i had a similar idea for holding a world speed record, use a pulsejet inside a dragster and then ignite 2 g80 model rocket motors on the side of the car to get it to maximum speed. this just might work!

Man that things seems to run pretty well. I've always wanted to build a jet rc. Surely if the landspeed record is held by a jet car, with improvements to current scale jet engines, an electric-beating jet rc is in the future. (since electrics have gearing and heat to worry about, it only seems logical to think jets could beat them)

It's not real quick off the start line like a real jet, but top speed is achieved after ~350meters.

Why..?? It's there as a precaution, you never know when something will possibly happen or go wrong. The car carries 2 liters of jet fuel so it's better to be safe than sorry.

It's a test, very first run with engine. It doesn't launch fast but has very fast top speed. The wheels are not driven.

@441meatloaf he means there is no drive train attached to any wheels, they all spin freely. The only force that moves the car is the thrust coming off the jet turbine, like a real jet plane.

What keeps it from rolling while the engine is running? Is there a breaking system or does it just not produce a lot of thrust at idle speed?

Yes, it has servo operated twin disk brakes on the rear wheels only. It will roll @ idle if the brakes are not applied.

It has been clocked at a shade over 146mph at my loacal drag strip, I haven't been able to back that up with a second run at that speed or better as yet. It has done several runs in the 120-130mph range though.

The propane is used to start the engine, once the ECU sees a certain temperature has been reached in the exhaust it switches over to Jet-A1 and I can turn off and disconnect the propane.
