  • do you have a deviant art account?

  • That is a beautiful picture:)

  • that is so fantastic, I try to draw, but failing that, I at least love to color with Copic Pens they are the best markers I have ever used...so much fun,

  • Why that is amazing ^^ I love your technique, and specially how you made the frames cB

My dream is to be a mangaka in Japan, I have my own manga and stuff, and I loved to learn a bit from this since I'm still noob-ish ^^~

Do you have a deviantart account? :3

  • do you have a deviantart

  • I love copics because you can pretty much just use one marker to do all sorts of shading, and the refills are like 60 dollars worth of markers just for 5-6 bucks o:

  • @Ambidextrous224 You can use Strathmore Marker Paper. It's SUPER thin though. It doesn't bleed at all for me. You just have to have something underneath the paper your coloring on. If you don't then the marker will go through to the next page.

  • just curious, since copic markers are so wet, do they smudge a lot? i mean i try not to drag my hand when i draw, but i tend to anywho, so i was just wondering if they smear and smudge. also do they dry quickly? or does it take several minutes to dry?

  • @shadowcatluvver22 They've never smudged for me, even though I have very limited experience with them. They dry very quickly, which makes it hard to color evenly, but you get the hang of it if you keep trying.

  • X____x you are amazing..

  • This made my day.

  • Woah a lefthander! Just like me xDD

  • I'm just getting into copic markers. Im a scrapper. I've been seeing some pretty pics with the copic markers. N would love to do that myself. Your videos are very helpful. Thank u so much for posting them.

  • What lavender colors did you use to shade?

  • are these marker better than prosmacolor markers

  • I heard you talk about "thin" paper in your last video, what kind of paper do you use?

Is strathmore good for copic markers? I have strathmore sketch books. Love you vids btw ^^ <3

  • I really, really like this.

    :)

  • your are very talented^.^ I love your wokrs!

  • i love it! hmm what color you use for the wood?

  • whoa ur a lefty!

  • love the illustration! what brand of paper would you recommend?

  • Lovely image !

  • What is the exact type of paper you use?

Beautiful work by the way :) !

  • Wow! This is the best copic video I have seen so far. Amazing. Beautiful work.

  • wow ^^ i love your technique, the whole thing was enlightening. i mean i ive never used copic marker before but ever since i was little i hated markers. always leaving behing ink marks on the secnond page and whatnot . lol needless to say i had a grudge against them.

um question though. how did you color the smaller detail without going out of the lines, even with the smaller brush? just super concentration or something?

  • @JOKERmutt Thanks! Yeah, I guess I just try hard not to go over the lines. It's not easy; sometimes I do go over and you just can't see it.

  • @amyreederhadley lol, i dont draw much on paper but when i do, going over the lines are very annyoing at times. thank you for answering. =)

  • you work so fast, when I shade I have to keep putting blender coats down to get that blended feel :(

  • @HippoKissez I've tried the blenders but they seem counterproductive, like they leave watermarks and stuff.

Have you tried color copy paper? That's why I use it--it's the least streaky.

  • @amyreederhadley don't think I have, I just bought so bristol smooth paper to try, I'll try that color copy paper some time. The blender does leave water marks to and then I'm like taking forever to get it out @_@

  • Love your artwork. Your shading is amazing! TFS!

    ~Sharon

  • Wow! ^^ Nice!

  • i wish i had copics :(

  • amazing! you're very skilled!

thanks for showing and explaining all this to us :)

i'm just a copic beginner and this helps me a lot =)

  • What paper are u using? Regular printer paper? or special paper for Copic markers? YOu are really good btw!

  • wow!! YOUR HANDS MOVE FAST!! jk. This is the first movis ive seen of yours... very nice work. Did you do the linework yourself also?? In your opinion, do copics surpass prismacolors as far as ink and nib qualities?

  • Thanks, and yeah, the linework's mine. I haven't tried prismacolors, but I know they're drier and I like the wetness of Copics.

  • wooooow thats magic :0

  • good luck.

  • Bravo

  • I really like your videos. You are very talented and have a lot of great advice. Thank you for sharing! <3

  • Wow this goes against everything my art teacher told us: bright colors bring out a picture, always use the same color to shade, etc.

And something I found funny: "Turning a mistake into a....non..mistake.:"

  • Lol each to their own there isnt a right way to do stuff,

    example....

