fact it was the most fun i had in theaters in a real long time...It sucks how people got motion sickeness (i never got any) but for those who didnt it was a great.But this is your everyday Hollywood film you know its you unique.

The whole movie had an ARG that explained the movie outside of the film. Explaining what the monster is in film just removes the enigma that the movie's monster was absed on.

-u can see the satellite fall in the waters of New york at the end of the movie when the guy and beth are on the ferris wheel (right side of the screen)
I can see that this movie is split between two groups: Those who want to see the usual hollywood blockbuster with cookiecutter characters you've seen before, and those who are crying out for something a little bit different. I'm from the latter group, and I absolutely loved this movie. Part of the reason I love this movie so much is that the makers had the balls to leave everything up in the air.
Great concept putting monster movie with amature cameraman holding camera from a rope. he zoom in and out too much just to get yah to barf your popcorn all over the person next to you. They even though of carrying any kind of weapon when danger is around the corner nope. Movie was OK but they need to put more dumb actors in the movie.
