My greatest problem with Capitalism is its undue faith in Market Forces which are far to easily manipulated by unscrupulous entrepreneurs. Also, I think Goat's discussion of reputation ignores the ease with which an innocent person's reputation can be ruined by unsubstantiated rumor.
Hmmm... Capitalism is a good thing. Because capitalism is competition. But it needs to be controlled somehow. Look at nature, that is unchecked capitalism; unchecked competition. What happens in nature: One set of organisms outcompete another set of organisms, and in the end you end up with a monopoly in that ecological nice.
Think of the game monopoly. What is the object of the game? To create a monopoly. Unless laws and regulations are set in place, people or companies will at some time be able to monopolize a trade.
Any DRO would be in command of a seperate stash of weapons as well as armed men. If not they would have no chance in protecting you or enforcing their decisions. Those weapons will have to be stored someplace, and the men would need to live somewhere, and wherever such men and weapons are in heavy concentrations would be a place where that DRO would be more potent and powerful... I guess that is my point.
Also... A DROs main worry and purpose would be to earn money in order to stay in operation, not nescessearely the welfare of its clients. As soon as one DROs influence grows in one area, that could in effect be controlled by that DRO, and other DROs might have problems wrestling that power from it.
No one is enforceing anything... DRO is just an extention of an insurance idea.
