  • this game was tough

    impressive graphics for its age

  • best sms game... the father of onimusha...

  • Yee Haw! pero que juego tan padre! i love Samurais but i love more Jesus! God is Good, not a Video Game, NERDS!!!!!!

  • but christ, they don't make those bonus stages easy, do they?

  • what a game. great music and great graphics for the time create just an all-around great feel for a game. i still remember the first time i played this back in '88. gave me chills.

sega master system was a very underrated system with a lot of underrated titles.

  • Holy cripes, I can't believe I found this. I used to have this game and I loved it, but it was so frustrating. I remember trying to defeat some giant of a boss and I could never do it.

  • yeah Alexkidd try to beat the Kenseiden world and he end up death!!!

  • Ah this Game was so great. I took me 17 years to find out that you get many new Moves, if you beat the Bonus Stage. I never finish a Bonus Stage -.-

3 or 4 years ago, i play it with a Emulator and use Save States for the Bonus Stages.

  • Alex Kid's head is just lying around, that's creepy... 2:53

  • LOL OMG when I was a kid every time I would hear the song @ 00:50 I would Shake my head left and right and go. Ching Chong Ching Chong. lol that was so wrong but iwas just a kid lol...................I still do it.

  • this is the first game where i noticed attention to detail. If you look, the guy loosk different when he walks in each direction.

  • i so loved this game as a kid thanks for the play through

  • A música das fases de treinamento me faziam cagar de medo...

    Sério... sombria pra caralho!

  • @m7743g

heeheh é verdade brother. Esse jogo é um dos melhores do Master, justamente pq era sombrio.

  • love this game... but the training centers were a bitch ;[

  • Great game. The only thing I didn't like is the moving pace of your character.

  • And now, let's play the Master System versions of Strider and Mortal Kombat.

    ...

    ;_;

  • AMAZING game! Easily one of the best of the 8 bit era! Sick graphics too for an 8bit game too!

  • @Forzaabruzzo Yeah I am impressed by the looks here. Man I miss Sega.

  • I remember spending hours and hours on this game: simple and intuitive but not cheesy controls, well-balanced mechanics, a well rendered setting creating an immersive feeling, the ability to choose what levels you would play and a difficulty that depends on it.

When the basics are healthy and the game is not burdened by unnecessary things it cannot go wrong, the hype be damned !

  • Can't believe it your amazing at this the 2 jumping monkeys, and all the shit on the screen thought it was impossible.

  • \m/

  • This was one of the best games on the Master System and highly underrated. The action, levels, and different sword moves were awesome.

  • got this game for christmas and I played it every day for a month.

  • Reminds me of Getsu Fuuma Den

  • defo in ms top10

  • I loved this game but always thought the hero run way too slow!!!

  • Great game..!!

  • This game was better than both Shinobi, and Ninja Gaiden!

  • great stuff, & funny typo @ 4:48 "Thou Have learnt to slash with your Sord" instead of "SWORD"

  • I had the high score for this in GamePro way back... for a couple years... until some cheater back tracked.

  • funny i haven't anytime watsoever for x box or playstation but i LOVE Kenseiden,im gonna rip some samples from this for a tune!!heh heh.VECTORMAN was pretty cool too =O)

  • Still a great game! One of the SMS' best.

  • what do the charms do? what does picking up that sword at 9:00 do?

  • @jf1gd2 Charms improve defense.

The ordinary sword improves attack until you die.

The sword given by blue skull boss improves more and does not go away when you die.

There is also extra life, continue (book) and med kit, that restores HP when it run out of it.

  • @BlitzkriegBR thanks, so that means the chrams mean you lose less life when you get hit, is that what you mean by improved defense? and the sword improves attack power?

  • @jf1gd2 That's what she said.

  • I wish there was youtube back in the day, I NEVER COULD FINISH THIS DAMN GAME!

  • kenseiden is better as shinobi.

  • This game is harder than fuck; it still is.

  • this had some of the best boss music for it's time.

  • I loved how you could take your own path to the end and pick up different techniques along the way.

  • AW this was the game.

  • One of my all time favorite game with Spellcaster! The music is just brilliant!!

  • This Game was the Love of My Life at one Point... I remember Christmas in 4th Grade. i spent the whole Day Christmas playing this in the Basement...

  • omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my child time

  • it was a kinda scary game, but man the sound of those midi were Suprer Hiper Excellent! for a 8 bit console like this one,and the gameplay was too long whoaa, but really worthy to play : ),thanks.5!