WE both go gym and train the exact same way, same weights etc.. BUT! that doesnt mean we will both develop at the same rate etc...

SOOOO do what generally works for you....

Wht i sugest you do is learn as much technique as possible and use those techniques in your own work and through trial and eror you will settle to your own style.

  • Amy, you are soo talented!

hope your wrist is better so you can keep up the amazing artwork,

    i love your videos <3

  • OMG YES! I went to your website~ You like Fifth Element~ That makes me so happy XD

    Not a lot of people know about it, and I find most that do hate it ; - ;

  • Calgary Expo? Do you live in Calgary?

I'd really like to know how proffessionals always have amazing backgrounds (even as a line art) with no visable mistakes...

And how old are you? O.o you already have your own Manga!

  • how much do the copic makers cost? cuz i really need it... ^^"

  • Copics are expensive - if you're not a person with millions of cash to spend freely .

I just ordered a 36 Copic Ciao Set for nearly 90€ (cant tell you how much they cost in Dollar/other currencies) and a single pen is around 4€ at the shop I ordered! HTH (if not , PM me or whatever)

Amy , your Pictures really ROCK!

I think your videos will help me , so thank you very much for sharing your knowledge ! ♥

  • I bought a 72 pack for roughly 650. D:

A marker in here ish (Canada) is about 9 a marker. ;_; Boohoohoo. But thy're worth it. x10000

  • OMG Love the dress! Reds my favorite color. And I have to say your really good at doing texture. Nice Job! ^_^

  • Fab

  • Ijust found your two Copic Marker videos and loved them. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this and sharing your knowledge so generously. I really appreciate it!

  • Thanks for the demo. That's excellent. I love how you told which colors you were using too! Awesome picture too.

  • what type of paper is color copy paper?

  • it's printer paper, or multi-purpose paper; copy paper is made for use in a copier, but it's all basically the same thing.

  • This is a wonderful demo but I was wondering if you could perhaps do a shading tutorial because you are so phenomenal at it. I have trouble with shading and it would really help me. Thank you and I hope your wrist is better!

  • is colour copy paper printer paper?

  • Fabulous colouring, Amy! Thanks so much for sharing your talent and expertise with the world!!

  • Yes, because working for Vertigo is nowhere? Not only is it rare that a mostly manga style artist will make it creating a western series, but she did a great job doing so. I have always had a dislike for anime and manga style art, since none seemed to truly have their own feel to them, but Amy really changed this belief for me. Well, that's not entirely true. I still don't like anime and manga, but I love Amy's work.

I'll be looking into anything you do in the future, you have my attention.

  • Shut up. I dint even know she was working for Vertigo. Its nice 2 know that she's in something.

  • actually, if you explore the anime and manga genres more [which you won't be inclined to do if you don't like them XD] you'll find that each artist definitely has their own feel. compare the mangas death note and fullmetal alchemist. they are undeniably very different in style.

yeah, there's definitely personal twist and feeling very well incorporated into the genres, but it's hard to tell from an "outsider" stance. x]

  • I enjoyed watching Comic Marker Demo and was surprised when watching Comic Marker Demo 2 that ChevyJakson noted you were left handed. I hadn't noticed. No wonder it looked so normal and natural to me. Wow, someone else uses the right part of their brain besides me!! woo hoo!!

    Appreciativly, Left handed......CharDrty

  • shhhh

  • I just entered the world of Copic Sketch markers & discovered your video while searching for tuts. I'm so glad I did! You amaze me! Wow! Your shading is awesome to watch. Incredible!

Thank you so much for sharing your talents! Can't wait to see more.

    Sharron

  • YOU ARE LEFT HANDED!! I was wondering why I was so bugged by watching you draw lol

    Excellent work nonetheless!

  • why is it women always seem to be the best artist?

i'm an artist and this is startig to worry me as i'm male.

will i ever reach this level of skill?

  • thats nonsense haha,

men and women are both equal in the level of skill. it just depends on how long youve been doing what you do. after a few years, you start picking things up, and getting some advice.

my art teacher can draw a bad ass space marine thing, that he just pulls out of his ass and draws it perfectly in 10 minutes. but it took him 30 years to learn how to do that.

    you'll get there

  • he pulled a space marine out of his ass?

