@jjjazzycraig Actually... having your hands on the "wheel" of the plane, it is just useless, when on the ground you steer with your feet. Also, in aircraft, the "wheel" is a control stick, yolk, joystick, something of that nature, not some circular plastic and foam thing. I would hate to be a passenger of a plane that utilizes a wheel to control it.

Documented Mig17 max speed is 93% of sound speed.

the sound barrier changes depending on your altitude. mach number is not like mph or other speeds in that sense. the sound barrier drops by around 20% in speed just 10,000ft up. but it is around 760 at sea level yea. the mach number is related to all kinds of complex bits of aerodynamics which pilots of things like airliners need to be well aware of since all kinds of weird stuff happens as you cross into the higher atmosphere - don't want to stall in one of them

That was a crock... the Mig didn't even try. If it had accellerated prior to reaching the jet car, the car would have looked lame in comparison.

Very true but i bet the F-22 can fly longer going Mach 1.25 than the SU-37 can ;) also i believe Russia has maybe like 4 SU-37s? You have to have money to pay pilots and maintain them :)

True.. The Mig and Jet car is not a fair race. The Mig can win even at ground level (by about 400 mph), but it's for the spectators really... However, I think the Jet Car and an Extra 300 is a more fair race.... check it out in one of my videos.... on YouTube - D9dPBDcgssU

Jet's do not reach thier top speeds until they are at high altitudes. Plus the top speed what dragracing is all about, its how quickly you can accelerate.

They talked about running jet dragsters as a separate class at national events and even running jet dragsters in the top fuel class in IHRA back when they were lucky to get 8 competitive top fuel cars.

I've seenthe dragster personally and was amazed how fast he runs at the airshow I went to in Belle Chasse, LA. When the announcer said he ran over 400 mph, I said NO FUCKIN' WAY the plane he ran against would catch him!
