I'm 20 now and have dealt with Tourettes for years now. Over the years it's calmed down a bit thanks to medication and having outlets like drawing. Most people don't even notice unless I'm very stressed out (I don't have coprolalia). I wish I had seen this when I began struggling with it. I remember sitting in class and finding myself sniffing uncontrollably. A guy in my class said "Omg you're disgusting, get a tissue!" and began to laugh. I knew I couldn't control it but didn't know why.
This video is great. I am going to show it to my daughters when they get home. I think it would help them to see other kids talking about their struggles. Thank you!
if anyone minds answering this when some cases of touretts involves cursing randomly rite? well what if a little kid say 4 or 5 has a tick to yell a curse is that possible or do they do something else besides

I always wonder because my eyes twitch, I'll just sop talking and my head just jolts left or right and I have a bit of a cough always . And sometimes, if im really mad, my nose just completely twitches like crazy .
I was diagnosed with TS in high school. Looking back, I'm glad my ticks weren't overly noticeable. But the main problem I've experienced is with the obsessions. When life gets stressful, I just obsess and obsess over everything, no matter how small. And when I obsessed- I had to tick. Then people would notice, pick on me, and I had to tick more. But, I feel that my high school life was still decently normal. I go to a private university now, and I know that the possibilities for us are endless.
@Talisman09 Do you really think that tourettes sufferers enjoy being subjected to mockery and bullying from poeple as heartless and small minded as yourself. My friend has a mild case of tourettes and she would give anything in the world to be rid of it. It has nothing to do with determination. As for children in 3rd world countries, they most likely dont have a doctor to diagnose tourettes. Anyone can have tourettes, no matter what they're background.
Show me a child in a third world country / living in poverty with this Tourettes. I notice it only seems to be coming from kids with generally privileged lifestyles, who haven't had it slapped out of them. Haha, I'm not saying they should be subjected to violence, but I think soft parenting and indulgence induced boredom could have a lot to do with it
@Talisman09 dude, you're a jerk. Why would anyone Fake or Exaggerate a condition that makes life so much harder for them?! I hope karma comes back to bite u in the butt for those insensitive comments. And duh, children in 3rd world countries DO have the same types of issues, but it's the least of their worries because they are more interested in finding FOOD and WATER to physically survive.
@colbysl1 ps, tourettes sufferers, I'm on your side! Just remember that you all will live much happier and fulfilled lives than those who look down on you. They clearly aren't happy and confident in themselves or they would be more compassionate towards, and accepting of others.
@Talisman09 look i have tourettes and im not priviledged in the least n you know wat yes u can hold a tic in but it feels horrible i have a tic were i jerk my head back really fast and i got a bruised muscle i hate having ts and its hard yes but its harder with people like you putting rude superficial stereotypical comments lke this
It's not contagious...Gee, y'don't say? I've had urges to do strange twitches / ticks earlier on in my life, along with OCD type behaviour. I don't do any of that shit anymore, so I think anyone can DISPEL it with enough determination. I think a lot of these people don't have any intention of doing that, though. Call me callous, but these people don't have my sympathy. I think the majority of them enjoy being victims. ADD probably develops in to this ficticious "tourettes" syndrome.