  • expression for; he made it up as he was going, he didnt have any plans for what he was going to draw, he just...well, drew

  • wow you must really think i'm slow.

i was just playing, i knew what you meant.

  • i figured

  • Funny, as a female I always thought men were so much better when it came to certain things in art.

As I opened my eyes I just noticed it all relies on skill and practice alone.

    Don't worry.

  • check out deviant art, i swear to you most of the unbelievable talented are women.

  • I guess its true that there are more females then males. I just htink that women are more dedicated to it then men (in SOME cases)

  • actually its that more women then men decide to do art alot more then a man would do. men would do sports and other such related things well more woman would choose art. I am not saying that no men do are and no woman do sports it just more likely that those would happen.

  • Incredible, really instructif for all aspiring artist.

  • ANOTHER AMY MASTERPIECE!!!

Q: Amy, can you do a face color and shading video sometime?

  • this is truly amazing! I got copics when i was going to college at the minneapolis college of art and design but i could never fully get the hang of them.. thanks for your post!

  • You are amazing at drawing and colouring! I can't colour anything- every time i put any colour on, it ruins the whole thing. But you have inspired me to start practicing!

    Well done! xD

  • When you say color copy paper... Do you mean computer-print paper? Like the regular paper you put through your printer? I was just wondering if that would work

  • ColorCopy is a paper type manufactured by Mondi. It comes in various weights and is nothing like regular printer paper...

    Excellent video!

  • It's printer or copy paper for laser printers or copiers, a little smoother and sturdier than inkjet printer paper. Many brands carry it; I prefer Hammermill.

  • I think that this is amazing. I feel like useing some of my copic markers to color now. XDD and I already have a fineliner thing fir the lineart...I'll do a doodle just to check it out. Thanks for the info! :)

BTW--I just noticed you're left handed. XDD

  • great oo

i don't know if I got the wrong paper for the copics... =(

    It's really thin...

  • You mean Copic brand paper for their markers? I don't like it myself. I like color copy paper, which you can get at any office supply store.

  • thanks you so much for posting this! It really helped me alot, as I got my first set of copics for christmas~~~ (colored pencils, as amazing as they are, are a thing of the past!) That was really amazing!

  • My new favorite artist! ^^_ she's a leftie! amazing!

  • When you were starting with Copic markers... how did you know what to buy? I mean what kind of colors you wanted.

  • I´ve got aa question:

So i have a copic marker but it is very hard (you understand?)

Is there a difference between the markers?

    I´ve got copic .too

  • There are 4 different kind of markers; Copic Marker, Copic Sketch, Copic Ciao and Copic Wide. I think what you have is a basic Copic marker, if the nib is hard. Sketch and Ciao have the soft brush nib. If I remember correctly you can buy new nibs for Copic Markers so if you don't like the hard one you can change it. :)

  • Thank you so much for this video. My friends and I want to get some copic markers and we need to learn how to use them. This video helps so much. Thank you for putting it up and helping us out! Thanks again and keep making more videos. I really enjoy wathching them!

  • How long did it take to draw and color it ?

  • these are really quite helpful. thank you for making these...

  • how long does it take you to finish a page? I want to create a manga when i'm older but it seems really daunting doing it by myself =S

  • I think its awesome that you're left handed

  • That's amazing...wow!!!!!!!!

  • do you have a deviantart page?

  • Yup! My username is tentopet.

  • good job ;)

could u just tell me how u "fix" the camera to shoot your videos?please

ill show you my video then!

  • I tied it to my desk lamp!

  • I would love to see even a few moments of real time coloring rather than so much speed coloring (if thats the right term).

  • How many copics do you have? Oo

  • Wow, GREAT work! Geez, you're going to have me getting all sorts of art supplies ha ha ha! My dad already bought me a Wacom, I'll have to put these on my wish list too! I do love markers : )

  • Thank you so much. I started drawing about four years ago as an alternative to playing music. I feel in love with it and now I want to start using colors. I saw a colored illustration and I knew that I wanted to learn about it. This is the only detailed copic marker demonstration I've found. So, thank you.

If you could go back in time and whisper some advice into your own ear what would it be? I can make good use of your advice.

    Thanks again. Greg

  • how much are those markers

  • Expensive--$7-9 per marker.

  • .OoO.

DO YOU HAVE AN ART BOOK I CAN BUY?!

