So the only purpose of the shirt is to enable you to bench more? Well jesus why not go a little further and just have someone else bench it for you!! Shirt benching sounds pretty lame to me....
@breezeman199 that is quite an assinine comment.... Bench shirts dont let you do Chest exercises 3 times a week due to fast recovery because of increased testosterone
one thing you failed to mention is HOW MUCH EXTRA might I expect to get out of the shirt in terms of poundages? I can bench 330 with absolutely no assistance, one thing I've heard is that with practice you can get up to 100lbs out of the shirt, so in effect I should be able to bench 400lbs with the right shirt on, correct?
bench vest are part of the new age slack ass weightlifting , like dead lift suits and squat suits n wrist straps. i have pride in my sport and that is raw natural weightlifting , anyone disagree can go fuck themselves cos this new age suited shit is a fucking joke ...steroids can fuck off also
personaly i dont see the point cheating, i mean i could lift 3000000lbs if i had a crain hlpin me so i dont think id ever use one of these even if it only hlps me a bit i would feel as if im giving up and giving in and then i might as well start on the roids...:(
@MrFirestorm102 well why don't you post vids of your raw bench and shirted bench, I've seen dudes do that, just to prove they actually are strong without the shirt as well
bench shirts are fucking stupid. "well... it helps you explode the weight off your chest.." yeah, the hardest damn part of the lift! for injury, fine, whatever, but for anything else, that's just stupidity. you could build much more muscle just repping a light weight full range of motion every time without a shirt.
it gives me about 3 inches of resistance off my chest. this allows just enough to take most of the strain off my shoulders. after the 3 inches, what ever weight i put up is strictly on me, not the shirt. so the smaller, stiffer and tighter the shirt, the more distance of resistance it will give you. some people have them so tight that from about 8 inches off the chest they have to actually pull the weight down. basically, if you can't handle the weight then go lighter.
i have a bench shirt too. i'm 5'7, 205 lbs and my raw bench is 465 lbs. with the shirt my bench only went up 25 lbs. if you use the correct benching technique and form when pressing heavy weight , your raw bench and shirt bench won't be that much different. I think it depends on the user. the stiffer and tighter the shirt, the more pounds you can lift. i on the other hand don't like the shirt to be tight. i use it because i have bad shoulders and it gives me about 3 inches of resistance.
The shirt no shirt debate will continue forever , if Powerlifting makes it to the Olympics it will be interesting to see if it is allowed, personally I doubt it
The one thing that the OP missed, was that you really need to learn how to use the shirt and get your technique PERFECT. or all youll do in the shirt is you will dump it on your chest, or throw it back up onto your throat, or never get a big bench in it. I guarantee all the raw zealots that talk the shit now, put on a shirt, would have a change of tune.
im shocked that not only are these shirts used, they have to have special competitions so athletes will NOT use them.what the hell is wrong with people now-a-days
@Luggerful Have you ever played rugby or seen rugby played? type rugby hits on here and compare it to football hits. i thought the same thing as a football player until I started playing rugby in college. I've never been wrecked as bad as I have in rugby. since I've played both, I absolutely respect and love both, but rugby scrums are even more physical on the ears, head and shoulders than d-line vs o-line, and the open field hits are just as hard, but with no pads. both are brutal
Before I made my post, I wondered why Rugby didn't use pads whereas US football did. I found a paper analyzing the high force (key phrase here) number of hits in a given time period vs the two sports. The researcher concluded Rugby simply didn't have the same number of high force hits, ergo pads were a determent in the sport. Admittedly, it is a proven fact that more injuries occur in Rugby than US football, although some sources report hamstrings and others head as the #1 injury in the sport.
lol i just discovered this (using a normal tshirt as a bench shirt) like 2 seconds ago and then i see this video o.0 lol weird as hell... i thought it was my invention xD
weel eric branson if you dont know hot to use it your lucky to get 20 lbs out of it. but if you know your shirt inside and out and can use it well it can easily exceed 100 lbs depending on the quality of the shirt.
I think I might have mentioned it in the video. It really depends on the shirt and the lifter. Could be 100-200lbs, could be 10-50lbs. Ridiculously large range, I know, but that's the best answer I can give.
it doesn't take away from the exercise, it just makes you do more. I am not saying bench shirts should be used, I am saying that you are not cheating yourself. So long as you note that you were using one when you got those numbers.
It's only cheating yourself if you bench in a shirt and somehow believe that your "shirted" numbers are anything close to the same thing.
Bench shirts are a part of the powerlifting game and if you're going to compete in equipped PL, you better get with the times or just plan on getting your arse handed to you regularly.
so ders no point, like dass me timing how fast i am runnin normal den timing myself runnin on my hands...its jus not da same, liftin witta "shirt" isnt the same as liftin witout 1...jus lift naturaly witout any gimicks or steriods
That isn't shorthand, it's incoherent dribble. Steroids and powerlifting "gear" are both tools. If you compete in mainstream powerlifting, they are part of the game, not cheating. If a guy benches 700 with a shirt and after years of hard training with steroids also, that's great. If a guy benches 300 raw with no juice, that's awesome too. The 300 guy doesn't need to bad mouth the 700 guy - they have different goals.
Is it cheating that track stars have pegs in their shoes? Better grip than raw?
to all you guys that put down bench shirts grow some balls and lift some weight until your rotator cuffs a fryd because of benching over 400lbs for years you have no right to an opinion on the subject and on top of that if your wearing a bench shirt and someone that your competing against wears one to its fucking fair
Most powerlifters use bench shirts in competition, but there are "raw" competitions that do not allow them. Of course, the point is to bench more weight, but they do give support to the shoulders.
exactly, for instance I'm a prime canidate for a bench shirt. I have chronic shoulder pain from a car accident 2 years ago and I can train in a bench shirt pain free as it keeps my shoulder compressed. Plus my shoulder is too loose when I try and max raw, for instance I barely got 225 a little while ago, but have hit 335 with a single polyshirt. The shirt allows me to keep getting stronger where as without it one small part of the chain would hold me back...
It's not cheating, it's different... You'll never get anywhere with that attitude. I suppose you think sprinters should run barefoot, and tennis players should serve with their hands too????
So the only purpose of the shirt is to enable you to bench more? Well jesus why not go a little further and just have someone else bench it for you!! Shirt benching sounds pretty lame to me....
