  • sad to think that their god awful hair was once in style

  • Yes it`s Stan Lynch :)

  • One of my favourite Roger McGuinn tracks.

  • Nice live performance, but LOL, brings back painful memories of conchos and mullets.

  • Stan Lynch on drums from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

  • sounds like the byrds.....noting wrong with that. but where did the back from rio studio recordings go that use to be on youtube? dont tell me those busy body youtube police are being small agian!!!!!!

  • Is that Tom Petty's drummer Stan Lynch on drums? Plays and looks a LOT like him...?

  • @RockandRollFan1991 It sure is!

  • where is the official video gone?

  • Awesome. To Richintalent, get a Variax! There is a perfect model of Rogers axe, right down to the year of Byrds fame.

  • The Headlights were a better backing bad than these guys!

  • . . . still the best in years - classic ! ! !

  • He Was the Byrds, and this is exceptionally brilliant .........loved it then, and still do. Magic Mcguinn

  • @GreyCampbell You could make a case that Gene Clark was every bit as much the Byrds...Their first two albums were as close to perfect as two albums get, and Clark's exceptional songwriting was a major part of that. Although they still made a lot of great music, they were never as great again after Clark's loss. They were still capable of writing great songs, but each of their albums after that still had about half great songs and half uninspired filler. And I'm as big a Byrds fan as anyone.

  • I am STILL kicking myself for having to sell my Danelectro 12-string- sounded just like a Rick!

  • I've always loved this song, and bought the album on release.

I still play it,but this song was originally a duet with Tom Petty (who I also love) and for the life of me,I can't figure out who is singing what!.

  • @neohip well, kudos to Roger and Tom (I can barely tell the difference between the two in that wonderful version myself). So, honestly in my humble opinion, thank you Roger for the song, thank you very much Roger for doing a FANTASTIC version with Tom!

  • @eqgilethan

    Amen to that!

  • @neohip As far as their voices sounding similar—McGuinn tells a great story about the first time he heard "American Girl" on the radio, and was so struck by the similarity in their voices that he actually thought it was an old Byrds record...He laughingly said he thought he was losing his mind because he could not, for the life of him, remember recording it.

  • @Salguine

    Yes,a great story!.

    But I guess I don't really care anymore.As a fan of both, it is a win-win!

I can imagine Roger doing the whole thing,or Tom,the end result is still the same; a classic!.

  • What a great song. I think I was the only kid in 12th grade in 1991 that was totally blown away with this album!

  • Loved him in the 60's, still love him...he is awesome

  • ICONS

  • This man is STILL touring and puts on the most intimate and amazing performance. He makes one guitar sound like 4.

  • Thank you for this video. I have been looking a long time for this one. I recorded it when he was on Johnny's on VSH, but you know how that goes, wore it out before DVD came along.

  • John Jorgenson on guitar!! Desert Rose Band The guy shreds big time.

  • Too bad Tom Petty wasn't there with him.

  • awesome song and stan lynch on drums! sweet!

  • i never noticed that was Lynch on the drums here ... good eye ! i dig McGuinn's neck blanket too . in all seriousness , what a talent he is .

  • Budgerigar Roger.

  • Great stuff! Kinda wish he'd included the second verse, though. "The driveway is long..."

  • Seems a petty thing to pick on.

  • hahaha!

  • It's not pc to laugh at budgies. Unless they're byrds.

  • John Jorgenson what a talent

  • without a doubt, one of the best albums ever... Back From Rio

  • This was his greatest come back album!

  • You got that right. Fabulous Album

  • This is such a great album. Man, I wish he would do another one. I love every song on this release..........Doc Waltz

  • STUNNING!! You got to love this song. (btw written in Gothenburg, Sweden) Absolutely one of the best songs EVER written...

  • I agree! This was Roger's best work since the original Byrds.

  • Preet good. Nice sound.

  • Love this song!! 5 stars
