what a game. great music and great graphics for the time create just an all-around great feel for a game. i still remember the first time i played this back in '88. gave me chills.
sega master system was a very underrated system with a lot of underrated titles.
Holy cripes, I can't believe I found this. I used to have this game and I loved it, but it was so frustrating. I remember trying to defeat some giant of a boss and I could never do it.
LOL OMG when I was a kid every time I would hear the song @ 00:50 I would Shake my head left and right and go. Ching Chong Ching Chong. lol that was so wrong but iwas just a kid lol...................I still do it.
I remember spending hours and hours on this game: simple and intuitive but not cheesy controls, well-balanced mechanics, a well rendered setting creating an immersive feeling, the ability to choose what levels you would play and a difficulty that depends on it.
When the basics are healthy and the game is not burdened by unnecessary things it cannot go wrong, the hype be damned !
funny i haven't anytime watsoever for x box or playstation but i LOVE Kenseiden,im gonna rip some samples from this for a tune!!heh heh.VECTORMAN was pretty cool too =O)
@BlitzkriegBR thanks, so that means the chrams mean you lose less life when you get hit, is that what you mean by improved defense? and the sword improves attack power?
it was a kinda scary game, but man the sound of those midi were Suprer Hiper Excellent! for a 8 bit console like this one,and the gameplay was too long whoaa, but really worthy to play : ),thanks.5!
@boonyboy I remember seeing that as a kid and thinking there was a hidden item there. I tried to figure out how to get whatever was hidden there. Now that I'm older I realize it's just an Easter Egg put in by the programmers.
Its similarity to Revenge of Shinobi is very apparent because it was almost certainly made by the same development team (which later became Overworks I think).
Kenseiden has the sophistication and depth of a 16bit game. Its pretty damn stunning; how many 8-bit games have this many moves, levels, and are as non-linear (Kenseiden can be completed in many ways)?
You can play these games again, using an emulator on your PC. FreezeSMS is a sega emulator. Romguy com has many emulators and roms for many consoles and ole computer like c64/128.
best game on the sms- or on any other format for that matter. the nes might have been more popular in america and japan due to nintendos slag tactics towards sega but in australia and the uk sms dominated because it was easy to see it was the better system and harder for nintendo to convert us. suck shit mario you fat childish character.
it had rastan no game ever was as good as rastan on sms... besides sms had a lot of long play value were as nes games were pretty soon over... yeah everybody is talking about short living that days but who in the first place made all that stupid chooses, the masses did buying nes and how cool it is but never even bother to think deeper who deserved the money i say sega was so awesome a shame nintendo won
my 1st system was a SMS. and this was my 1st game.

what do the charms do? what does picking up that sword at 9:00 do?
jf1gd2 1 year ago
@jf1gd2 Charms improve defense.
The ordinary sword improves attack until you die.
The sword given by blue skull boss improves more and does not go away when you die.
There is also extra life, continue (book) and med kit, that restores HP when it run out of it.
