USA Taekwondo Ignores reality and keeps putting the wrong team on the floor... despite adequate time and resources Jean Lopez failed to make satisfactory headway in gaining a gold medal team ... time for a new coach and a new team. Misguided efforts!!
Graf is good..but I've fought better. If he can't outfight Lopez he will never be world champion That should be the aim of any tkd fighter today. Just like MMA guys aim at Fedor tkd fighters should aim at the lopezes
I do sport tkd...obviously by my youtube name..lol...but..cutting weight is pretty much a normal thing..i hear adults cutting 30lbs 2 days before a tourney...so..cutting weight not much of a big deal...what i wanna know is what mark was doing about the 5:55 point of the video..not sure what he was saying to the other guy
Speak for yourself..as different as YOU might find them, they still are near the same. Whether you're cutting or dieting or doing it over a long process or a short period of time, or doing it in a healthy process or stupidly, you're still LOSING POUNDS YOU'RE STILL LOSING WEIGHT. same difference
Caps lock all you want, but they are not the same thing.
As for it being illegal, yes cutting weight should be banned from combative sports. Because of it a majority of fighters are not fighting at their actual weight class, and it really only penalizes those who follow the rules. Plus, if some douche ends up killing himself while trying to beat the system, it makes the entire sport look bad.
No one is beating any system. If they arent using drugs to make weight that is detected, and they weigh in at the weight they signed up for. Everyone is still following rules. Even if people didnt cut weight someone will always have the disadvantage. Thats why people cut. So they have upper hand. I would think as a competitor you'd wanna have upper hand in any situation. And there have been no sports ruling against that.
If a guy is only five-five and can barely keep himself inflated at 150 (just an example, of course), he needs a lower weight-class. However, the guy who is six-feet and consistently cuts weight to 150 just so he can fight smaller people, then immediately gains twenty-thirty pounds back the day after weigh-in, is taking advantage of the system.
It's why nobody can take Anderson Silva seriously when he dominates the UFC middleweight class--he should be fighting heavyweights.
No, but I'll explain for ur benefit. A diet is eating and drinking sparingly to reduce ur weight (losing pounds) as well removing certain foods from ur staple consumption. This can be for a long term or temporary period of time. Again both the same thing, in a different process, and at different means, but in the end the same
Sorry, pal, but they don't mean the same thing, will never mean the same thing, and that you can't seem to let this go only makes you look incredibly weird.
"A diet is eating and drinking sparingly to reduce ur weight (losing pounds) as well removing certain foods from ur staple consumption"
Cutting weight is dropping several pounds of water nearly overnight to make the weight limit. It can involve all kinds of things, but eating sparingly and removing certain kinds of food is not one of them.
So no, unless you count hacking off a limb as dieting, it is not a diet.
Apparently u cant let it go either so u say the same thing about urself
And clearly u cant comprehend my point, still. In cutting weight u said u lose several pounds of of water to make the weight limit. In a diet, ur losing pounds so u can make a weight limit as well, just over a longer and healthier period of time. And even sometimes that diet may not be a healthy route. BUT EITHER WAY UR STILL LOSING WEIGHT
So by ur definition, losing lots of water means taking off a limb..ok..
steven beat the middle weight people (karmai and tanriluku in olympics...but yeah i think he should have moved up to heavy it would be way more prestigious to have olympic gold in feather welter and heavy than to do welter twice..
USA: Sherman Spinks used to score with punches (one of the few --good times dude -swampy). Make the punch a scoreable technique again, teach it in scenario against opponents and this blocking bs will be less attractive.
I am tired of seeing people who are 6'1 and 160 lbs. Like steven lopez is 6'1 or 6'2 and he fights welter/light. He should go up a class to middle and see how he does then. He's won medals in feather/ welter i think? So why noy get a new challenge. Be like antony graf.
The Lopezes: They don't fight hard. They are merely hard to fight. Peter puts his leg up just like Steven and just makes it impossible to engage. A true taekwondo champion wins with good attack, counterattacks and strategy. The lopezes win by cutting weight to be the tallest, then using their chicken legs to block and faking injuries. You can literally die of boredom watching them fight.
well id figure most if not competitors cut weight they can be the taller fighter in their division. im 5'9 and i fight feather and everyone ive fought was always taller than me if not my height. and getting a cut kick down is strategy. the sport is more than a brawl with legs its also a mind game of chess. using the cut kick and help u buy time and feel ur oppenent with what he likes to do til ur ready to strike
quit crying just because I'm correct. If u had a technique that u could use and get away with like the Lopez's do you would use it to. JUST LIKE ANY COMPETITOR WOULD DO
I raise my leg in sparring...lol. It hurts their leg and while they're like "damn that hurt" Im kicking them. So, whatever it takes to win...do it. It must not be illegal if they let them do it.
it all depends on the fighter weather they wana try block most of the time they wud get ko'd if that happen in this sport.. they also use ter arms to fake aswell as punchin the body armour..
Because is more easy turn your body and see the kicks coming, also you don't hurt your arms any way we have body armor, other reason is because we fight very fast so if you have your arms down they block the target, normally we don't use punches and some Blockades are illegal "not all but some"
u know what, it's because we are so much cooler than all the other martial artists... nah, could u explain to me why u would fight with hands up when fighting stance is out of kicking range and punches to the face aren't allowed?
Because if you ever fight someone outside of a TKD tournament, you're going to get hit in the face. I train a few TKD fighters in karate/kickboxing and they have a really bad habit of fighting with their hands down and end up getting hit a lot. They're doing much better now, but it took a while to break the habit. The president of the TKD club at my college has trained with us a few times and he has the same bad habit.
yeah, nonetheless those are international a-class TAEKWONDO tournaments, and those fighters are possibly better off not to follow the hands-up advice.
well we cant really punch as it is..and besides the way we kick and with all the fast combinations that are used its easier to just let ur hands hang loose at the side..try to fight that hard with olympic sparring with ur hands up like a boxer..gonna be harder to move ur body for kicking like ud be used to
Because 90%+ kicks are directed to the sides of their body. It's not boxing, there is no punching to the face so hands up is not necessary in sport TKD. That's what TKD tournaments are ... sport, not fights.
I know it's for the sports tournaments. I just think that it can develop into a bad habit for when they either compete elsewhere or have to use their art for self defense.
Practicing for sport TKD and practicing for Self-Defense are two different things entirely. Some TKD skills such as footwork, power, speed, agility, durability, strategy etc... are transferable to many different self defense scenarios while some tactics and techniques such as hands down or flashy kicks are not. Similarly some boxing tactics and UFC tactics are not advisable in real street combat either. Sport is not self-defense no matter what the discipline.
