I don't think this ad is baloney, listen to the claim that the ad is making. It is NOT saying that you WILL loose weight while breastfeeding, it only says that breastfeeding burns UP TO 500 calories a day.
I think they're just making a kind of parody of a weight loss plan, and not really touting breastfeeding as a sure way to lose weight. I think the real idea is that the calories burned is another good reason to breast feed.
I think it's really interesting that breastfeeding burns calories.
@shevaag its not a lie just because it didnt work for you. ive been breastfeeding for 6.5 months and im 16 lbs lighter than i was before i got pregnant. i dont diet, i eat like a horse, and the only exercise i get is carrying my baby around.
@guzelak88 The benefits of breastfeeding extent for up to 5 years until the child has a fully matured immune system. The averge age for coming off the breast in the non western world is 4 1/2 years. Paediatricians can find NO harmful emotional effetcs on the child WHATSOEVER, only benefits. The only reason YOU think the child would get a 'complex' its YOU that sexualises breasts.
50 years ago, it was poor and low-income women who breasfed, while wealthy women went with formula. Now, it's the other way around and much of that is due to education. That, and programs like WIC provide free formula to low-income and poor women. Before you start bashing WIC, know that not all women can breastfeed and this program is needed.
Whatever promotes breastfeeding is fine with me and working on women's vanities might just be the answer!.
What's sad is that WIC and NYS have to put up ads like this for American's to WANT to nurse their babies. It's too sensible to say it's better for the baby and saves money. They must appeal to the moms desires rather than the babies needs.
this is neither about the benefits of breast feeding or the lure of losing weight. The state is broke and looking for ways to cut back. The commercial was sponsored by WIC
This a really cheap way to promote breastfeeding. Not all mothers lose weight while breastfeeding and it would be a shame for some to stop because they didn't lose the weight fast enough. I urge you to change your way of thinking in the promotion of breastfeeding.
Yes, let's play on women's body image insecurities.

500 calories is not like, nor equivalent, to 2 hours of aerobic exercise.
