During WWII, some norwegian guys kalled "the Heroes of Telemark" did several actions of sabotage in Rjukan (in Telemark, Norway) to prevent the German nuclear energy project from acquiring heavy water, which could be used to produce nuclear weapons!

Telemark skiing got nothing to do with the WW2 sabotage operation. As you can see from the video, telemark skiiers raise the heel on the inner ski in order to make a turn.This requiers a special binding with loose heels. Sondre Nordheim, who lived in Telemark, developed a binding for this purpose with a strap behind the heel, which makes the skiis much more stabile. This is the reason it's called telemark skiing.
