  • lol no one has posted anything good to say about this since Obama has been in office- his vision of things- seeing America broke

  • How's that Hope and Change workin out now Jack?

  • I too, as an author, agree with Tobias.

Vision and imagination, communicated well, are the keys to change and future leadership. Leadership, unlike mere management, is the life blood of progress.

  • a hemingway of our time

  • I think I enjoy hearing Tobias Wolff speak and read his work aloud more than I enjoy reading him. He is a remarkable writer and a remarkable person.

  • In my VCE literature class this year, we studied Tobias Wolff's This Boys Life. It is a stunning multi-layered book which highlights Wolff's amazing ability to write and to make you relate to his ideal selves. Its amazing how he talks the same way he writes :)

  • As if The Wire wasn't a political reply. C'mon. He ONLY speaks in platitudes.

  • I don't know how much I agree that The Wire is a political reply The Wire is, with its weekly sex and violence, but of course he speaks in platitudes-- so does every politician ever. The real problem is that since The Wire is actually the best show on television, Barack Obama, as an intelligent person, would say The Wire no matter what, so it's simply a matter of deciphering whether HE in particular meant it politically or not. Probably both. So what?

  • Look more closely at Tobias Wolff's commentary regarding the choice. My point is there, really.

  • I did listen closely the first time, but thanks. The only sketchy thing he says is that Barack has "been on those streets," which is true depending on how he meant it, but everything else is accurate and the same exact problem I mentioned before remains:

The Wire IS the best show on television, and what it shows us IS what Tobias Wolff mentions here, so whether or not Obama and Wolff are genuine, the former's answer and the latter's praise here would be the same.

  • What a great way to speak of Barack's eloquence! What a swell way to say, I like this guy.

    Roy

  • Tobias Wolff is a genius! I am in total awe of him!:)

  • Tobias Wolff should run for my favorite writer.