Lol. You made me gasp when I saw the finished picture. Maaaaa you're marker art makes me want to actually sit down and get back into coloring with markers. I always had so much fun with markers.

Must go buy more copics. :D Maybe I'll go blow one of my checks on some copic markers at the end of the month. tee hee

  • I have comics! No artbooks, though.

  • Wow, this is great. I've never been very good at markers, but I think that seeing them in action really helped me get a hold on how to use them. Your art is very amazing!

  • Wiii!!!

Great tutorial, those markers seem to work very good.

    Please make more videos!!

    Bye!

  • wow. thanks for the video. I just got my markers and you've helped me out with them. can't wait for new stuff. You draw so amazing!

  • Thanks for the video! I just ordered my first copic sketches and am anxiously awaiting them in the mail. So far I only ordered the basic 12 pack plus about 20 colors I picked individually. Did you start with a complete set or build your collection over time? Can you reccomend a "must have" color list.

  • Your DA page and your videos definitely deserve more attention, this one was very helpful. Thanks for giving yourself the time to share your advice.

  • DA page?! sory, mind giving me a link? ^ ^;;;

  • can you use normal paper with them?

  • You can, but it has alot of downsides. First of, normal paper will suck out more ink than the special copics paper, and with copics paper, its easier to blend colours (and since the ink dries really fast on normal paper, its impossible on that). You can buy this special paper in different sizes, so if you don't want to spend to much on it you could always try A4 first before going on to A3 (A4 is also easier to start with - less space to fill)!!

  • yaaay ^^

  • I want copics now. Since I now know how I might go about using them XD

...Wrist problems? Like CTS or Tendinitis? Or like... a broken wrist type issue..?

I have CTS, it sucks, I remember I started crying once because I was trying to draw and it just hurt so bad... hah...

  • Where can you buy copic markers?

  • online or in a art store >.>

  • any legit art shop

  • What brand of color copy paper? :)

  • woow... cool @_@

By the way, how much copics you own and how much it costs?

  • Oh woooow

    real sense * _ *

    the colors are really cool

I wish I can also times as well = (

aii .. I am looking forward if there is more of you comes n_n

  • I found this video really helpful. I have copic markers and I'm all over the place with them. Definitely learned a few tricks and tips in this video. Lovely work, I favorited the saloon girl on Deviant art. I simply love it! I love her dress (I want a dress like that). And I'm really glad you put a peacock feather in her hair (I also love those). :]

  • Do you wear a glove so it doesn't smear?

  • Nope! It's for wrist support.

  • wow you are a copic marker genious! really good art work there. i dont think ive seen/met any artist who uses there left hand so good job ^^ keep up the good work!

  • Thanks Amy. I'm playing around with the art markers in Painter X. Your tutorial is a big help at wrapping my mind around how markers work. They're so different from the tools I'm accustom to. Take care in Alberta. Bye!

  • Absolutely wonderful. I love you're work, and I hope your wrist starts to feel better. o_o

  • beautiful! i just wish the video was a little better quality. I second the tutorial on drawing! :D thanks!

  • i hope your wrist gets better soon! that video was amazing!

    thank you for sharing!

p.s. could you do a tutorial on drawing? characters and scenery and background? you're drawings are so amazing!

    carmen

    xox

  • Very good tutorial!!!Thank you very much!

can I ask you that kind of copic paper you use? ( the specific name)

  • I like how you commentate.

It makes this video much more helpful than some videos where they don't.

  • Such a craftmanship(craftwomanship?). Thanks for the wonderful walkthrough!

  • Awesome! Copics are very hard to get in to, and you're very awesome at them. :) Hey, i just noticed you're left handed! Awesome, there aren't enoug left-handed people in the world. We're awesome like that. XD

  • Did you say you were colouring a printout of your linework? What did you use to transfer the lines to the colour copy paper?

  • no, this isn't a printout; it's over the original inks, which i did with copic multiliners directly on the paper. printouts from a laser printer generally bleed badly with markers; your best bet is to use a photocopy since toner doesn't smear, but the resolution won't be as good. that's why i color over the originals most of the time--plus, i normally do these for auctions and they like the pieces to be completely original.

  • Yay! I just got these thing and wish to learn. :)

  • I hope your wrist gets better! ^-^ I can't wait to read Fool's Gold Three! x3
