  • What is everyone's interpretation of this song? The way I understand it is there is a man trapped in a coma who can hear everyone around him talking about pulling his life support to let him die. I love this song because that interpretation is so heart wrenching.

  • Haven't you noticed how In Rainbows is like the BEST TRACK IN TH WORLD . It gives me comfort there are no words for this track

  • To be completely honest I haven't gotten around to listening to the other Radiohead albums (which I plan on doing when I have more time) but this was the first song I've ever heard by Radiohead, and I have so much to thank because of it. Seriously. It opened so many doors for me as to the potential bands and musicians have in their lives. Especially Radiohead, because I truly feel like they redefined Alternative Rock. They're not only musical geniuses, but they're dreamers, too. Thank you.

    8. Pablo Honey

  • I really, really can't even make a list. This song epitomizes Radiohead for me, and my inability to pick favorites among the albums. It feels like I have a new favorite every week, depending on my mood. Leading up to Halloween was Hail to the Thief. Then King of Limbs, Kid A/Amnesiac, now In Rainbows. Each album occupies a sort of hallowed space in my mind, each with its own psychological and emotional character. I even like Pablo Honey (though I certainly listen to it the least).

  • kisses to this song xxxxxx

  • i love you but enough is enough

  • is it pronounced 'fowst'?

  • @GeoMcEvan

    yup

  • @L0veepanicc thank god for that. I went around calling Adele 'Ad-e-lay' for 3 months and noone told me :(

  • we thoughtyouhaditinyoubutnot

  • goosebumps

  • this album just sounds like the natural evolution of OK computer. If this had come along in 2000 instead of kid A i'd have said goodbye to the rest of music and just listened to these two albums for several years

  • wakey wakey rise and shine...

  • For years I couldn't stand Radiohead

    This song changed me

  • I think this is called in rainbows because the imagery of the album is so dreamy adn supernatural. Would you not agree with me, just saying.

  • beautifull song radiohead ftw

  • this song is absolutely amazing!!! :)

  • This song is so beautiful. I have a hard time believing there are people who don't like it.

  • Those 26 people must of been deaf.

  • This is so beautiful... So painfully beautiful...

  • Thumbs up if you think this sounds like a beatles song.

  • Radiohead's Blackbird.

  • @Kinovy You speak the truth

  • Very complicated musical arrangement and the lyrics so compact with meaning. One of Tadiohead's finest!

  • @spongebobnik Tadio, hahaha! Thanks for the nice smile.

  • @plou0018 Sorry, and thanks for being kind instead of ugly like some other postings. Actually, I am visually impaired and have trouble using the computer. But it's beterr to algh than cry.

  • @spongebobnik Agreed.

  • Radiohead has lost it's way from rock basics. I guess it's pretty music, I dunno, but I can't rock out to it, can meditate maybe and fall asleep. Where is the drum, bass, screaming guitar and earthy singer? This ain't rock. You can't tap your feet to it.

  • @jon2bec2 You're right it's definitely not rock, but who ever said it was?

  • @jon2bec2 that is correct. But all music is not about "rocking out".

  • @jon2bec2 shut up you muppet!

  • Oh! It's beautiful...

  • Faust is a character from Christian mythology who sold his soul to a demon for divine powers.

In rainbows was the first album released by radiohead without a record label.

Very good metaphore I think you will agree.

  • You know i honestly like this much as Kid A and OK computer. All three records are truly incredible though.

  • my favourite album thus far in my life

  • Comment removed

  • Wonderfull song.

  • Sometimes you can be falling in and out of thoughts and feelings. This makes me feel like I'm falling. It captures the feeling of being torn.

  • orgasmic.

  • i can play this song on the guitar

  • congrats bro.f

  • I love you but enough is enough, a last stop, there's no real reason.

  • this song sounds like ,,,.,.,.all we are is dust in the wind..... fuck fakers

  • @petrucciado lol

  • i always see many radiohead lyrics as a series of one liners. but somehow they relate well.=)

  • @Naytinfinity Thom Yorke said he writes many of his songs by writing down every thought on a strip of paper then putting them all in a tophat and picking them out randomly and piecing them together so they fit. That would explain why...

  • @BenL123 yeah.i've read that too. it's amazing how that works.

  • His voice is the prettiest instrument in this song

  • mmmmmm warm

  • This is why I love Radiohead. They're lyrical content have a weird way of describing me. Although this is definitely not their best album, it's pretty amazing none the less.

  • FAUST IS MY LAST NAME LOLWUT WHOAH.