@swlwarriors1 dude y would i do that. I have tourettes, i dont care what people say, think, laugh, talk about me. u just have to man up. the world is like this. if you expect to be treated the best way possible than it porbablly wont happen. seriously you were given a life so you can survive through it. some people dont meet those expectations but most do.
im 16 with tourrettes and my 12 year old brother has aspergers syndrome and me and him both get terrorized by other people and its the hardest thing to deal with... people always say "it would be funny to be able to yell out curse words at random"...fuck you...its not fun and not funny wat so ever. it tears ur life apart with the looks you get and the names u get and it puts u in the worst state of depression. i was to the point of suicide but i realized all the friends i do have saved me...
@iRockTheIntervention I'm 25 w/ Tourette's as well as ADD and OCD. As a suggestion, the best thing to do is make fun of yourself. When you go to public places, exaggerate your TS, adding some coprolalia (blurting out swears and other socially-unacceptable phrases). It may seem that I'm joking, but I'm not. The key is to raise your self-esteem. At times, having Tourette's is not so bad. Also, in a couple years, try nicotine. At least for me, it helps with the tics when they are bugging me.
Little Sweeties. I sure do hope people understand this disorder a little better now. I know i sure do. and If i see a person doing something like this. NOW i know they are not just trying to piss me off, be annoying, or rude. they just cant help it. So thank you Kiddos =)
Ya'll are brave. Im sure your family and friends and other people out there are inspired by you. I know I am. ^_^
I think that we are all speacial in our own way, this is how God chose to make you all unique. Love urselves no matter wat anyone else feels, although this awareness is great, ur strength is even more AWESOME!!!!
I have tourettes and OCD and hyper activity. I twitch and make weird noises and squel/sqeek but that dosent mean I'm different (or retarded as some ass holes would say) I'm just me.I can do anything but I'm still me .I could break my leg and not turn into a different person I would still be me.so if you get tourettes it dosent mean your a different person your still you whatever happens.
I'm 13, and I have really bad TS, and I have one vocal tic, and 3 motor tics. It sometimes hurts my side, and a lot of the boys in my class call me retarded. It really stinks.
@mktdseacwordsuntold im your age n i hav ts too my sub sent me too the office cuz she didnt know i know its hard n all but if you teach your friends about it like i did they can become feircely defensive so try teaching people about it i hope things get better for you
amazing video, it's great to see that those kids are totally aware of their conditions... it's great that they can openly talk about it; that way they'll feel more confortable with themselves and as they accepted themselves people'll do it to, it's great that they dont feel ashamed of their conditions because they understand it isnt their fault, it's a dissability and they know it isnt gonna stop them of living the life a child should live
I am 13 and I have a severe case of ADHD and I'm a girl which is rare in girls and I have tics too. When I first saw this, i said yes I'm not alone in the world. My parents put me in dance to channel my impulsive energy into something good. My doctor also said that my ADHD comes with tics and a bit of OCD.when I become obsessed with small things. My friends dont and have never teased me about it they just think it makes me more me! It's great to be different.
The kid with the dread locks is actually my best friend, His Name is david, and hes gotten alot better and has been able to keep alot of his tics under control
i dont have tourettes i have ocd (obsessive compulsive disorder) with my disorder everything has to be placed straight not crooked i would go crazy and i cant touch something with just one hand it has to be both and if i dont do these things i would squeeze my hands or my arm really hard to let the pain out :( but my life is going good im in 9th grade this year i dont have tics during school alot but when i do i try to hide them
i dont have tourettes i have ocd (obsessive compulsive disorder) its kinda like tourettes but not exactly the same ocd is like when you have things going through your mind that you just have to do something...for example: your walking down the street and you see a tree and sombody else is walking but they are closer to the tree you feel the need to speed up to get there before the other person does its like your reaction to everyday things...
I am sincerly sorry if this does sound wrong but I think it would be rather easy to find jobs for people with Tourettes because they can become somthing like a comdeian {i know my spelling stinks i do have TS} but it doesnt stop me from doing things like going to the movies or the mall its just when poeple start stareing is when I can not controll it. It Just happens.
Totally funny when people get mad about the comments others leave here, but anyway, very true with the acupuncture it does help, I know many tourette S. People and some they do choose to try other stuff and I must say acupuncture does work!!
I have tourrete's! I'm 14, I'm lucky I guess, I don't really have it as sevire as these kids do. :( Really the only thing you can notice that I do is my facial tics, everything else is more of a not-being-able-to-sit-still. I'm really greatful that I have awesome friends who don't really care about it, and defend me against the occasional retard who makes fun of it. Thru the years I've learned that....If you don't care you have tourette's, neither will other people.
Ummmmm it's sick all the rude comments on here about these children an people who can't help it! ...atleast they hv a reason for what comes out of there mouth! They can't help it!!!! but you mean people who hv nothing nice to say about those with disabilities ...are the real RETARDED FREEKS!. Cus y'all CHOOSE not to keep ur sick comments to ur self!!! ~jus sayin
An excellent video - PLEASE if you know of a kid that has TS - have them try acupuncture - two visits helped almost totally eliminate the urge to tic for both my son and nephew.
i am studying to be a teacher and my classmate and I will be presenting on Tourette's syndrome with a focus on how to give a student with Tourette's the best chance of learning in class.
Thank you for this video. It is wonderful reference material.
My 5 year old son has tourettes and its not really his tics that are hard to deal with , its all the other things that come along with Tourettes that are hard to deal with . He has seaver ADHD as well as ODD (which is the one thats super hard to handle) and sometimes its very hard to know how to dicipline him . Its hard to know what he can help and what he cant . I sometimes feel like the only mother on earth who has a child like him , but as long as he's happy , thats all that matters .
@AngelBones84 my little brother has seaver ADHD and ODD but he doesn't have tourettes and he just drive me up the wall all the time so i hope u can coop. better then me
wen my mom was pregnant w/ me, she was put on Reglin... some side effects were restless leg symdrome and TS. my mom got restless leg and i ot some tics. some of mine were pushing my lower lip up, yelping noises, straining my throat muscles lke wen u cough but if u kep on holding it your muscles strt 2 hurt., moving my eyes up, blinking really hard, widing my eyes, shrugging, cracking my neck, straining my biceps (like when you flex your biceps you kinda make them pop out., a, i kept doing tht)
i hate it is really nice to be able to talk abut it to others. i got mine from my mum and one of my brothers has it but i have it the worst i am a girl i am 12 and mine change when i get angry
so proud of this courageous young man to be speaking to people about his condition, he is very mature for his age and if he was my son I would be very proud!
