She's not saying that people are going to consciously base their decision on race, but rather, racist or not, people will have some small, subconscious resistance to voting for a black president since, as far as I can tell, there has never been a black president outside of Africa. I never thought I would see the day when conservative America would prefer a Black Man for President before any woman. The real issue of this election was sexism not racism. The good ole boys would prefer a black MAN if the only other choice was a woman. We still have so far to go. So many address the whites who won't vote black while forgetting about blacks who are voting for the first time because of a legitimate black candidate, aren't they just as racist?

I have come to the conclusion that almost everyone who supports Obama does so due to his race. Face it, he has not had enough accomplishments of note in order to determine this level of fervent support. In fact, everyone I know personally cannot define him except in terms of how it would look to the rest of the world if we elected this candidate. They never mention issues, character, leadership. All they say is - wouldn't it look awesome if we elected him.

What are you talking about? I support Obama, but it's because he's a Democratic nominee and a liberal senator. What does this have to do with him being black and white? I'm glad he lives abroad, understands grass roots organizing, will protect civil liberties and will get America's standing in the world back up. That's why I support him. Not cuz his daddy is from Kenya or whatever. I wish he had Greek/Russian roots like me, but whatever, as long as he's a lib & a Dem it's all good :)

Wow I feel sorry for you. You must be really jaded to think most people are voting for Obama because he's black. Most who would have voted for Clinton are now voting for Obama. And those democrats who disagreed with some of Clinton's policies and chose Obama from the beginning are of course voting for him. Yet you think these combined voters are voting because of his race, and not the what he has stated over and over again what he stands for?

LOL Now you're arguing with emotion instead of clear truth. "We" meaning about 50% of voters elected Bush in 2000 and 2004. And about 48% of voters (who aren't part of that "We") wanted someone *other* than Bush. In 2004 Gore actually won the popular vote, meaning technically more people wanted him to be president than Bush. These are just the facts.
Now on a emotional level I think evangelicals are crazy and it seems Bush has relied on them to win both elections. McCain now needs them as well.

In the past, Blacks were victimized when White defined them not as fellow citizens, but by color. Today, Blacks are victimized by their own choice to define themselves, not as another citizen, but by color. Such judgments are the product of ignorance and promote intolerance, no matter what degree the speaker holds.