  • when I listen to this song my soul is like a flower opening to the sun

  • Why does this song make me think of The Beatles?

  • Comment removed

  • @MinkyBoodle44 my guess (or what does it for me) is 3 things. First is the fact that its an acoustic ballad that mentions 'blackbird pie' so i instantly think 'Blackbird' by The Beatles, then the light string work at the end is reminiscent of a Paul move. Second, put John or Paul on vocals and this would seamlessly fit anywhere on the White Album. And lastly, the short time of 2:43 puts it in the average Beatles song range.

  • @Rebelhoss85 2:10 sorry. :)

  • @Rebelhoss85 surely there is beatles influence in radiohead's work(along with countless others). there are a few key differences between this song and what the beatles could have written, though. 1)the beatles never achieved the harmonic subltely/ingenuity that radiohead(thank you jonny greenwood) has become synonmous with in my mind.2)none of the beatles ever could and never will be able to write a string arrangement, george martin did it for them.3)i've never heard any beatle be so delicate

  • @davidpolkmusic I agree i was wrong about the string arrangements, I am aware that Paul never actually wrote them, but it was George Martin, in his own words, who merely only "made happen" what the musically untrained Beatles were trying to do anyway. Also, the poster asked specifically why this song reminded him of the Beatles. This song does not have the harmonic complexities you speak of, but i do know what you are talking about in regards to Radiohead. And finally, i still stand strong..

  • @davidpolkmusic That if you put Paul or John on vocals circa 1965, this would fit seamlessly anywhere on the White Album. And lastly, while it is true that The Beatles were nowhere nearly as 'poetic' in there style of writing and delivery as Thom, they could conjure up all the emotions at will just as Radiohead can. And being delicate was one of them. Blackbird is this songs mother (in style). Blackbird is so delicate. A broken bird waiting all its life to fly into the light from darkness.

  • @davidpolkmusic Try Blackbird?

  • It's a shame it's such a sort song, but if it were any longer or any shorter, it just wouldn't be the same. Great song.

  • faust huh..?

yeap, he sold his soul for sure....

another great album is more than just talent....

  • i wish i lived in this album

  • @AlexisxiLY Truer words have never been spoken.

  • @AlexisxiLY Keep dreaming lol

  • Best Song From The Best Album From The Best Band. Go figure.

    'Nuff said.

  • Dammit Radiohead, stop being so brilliant, your making other bands look inferior.

  • Comment removed

  • very nice song.......

  • @Worst050 i was just gonna post the exact same comment.. oh well.

  • To those who think X writes/plays/sings/whatevers better than Y: Beauty is in the eye (or ear etc) of the beholder. Each to their own. One man's meat is another man's poison. (Or woman's, if it bothers you that much. =P ) Different strokes for different folks. Am I making myself clear? Fact: There are more people in the world that think McCartney is better than Thom. Fact: I disagree (although I think Macca is {was, anyway!} brilliant).

I also think it's reminiscent of the Beatles a bit. =)

  • @weirdunclebob I think Macca (cute name, LOL) is more talented than Thom, but I like Thom better. And that statement is purely down to my humble opinion.

  • I love you but enough is enough

    enough of that stuff

  • what wierd awesome art

  • (L)

  • IMO the last two lines "You've got a head full of feathers, you got melted to butter" are vaguely reminiscent of the story of Icarus, who tumbles back to earth after flying too close to the sun.

IMO the entire album has a theme: A man "stuck" in a stifling marriage/job from which he's desperate to escape... he meets a desirable woman... tries to fight temptation... but eventually succumbs to her charms in Jigsaw... finally feeling condemned to Hell for his one moment of happiness, like Faust.

  • This sounds like something McCartney would write. It's so lovely.

  • @MrZebraZombie Thom writes better lyrics than Paul.

  • @dredeye, uhhh I believe it's a fact that McCartney is one of the greatest songwriters in history. Better than Thom, (don't get me wrong, he writes fantastic songs). The only person who could rival McCartney was Lennon, and he's dead.

  • @MrZebraZombie Just because he wrote songs for the Beatles doesn't mean he is one of the best songwriters in history. The Beatles for famous for many reasons and lyrics were not the primary reason. I think McCartney actually wrote some really lame songs for them and some even worse ones in his solo career.

  • @dredeye hmmm nah i disagree. they're probably on about the same level. there's only a few radiohead songs where the lyrics are stand out awesome (let down, no surprises...), thom's genius is mostly musical.

  • What a beautiful song.