wow, i just started reading a book called «jerk» by jonathan friesen and its about a teenager who has tourettes and woww, i didnt know this was it...props to those courageous kids
These kids.... I'm 16, and I am just like these kids. I actually have most of these kid's tics, the eye movements, the hand things.... these kid's, I know how they feel. My brother has the same thing, he is 12 and he also has Coprolalia, uncontrollable swearing out of context. I myself, having Tourette's, am one of the few with the right to say it is annoying as hell. We are like everyone else, we just have some brain probs.
I have TS and people in school make fun of me, My dad past it on to me and my two brothers, and I'm the youngest and I'm a girl and I have it worst then anyone in my family, I have like all the tics they have and more then that :( I take o-rap which is a medicine but it wont work very well, I'm proud of who I am but other people aren't :-/
@baro96 have you spoken with your teacher about doing a presentation about ts...or maybe showing your class the entire i have ts vid? forget other people...i went to your page...putting up so many vids of yourself shows alot of self confidence
I saw this video when i was younger. and now i am seeing it again. I see people making fun of these thing and what i think is that the people who make fun or them are the ones who actually have an issue not children with TS. That is how i think of it. These kids are very courageous to be able to get on T.V. and talk about how that have TS.
I really liked this video and I would definitely have any problem with anyone with tourettes, and all the normal should not have. This counts not only for this mentall deficit, but all kinds of it. I really hate people making fun of another ones, just because something, they can not manage.
I belive there will be medical one day to cure all the people, so stay brave how you are, dont give up, fight through your life and just ignore assholes that are doing anything bad to you.
you inspire me so much you are my idol I am 11 years old please i hope you read this and i have tourette i am cying as i write this and my dad is the one who passed it on to me i have a question. Can you make a video of what can i do when i am the youngest of three and i have a baby brother what should i do if my sisters are making fun of me?Why i feel trapped and why they hate me.please i need your help from:your biggest fan - Alondra Pineda thank you
@sarahownzAlondra alondra, i just posted the vid...didnt make it...do a youtube search for, lotsofcurlz36...she is a teen with ts...pm her, im sure she would be happy to give you suggestions
cant believe your own family makes fun of you...there is nothing wrong with you...any more than there is something wrong with someone with a cough...which is what tics are
fyi....all the kids in this vid are doing great now....some are in college....you are gonna make it
I also have a tic, its one of those nose snort sounds. Most peopla who know me knows I have it. In certain situations I can stop the tics all together. But it is still most of the time i do it. I understand what these children are going through. Mine may be slight, but i still understand the the driving need to let a tic have its way. Im worse when im exited or mad. God bless!
I love those kids, I admire them a lot, they are sooo brave :) I think people that makes fun of it are the retards.... Just look at them! they are much clever and mature than an average kid.
@gooberhomedogchip dude..meh to... from the le petite tourette episode lmao. but it was a good episode and i watched this video a long time ago and now im obsessed with learning about disorders so yeah... THANKS YOU TREY PARKER AND MATT STONE!
I have TS and OCD but nobody at my school knows I do except for a small amount of people, because I can suppress my tics quite well and I am shy about it.
I don't want to be ashamed of my TS but because it didn't show up until I was a freshman in High School I am still worried about it. I'm a Junior now and I want to spread awareness about TS and my own TS. Any suggestions?
@freakzunited2 what i would suggest is setting up a meeting with you, your parents, the principle/dean, and school psychologist...requesting a time when you can address your class regarding your ts and they can be shown the video
you should not feel ashamed or embarrassed about who you are, and it will be a great learning experience for your school
if they ask me about it and they are interested i can tell them about it and they can find out more about it and understand it i do the best i can to control it but if they come out oh well if you cant hold it in then you just cant
i have tourettes and it causes me to blink like every two seconds sometimes and lick my lips so they constantly get chapped and when they get chapped i cant help but keep licking them and kids at school were just making fun of me today but i dont hate my tourettes i see it as a way to see how people are and if they are really mean because say im sitting there constantly blinking if people sit there and make fun of me and they mock me and they start doing it i can tell those arent good people but
i have tourette's too, and i shake my head too. its exactly like the kid who shakes his head. the only difference in mine is that i don't realize when i do it. the second i stop paying attention to it, i start doing it and i don't realize it. i am getting a little better, but i'm still somewhat adolescent so we will see.
@jakethesnake979 I think you should read a book called "JERK California". It's about a boy with tourette's and it's one of my all time favorite books. Also, the author of the book has tourette's, so the book goes into a deep level of what people with tourette's feel, i learned a lot from it. I think anyone with tourette's would like it because they can empathize with the protagonist and it raises awareness for tourette's. Anyways, my prayers are with you and everyone with tourette's =)
i have the twitching part....its really mild but still its annoying like once i start doing one thing i wont be able to stop for a while :( but i dont have the cursing one
@enishicz28 Autism isn't always so bad. I love it. Many people with autism have great gifts, like an exceptional long-term memory. I'd rather have autism than Tourette's Syndrome, but maybe that's because I already have autism. If you don't have either, then you might rather have Tourette's.
Important update: The kid who shakes his head will be featured on TLC on Sept. 13 along with three other kids with Tourette's. Turns out he's a musical savant, and he's gonna be just fine with a career once he gets an agent, manager, record deal, and all that stuff. The guy can truly play the blues automatically just like Clapton. He has maturity problems like any other 18-year-old, but he's gonna be fine. His Tourette's is the least of his problems! Check out the attached video!
Well, I can't figure out how to actually attach the video, but this is it. It was shot a little more than a year ago, when Colin was not yet even 17: youtube.com/watch?v=ceFgd42BAoA Basically, the kid is all over YouTube, so if anyone wants to look for his stuff, fresh or older, feel free to check it out and get the word out. He's the real deal. :)
Hey every in I have tourettes pretty bad just like these kids so life with tourettes isn't fun some people are like o I wish I had tourettes so I can get out of school early and stuff but it's not like that it hurts really bad
@45Automag dude, you fucking suck. These kids are disabled. If you went in public and started laughing at a guy in a wheelchair like 'HAHAHA YOU CANT WALK AND YOU SUCK AT LIFE" how would that make them feel? Go jump off a building or see a doctor.
i think those people who always make fun of this condition will just be able to understand this if they'll catch this. .
so please. . just shut ur self or just dont mind such things that annoy u as well as this vid. .

