I joined in 1999 and it was the best decision I ever made. It paid 100% for college, gave me a TS/SCI clearance, and more than anything allowed me to serve my country and 6 years of great memories. To anyone out there go for it! You will not regret it and it will set you up for nothing but success

@flybyboy77 basically you load and unload the aircrafts. Monitor things going on the aircraft to make sure it is authorized, including items and people. I know a couple of people who do this, and they LOVE it. :)
2T2 huh... That was my career field when I was in awhile back. I ended up in PAX and the job itself was alright but the poeple...UGH! No one liked it there (McGuire) and no matter how much you tried to get along with people they still sometimes were difficult for no reason. Especially some of the officers but nayways KEEP YOUR NOSE CLEAN and get that 5 level out of the way. I ended up getting jerked around while there but did have some good experiences in Honor Guard and such.

@gandana35 I wouldn't say it's EASIER, but the practice test only gives you a few questions from eac h section, which means missing one on the practice asvab is a larger percentige of your final score that if you miss one on the actually asvab. Keep in mind you need a 50 to make it into the Air Force.
@ExtraPimpSlap12345 It's not bad, I got a 69 and didn't study anything but a little brushup on math. I almost went back to take it, but I qualified for all the jobs I was interested in with that score, so I didn't bother. Get the book ASVAB for Dummies---I've heard it's great for studying.

well if u go reserve u shuld b good active duty blows. meps is easy its just a physical... and bout the worst 2 days no wayyyyyy being treated like a kid when ur in basic and tech school is the worst. just make sure u get a good job dont put security forces ne where down on that. and bout being in shape trust me they will make u run they always got on females when they run.. its easy. good luck with ur decision and dont let them talk u into 6 years go 4 4 then u can reenlist

@PixieDollable Reserves is a 6 year contract I signed mines on the 1st of October. I leave for BMT on March 8 2011 unless someone drops and I can get in sooner. If you haven't done your ASVAB yet get the "ASVAB FOR DUMMIES" and study your butt off. The higher you score the better bonus and job you get. I plan on getting a degree while in the reserves. Let me know if you have any questions.

@PixieDollable I'm a reservist. Waiting on the short notice list as well. I may go active duty down the line but I need to see all my options. Ultimately I want to fly which is why I'm going to get my degree and not to mention the schooling will be paid for. As of right now I'm going in for Aerospace Maintenance and will be at Travis after bmt. I'm gonna add you to my friends list since we're pretty much on the same page.

I served 10 years in the Air Force as a intel analyst. I had a great time. I just want to say that someone as young and cute as you really need to watch out for the guys when you hit tech school. That is not line, that is serious advice.
On a side note, I highly recommend you go officer. You will regret it if you don't.
@Jiggerjinn I've REALLY considered going in as an officer, but I'm not sure I want that responsability right now. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I decided to, couldn't I apply to become an officer later--or does it not work like that?

@PixieDollable You can become an officer later *IF* there is a slot available, and even then you're competing with the X many other enlisted personnel for the whatever available slots are available at the time. If you can get recruited as an officer, then it will be one less thing to mess with.
I have a buddy who was trying to do the same thing, he had a masters, but it was a no go.

how did you decide between the reserves and active duty?

@1hvn I like teaching music (private lessons), but REALLY want to do something in the military. I have a couple sibling in the Marine Reserves, and they like it. I feel like it's a good way to do something for my country, without it taking over my civilian life :)

well if u go reserve u shuld b good active duty blows. meps is easy its just a physical... and bout the worst 2 days no wayyyyyy being treated like a kid when ur in basic and tech school is the worst. just make sure u get a good job dont put security forces ne where down on that. and bout being in shape trust me they will make u run they always got on females when they run.. its easy. good luck with ur decision and dont let them talk u into 6 years go 4 4 then u can reenlist

@Spygate32 can't go 4 years as a reservist, can you? Or is it 4 years "active reserves" and 4 years "inactive"?

@PixieDollable im not a 100 percent sure cuz im active duty i wish i was guard though.. its pry alot better cuz u only deal with bullshit 2 weeks out of the year ha. id find out from ur recruiter he would know and i dont see you couldnt do that its still 8 years total

@PixieDollable Reserves is a 6 year contract I signed mines on the 1st of October. I leave for BMT on March 8 2011 unless someone drops and I can get in sooner. If you haven't done your ASVAB yet get the "ASVAB FOR DUMMIES" and study your butt off. The higher you score the better bonus and job you get. I plan on getting a degree while in the reserves. @enigmafirst Thank you! I took my ASBAV and have gone to MEPs already. I have a job interview for public affairs and if I get it, I'm in :D I'm hoping to get into BMT fairly soon . As of right now Tech School is filled for the year so I'll have to go on a short notice list and HOPE someone drops. We'll see! Thank for the info....are you a reservist?

@PixieDollable I'm a reservist. Waiting on the short notice list as well. I may go active duty down the line but I need to see all my options. Ultimately I want to fly which is why I'm going to get my degree and not to mention the schooling will be paid for. As of right now I'm going in for Aerospace Maintenance and will be at Travis after bmt. I'm gonna add you to my friends list since we're pretty much on the same page.

@enigmafirst Good idea! I'm so glad I have my degree already--higher rank and more pay. I got the job I wanted, I will be in the public affairs dep. for photography/writing/newsreporting. I'm excited! I'm supposed to swear in the next few days, but I haven't heard from my recruter :/ Keep me posted!

I served 10 years in the Air Force as a intel analyst. I had a great time. I just want to say that someone as young and cute as you really need to watch out for the guys when you hit tech school. That is not line, that is serious advice.
On a side note, I highly recommend you go officer. You will regret it if you don't.

@Jiggerjinn I've REALLY considered going in as an officer, but I'm not sure I want that responsability right now. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I decided to, couldn't I apply to become an officer later--or does it not work like that?
Also, thanks for the advice, and complement :) I'm already preparing myself--I have a sister in the service and I know what she has had to put up with!

@PixieDollable You can become an officer later *IF* there is a slot available, and even then you're competing with the X many other enlisted personnel for the whatever available slots are available at the time. If you can get recruited as an officer, then it will be one less thing to mess with.
I have a buddy who was trying to do the same thing, he had a masters, but it was a no go.

meps sux lol be prepared to feel lost lol its ez tho ummm a couple things i learned dont use a tooth paste with mouth wash cuz ull get poped on the breath test dont use mouth wash if u eat there dont eat alot of protein or sugars witch u shouldnt have a problem cuz ur a veggie girl ummm but really dont be nervous its really not that bad always say NO TO EVERYTHING they wont find out their full of shit unless u hav a criminal background make sure u hav an envelope ur recruiter gives u
