  • God Bless America

  • Yeah ....The music for the great military march

  • We as members of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Theater Organ Society are so proud of our local talent. Organists Bob Castle and Jim Calm. And the 101st Army Band. The sound is unimaginably richer and inspiring in the Paramount theater in which this Wurlitzer was originally installed.

  • I agree with you, in the parts where its supposed to be upbeat, it is not...not the best rendition i've ever heard!!!

  • do people in the army band have to go to the field???

  • @jjjazzycraig Im not sure about america, but in the UK military Musicians have to serve as Field medics.

  • I wasn't that impressed. The director seemed kinda light and not intense enough and the band didn't sound very enthusiastic for most of the song.

  • I agree.

  • @RJY4356...I just blame this on the poor audio quality of this video.

  • hmm.......

the wurlitzer's cool, first time I heard, I thought there was a hidden string section behind the curtain.......

  • Very very nice. Great rendition of an all time favourite

  • who cares about the trumpets the 101st Band are great. Well done to each and every one of them.

  • Are any of you people bitching about the flatness of the trumpets brass players? I'm guessing not.

  • i'm pretty sure its just he mic placement is why you cant hear everything that good

  • It was decent but yeah the trumpets were very flat. if that was a VBODA festival I would give that a 2 (excillent)

  • A lovely rendition. This piece is one that can be played more than one way according to the situation or theme. I learned years ago that when played slowly (as at a funeral or memorial), it is as moving and inspirational as when played more as a march. Whether you prefer it fast or slow is a personal choice, but as with all hymns, it's played according to the occasion. But either way, it remains one of the most moving pieces of music ever written.

  • I couldn't agree with you more, "NEMESES24"!

  • i am the same person.. baritone player.. take out organ!! also i ment that we r gonna play wayyyyyy faster!! U r the army 4 crying out loud!! i give it a c+!! ^^ remember!! FASTER!! I like the ending thats 4 sure!!^^

  • even though u r the army no offense but faster plz... i am in middle school and r gonna play way faster than that. u r the army play faster!!!!!! good brass though. need more brass!!! i play the baritone..in video cannot hear them!!!

  • Yeah you are suppose to play faster normaly. Only when you are in a state of mourning do you play this song slowly.

  • Usually, the army plays this only at funerals (not always though).

If you read the info about the video, you will see it *is* an army band:

"The 101st Army Band with the twin consoles of the Mighty Wurlitzer theatre organ in Denver's Paramount Theatre."

  • thats actually very very wrong

  • guys that sucked... the soing must be faster... giving the sort of marching kind of beat... this is for a funeral. but i like the trumpets... and the bass part was good... the woodwind sucked... it sounded terrible.. consider only brass for this song.. cause i know what im talking bout... good job guys.. great effort.
  • shut up. we are just playing how they told us to. it's for a funeral for crying out loud

  • I love big tubas!

  • I give this about a c plus for effort...it is way too slow and just not all that thrilling or stirring as Peter J. Wilhowski meant it to be when he wrote this version.