@swlwarriors1 dude y would i do that. I have tourettes, i dont care what people say, think, laugh, talk about me. u just have to man up. the world is like this. if you expect to be treated the best way possible than it porbablly wont happen. seriously you were given a life so you can survive through it. some people dont meet those expectations but most do.

im 16 with tourrettes and my 12 year old brother has aspergers syndrome and me and him both get terrorized by other people and its the hardest thing to deal with... people always say "it would be funny to be able to yell out curse words at random"...fuck you...its not fun and not funny wat so ever. it tears ur life apart with the looks you get and the names u get and it puts u in the worst state of depression. i was to the point of suicide but i realized all the friends i do have saved me...
iRockTheIntervention 8 months ago
@iRockTheIntervention I'm 25 w/ Tourette's as well as ADD and OCD. As a suggestion, the best thing to do is make fun of yourself. When you go to public places, exaggerate your TS, adding some coprolalia (blurting out swears and other socially-unacceptable phrases). It may seem that I'm joking, but I'm not. The key is to raise your self-esteem. At times, having Tourette's is not so bad. Also, in a couple years, try nicotine. At least for me, it helps with the tics when they are bugging me.
Normdogg1985 8 months ago
Little Sweeties. I sure do hope people understand this disorder a little better now. I know i sure do. and If i see a person doing something like this. NOW i know they are not just trying to piss me off, be annoying, or rude. they just cant help it. So thank you Kiddos =)
Ya'll are brave. Im sure your family and friends and other people out there are inspired by you. I know I am. ^_^