  • he is a brilliant lyricist

  • love the flow

  • I think this is my favorite off "In Rainbows".

  • @utahcharlotte Me, too.. My most listened to song over that past 2 and a half years.

  • this song i beleive, is about being in a relationship where one of the individuals is alcoholic... maybe it has to do with the fact that thom is quite a heavy drinker

  • This is the coolest shit since sliced bread.

  • wonderful

  • I don't know why this song isn't more loved than it is...

    I think it's incredible.

  • I get chills at 1:24.

  • If you seach: RFID on google you will find pictures of a chip the same as the picture of the two chips here. RFID will maybe one day be implanted in all of us, so the men behind the governments can watch every single move we make!

  • regarding band comparisons:

"I love you but enough is enough,

    enough of that stuff...

    there's no real reason"

  • My most played song over the past 2 years for a reason!. Love it.

  • it's comments like that that gave rise to the Nazi's

  • Shhhhhhhhhh....don't compare just listen

  • dont you just love it how no matter what video you go to you'll find idiots arguing about nothing when everyone should just be listening to the music

  • @dmackendog Actually it irritates me when I see comments like "CANT WE ALL JUST SHUT UP N LISTEN TO THE MUSIC FOR PETES SAKE". If you don't want to take part in arguing or comparing or whatever take your own advice and "just listen to the music".

  • @dmackendog Why else do they have these comment boxes if not for us to argue? ;)

  • @dmackendog I say if you have something against a song, then why are you listening to it? I LOVE this song(: And I totally agree with your comment.

  • I've at least listened to this song 30 times today. Ridiculously addictive.

  • @Verazze ya its funny, but its so replayable

  • i love Pink Floyd (just to brighten the mood here).

you can see similarities in some of the songs, as what you can in more a less every single band. + Thom is a Pink Floyd Fan :)

  • Think its more Beatles than Pink Floyd

  • @RajeshMukkath yeah if i had to compare it to something that would be it, but it isnt completely close, i think the singer for this band sounds alot different, but the music definitly sounds like beatles music. its really good.

  • @DemTodVonJosh the string arrangement is very resentment of the Beatles....but i always felt that Radiohead are more infulenced by Post Punk and 80 is indie Rock bands than the Beatles and Pink Floyd

  • @RajeshMukkath thats understandable. it was nice talking to you about this :D

  • Okay, What?! I mean listen to a floyd song like High Hopes. That song has everything. as close as you can get to a perfect song. Perhaps you will appreciate the string arrangements. And in my opinion it has one of the best guitar solos ever (is actually played on a lapsteal). And to be honest if there was no floyd there certainly would be no radiohead. I mean Paranoid Android, that is just imitation Floyd, great song, but it is. And just to let you know im not slagging radiohead, I love them.

  • joking, right?

  • @ler0y182 Paranoid Android has nothing to do with Pink Floyd, man

  • i mean don't get me wrong i agree with you that Pink Floyd is an amazing band, but to say that without them there'd be no radiohead is bullshit

  • there would be a radiohead bu they wouldn't sound anything like they do withought that kind of inspiration

  • without what kind of inspiration? radiohead has tons of influences, they draw inspiration from a myriad of different things. one more one less wouldn't have made as much difference as you think.

  • Okay perhaps saying that there would be no radiohead was abit hasty but they would sound completely different. I mean there sound isnt imediately rocognizable as floyd but its so dirived from floyd. And I would argue that the floyd influence in paranoid android is more about the structure and song writing style rather than the sound. And if you want something a lttile more obvious try Radiohead-lucky. Again fantastic song but it is pure Floyd homage, especially the chorus.

  • it is really NOT derived from Pink Floyd. it really fucking isn't. you need to wash out crap out of your ears and listen. apart from Lucky and The Tourist Radiohead doesn't have any more songs that sound even remotely Pink Floyd-esque.

  • also, the influence of Paranoid Android structure-wise is Happiness Is A Warm Gun by The Beatles. initially Paranoid Android was three separate songs that Radiohead decided to stick together. are Radiohead and Pink Floyd the only two bands you've ever heard? cause that could be the reason you can't see anything beyond that.

  • also, is OK Computer the only album by Radiohead you've heard? cause please tell me in which way Life In a Glass House, Myxomatosis, Knives Out, 2+2=5, Bodysnatchers, 15 Step, etc, etc, etc sound like Pink Floyd. please be so kind enlighten me, cause i just don't hear it.

