@GasCityGuy that is exactly what it was a parody of, meaning this probably aired in 1990, when coolers were well beyond their peak. Wine Coolers were always too sweet for me. They are a chick-drink.
Everybody drank wine coolers back in the late 80's,when they became popular.I wasn't allowed to drink beer but I was allowed 1 or 2 wine coolers occasionally.
The stuff was (is?don't know, haven't had one in years) made by the worlds largest winery,Gallo.Basically if you have a wine or wine product that says Modesto CA on the label,it's made by Gallo,Boones Farm and Thunderbird are a couple of fine examples....
Amen! When kids could get blitzed and parents didn't exist. (In the 80's!) Where you could get laid while drive-ins still played. (In the 80's!) Feel free to add your own. Hehe. What's interesting to note here was how at this time, before Yuppies sold out the brat pack, you could watch commercials like these without blinking on programs top rated for family entertainment including sports entertainment like WWF, wrestling on ESPN, TBS, etc.
@Mysterwright when kids would call each other racist names, where you could only hang out in cliques at school, where every talk show on earth talked about satanic cults, u.f.o.'s, and the evil of heavy metal lyrics, where everyone had to wear polo shirts and act like Micheal J. Fox on Family Ties, where we had to listen to crap like Michael McDonald, Peabo Bryson, and "Adult Urban Contemporary."
@evelsteev When bikers were anti-heroes, when cliques were co-ed, when phil donohue fought big bad mama from gorgeous ladies of wrestling and geraldo got his nose busted every other week, izod and ocean pacific shirts too, preppy girlfriends fucked everyone and sometimes everyone's dad for promotion, you could listen to radios at a beach, popsicles had real fruit and sodas real sugar, the that fanciest hip-hop got were with tracks like rocket by herbie hancock and axel f from beverly hills cop.
I remember this commercial from about 20 years ago. It is parodying a NIKE ad campaign that featured Bo Jackson. In that commercial, Bo knew all kinds of sports, not just football. LOL!!! Thanks for the memories!
It's hard to describe, but to give you an idea, try this: soak a loaf of bread in 2 quarts of water for 4 hours. Strain the bread mush out of the water, and use the water to make lemon-lime Kool-Aid. :)
I think that was a parody of the 'Bo Knows' ads. The Bartles and James ads were great although I didn't like the coolers all that much.

Ah the good old days when wine coolers really were wine coolers (not beer coolers like today)
Mash77x 3 years ago 7
They contained wine, not malt liquor?
badderthanyou 3 years ago
yeah, back in the 80s they did. Otherwise they'd be "Beer coolers" ;-)
Something about a wine tax made them switch to "malt beverage" in the 1990s.

fuck yes mfnickster! It was actually a bit fizzy too, if I remember right. Anymore it's wine carbonated substitute chemically altered juice product.

Takes me back to the days when wine coolers had WINE in them, and they weren't all Zima-type malt beverages.
mfnickster 5 years ago
I don't drink, so my "?" is, what is it about Zima that people don't like?