  • I played this game too much.

  • loved this game

  • Much memories, I just loved and love this game

  • Man this game used to kick my ass when I growing up in the 80's. I couldnt stop playing it though

  • Damn, I don't know how, but you made this game look easy. I only recently got a Master System, so this game murders my ass easily.

  • Fantastic! I wore this game out too!

  • Alex Kidd cameo at 2:51.

  • Sega had some great sidescroll fighting games back then. this used to be one of my favorites. good memories.

  • once again the music is a real standout :)the game wouldve benefited with maybe like a few weapons hehehe, yes i know its no ninja gaiden.

  • If you look from 2:51 till about 2:53 I swear thats alex kids head at the bottom it sticks out like a sore thumb!!

  • @boonyboy I remember seeing that as a kid and thinking there was a hidden item there. I tried to figure out how to get whatever was hidden there. Now that I'm older I realize it's just an Easter Egg put in by the programmers.

  • Do you guys realise that this game was Evelyn Rispa's favourite??

  • It looks like he is running... but then again...

  • One of my favorite games. The Castlevania of the SMS.

  • Did you know that the character you play as is Chun Li from Street Fighter 2??

  • fucking dumbass

  • One of the first games I ever played...when i was like 4 or 5 years old haha good ol days

  • good times

  • This game was so great. I loved it. The music, the gameplay and the challenge. All superb!

  • 9:20 I don't need your damn training lol!

  • very good player.

  • This game(Kenseiden) is very similar to Samurai Ghost(Genpei Toumaden in Japanese) by Namco. Check it out and compare them to be amazed :)

  • I think was my first bootleg game... no book, all in Japanese. Hard as hell too- esp the training rounds.

  • "slash with your sord" HAHA CLASSIC!

  • 'Sord' has a silent W - sord = sWord.

  • @Freshness408 That so needs to be a t shirt.

  • great game! i loved this one!

  • Old school!

  • man, those creatures used to freak me out when i was young!

  • sweet memories

  • Its similarity to Revenge of Shinobi is very apparent because it was almost certainly made by the same development team (which later became Overworks I think).

Kenseiden has the sophistication and depth of a 16bit game. Its pretty damn stunning; how many 8-bit games have this many moves, levels, and are as non-linear (Kenseiden can be completed in many ways)?

  • I was 12 years old when I played this in January of 89'.

  • damn this shit just brought back some MAJOR memories hahaha

  • Hard, but yet another amazing game from my childhood. =)

Could never beat the first Warlock though...

  • You make those "practice" levels look so much easier than they really were...

  • Wow, I havn't played this game in over ten years...I should dig it out.

  • THOU HAVE LEARNT TO SLASH WITH YOUR SORD.

    Epic game =]

  • Anyone else notice this game is exactally like Shinobi for Sega Genesis? Maybe with some new sprites???

  • no.

  • Yeah this Game was Hot! The Best SMS game at the time! I thought I was never gonna se this game again. Thanx for posting it! Brings back memeories

  • Best game ever! Those were the days! The games today fail in comparison!

  • I'll drink to that!

  • Man, i really miss this game!!!

  • Does anybody remember the maze game Montezuma's Revenge?

  • hell yea i think i finished it. wow that was in 1989 somewhere

  • a very hard game...the entire game kinda reminds me of the hard pyramid stage in spellcaster! bad but at the same good memories!!

  • best game on the sms- or on any other format for that matter. the nes might have been more popular in america and japan due to nintendos slag tactics towards sega but in australia and the uk sms dominated because it was easy to see it was the better system and harder for nintendo to convert us. suck shit mario you fat childish character.

  • lol

  • this game was sooo annoying when you got hurt though, it pushed you backwards in slow motion

that brought everything to a halt...

  • This game was on par with alot of SNES and Genesis games.

The Sega Master System did some great things in its lifetime

  • it had rastan no game ever was as good as rastan on sms... besides sms had a lot of long play value were as nes games were pretty soon over... yeah everybody is talking about short living that days but who in the first place made all that stupid chooses, the masses did buying nes and how cool it is but never even bother to think deeper who deserved the money i say sega was so awesome a shame nintendo won

  • i don´t buy a NES, i steal it XD

  • Now THIS was the best game of the 8-Bit era. It was like a samurai ver. of Castlevania