  • Okay I think you get the wrong idea, Im not saying they are like identicle sounds, Floyd are one of many radiohead influences. It was merely a response to what somone had said specifically about floyd. And dude I think I was being pretty diplomatic and fair. So if your gona get petty Im really not arsed. Its my opinion and if you want to discuss it, great, but just cause you know you can fuck me over with your superior doesnt make you cool.

  • superiority*

  • you stated that radiohead's sound is derived from Pink Floyd. i'm asking you which songs on The Bends, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief, In Rainbows and OK Computer (besides Lucky and The Tourist) sound like Pink Floyd to you. please be so kind. I think i've been pretty diplomatic too and explained a lot of rudimentary shit that should be obvious to anyone with a brain and a pair of ears.

  • ANOTHER thing...as for this song being a Pink Floyd homage, you should get in line with all the people claiming that the song is actually a homage to Nick Drake...or The Beatles...or Elliott Smith... or..or ..or so you might wanna cross this one off the list, because the influence on this song is very much unclear.

  • Jesus dude I know your under the impression that im some gimp whos only heard Ok computer and the bends and thinks hes a radiohead fan. No my favorite album is probably Kid A and then Amnesiac. And I think your putting far too much emphasis on what Iv said. It was a passing comment that I think is fairly relevant. And no I do not think you have been diplomatic, the swearing and singleing me out to make me look like a dipshit. Theres just no need.

  • i asked you a simple question. why won't you answer me? if you're making such bold claims as 'Radiohead's sound is derived from Pink Floyd', you should be able to back it up with some satisfactory logical reasoning and plenty of examples. i'm still waiting.

  • Well I would have to say that in particular the idea and conceptual structure behind Ok computer is one that has come from (Amongst many others) Pink Floyd. And if something is derived it doesnt necessarily meen it bears any resembelance to the source. And I dont think its as bold a statement as saying 'pink floyd aren't very good' which is what I was responding to.

  • that's right...AMONG MANY OTHERS. because believe it or not Pink Floyd did not invent a classic concept album. not to mention that OK Computer wasn't actually made to be a concept album...however it is commonly interpreted that way. anyway, thanks for your time. no hard feelings, i hope. cheers.

  • Yes but thats just it, Im not saying Floyd is the only influence, there are alot, its just that floyd are the current topic at question. I just think your blowing what im saying out of proportion, it wasnt that big a deal. And yes I think we should leave it at that. I think we both have better things to do than sit on youtube for hours arguing about trivial shit. No hard feelings.

  • what i think you need to understand is that usually when someone claims that such and such band derived their sound from a particular band, it is implied that their sound is derivative, not original, and yes, resembles the band from which it is derived. so you should be careful throwing such statements around...because it can definitely ruffle some feathers. well, i most certainly had a 'WTF?!' reaction. anyway, take care.

  • To be honest, I think its more about how what I said was interprated, and I think our opinions on the matter arnt actually that different. its just about technicalitys. Anyway that is my LAST word on the matter. Cus my mum is gonna go mental if this vacuuming isnt done by the time she gets back.

  • @Rrambler from our first words as a child to our eulogies, all communication is borrowed from our social ties. music is no exception

  • All art forms, genres and fields are a progressive element, the new constantly influenced by the old. It is impossible to experience any form of music without being in some way influenced by it, and deriving some form of reactionary adaptation, however subtle, that lingers with you. Floyd are great. Radiohead are great. It is certain an element of influence is there. It is, however, largely irrelevant in the greater scheme of pertinence necessary to appreciate this song for what it is. PAX.

  • word

  • Answer me: how? How did they do it?! A have no idea...Genius.

  • amazing

  • trippy time signatures :] not easy to get the groove of that stuff but they definitely have mastered it

  • modern day pink floyd

  • Anyone who doesn't think Radiohead was influenced by Pink Floyd has a dolt for an ear.

  • @krane33

I don't exactly think they were influenced by pink floyd. Yes, both bands do play great experimental music, but Pink Floyd had a more psychedelic/synthy/ambient sound while radiohead has a more electronic, industrial, alternative sound, along with relying on guitar and any effects they make with a guitar. Just listen to Dark Side of the Moon, Meddle, or the Wall then listen to In Rainbows, OK Computer. Not too much of an influence, but you could argue there is a tiny bit there

  • Dark Side of the Moon had a direct and heavy influence on OK Computer. But if you can't hear it you can't hear it...

  • @krane33

Dark Side of the Moon had a direct and heavy influence on 2 Radiohead songs, namely Lucky and The Tourist. Thatsssit.

  • I bow to your rod.

  • But they can't be the same fella.Different times...same ideal
