granted, youtube is not a democracy, but they operate their business in a country that is a democracy and as such, to supress free speech is antithetical to a democratic state. just because they are a private company, does not give them the right to flaut the nation's laws. i'll concede that they have a right to make certain business decisions, but there are better ways for them to do it. a ratings system or age restrictions would work just as well.

I am confussed on what is going on? so hummm Google is trying to band this site or remove some stuff or videos that have cussing in it? I am not sure on the whole thing but is that right? well if I remember did the people that created Youtube sold there rights to google? right so google has all the rights to youtube, so is it not far to say that they have every right to do what they please on this site because they own it? now, I am just saying but I am confussed on what is going on.

For years Grandma is inviting her grandchild to come on every day for lunch. Grandma is paying for all the ingredients coz she loves to cook for her grandchild. Then suddenly grandma is forbidding to swear during lunch and the grandchild gets angry and as protest he don't want to come the next three days ... not eating the free meals ... how would the grandma react?
Would she allow swearing again?

People complain because when they're swearing or using some too much profanity then the video might get deleted from the most discussed list or maybe removed from the server ... We all know children with 13+ are allowed to register at the website.

First off I absolutely love your banner! Secondly I do agree...I'm american and I get the freedom of speach part. However if your viewer base depends on how many swear words or exposed you are..is it really a big loss if you get your nose out of joint and storm off? I think not. I totally agree with you. Thank you Tim, that made me smile. I see the blackout failed and if not for the fact the my laptop was in for repair, I'd have made sure to be on YouTube the entire time - watching and commenting. i can agree that there are certainly limits to all rights, constitutionally gtd or otherwise. oliver wendall holmes when he was on the supreme court for instance argued that one could not enter a public theater and scream the word fire. Also, language that is used to insight violence is not a protected right. and when two rights, your right to privacy and my right of free speech, collide a balance must be found to protect both parties. and that is what i'm talking about. balance.

granted, youtube is not a democracy, but they operate their business in a country that is a democracy and as such, to supress free speech is antithetical to a democratic state. just because they are a private company, does not give them the right to flaut the nation's laws. i'll concede that they have a right to make certain business decisions, but there are better ways for them to do it. a ratings system or age restrictions would work just as well.

i agree, they do own the channel, and as such, have a right to establish certain guidelines. but video blogging is not private corporate communication. and i think manipulating viewership dances dangerously close to censorship. i think there is a more fair way to achieve their goal of creating a space that is good for everyone without resorting to censorship.

YT is a business, centered around money. The could not care less about what people think, or making a blackout. The future of the site, such as MGA putting full length movies up, etc, is all paving the way for labels. Not censorship, but labels, such as G, PG, R, etc. They are looking for the money futures, thus starting now to set limits in order to categorize in the future.