I have tourettes and OCD and hyper activity. I twitch and make weird noises and squel/sqeek but that dosent mean I'm different (or retarded as some ass holes would say) I'm just me.I can do anything but I'm still me .I could break my leg and not turn into a different person I would still be me.so if you get tourettes it dosent mean your a different person your still you whatever happens.

amazing video, it's great to see that those kids are totally aware of their conditions... it's great that they can openly talk about it; that way they'll feel more confortable with themselves and as they accepted themselves people'll do it to, it's great that they dont feel ashamed of their conditions because they understand it isnt their fault, it's a dissability and they know it isnt gonna stop them of living the life a child should live

It's great to be different.

i dont have tourettes i have ocd (obsessive compulsive disorder) with my disorder everything has to be placed straight not crooked i would go crazy and i cant touch something with just one hand it has to be both and if i dont do these things i would squeeze my hands or my arm really hard to let the pain out :( but my life is going good im in 9th grade this year i dont have tics during school alot but when i do i try to hide them
taetaeboo3 10 months ago
i dont have tourettes i have ocd (obsessive compulsive disorder) its kinda like tourettes but not exactly the same ocd is like when you have things going through your mind that you just have to do something...for example: your walking down the street and you see a tree and sombody else is walking but they are closer to the tree you feel the need to speed up to get there before the other person does its like your reaction to everyday things...

@n3rd89 I know a girl whose tics are so bad she is disabled by them.
I shout out non-swear words too like "words", "tins" and "never never lever never" etc.
I say swears too. You can't choose your tics. Some say swears and inappropriate things, others say random words.

Any suggestions?
freakzunited2 1 year ago
@freakzunited2 what i would suggest is setting up a meeting with you, your parents, the principle/dean, and school psychologist...requesting a time when you can address your class regarding your ts and they can be shown the video
you should not feel ashamed or embarrassed about who you are, and it will be a great learning experience for your school

i have tourette's too, and i shake my head too. its exactly like the kid who shakes his head. the only difference in mine is that i don't realize when i do it. the second i stop paying attention to it, i start doing it and i don't realize it. i am getting a little better, but i'm still somewhat adolescent so we will see.

Check out the attached video!
ihtbtdhm 1 year ago
Well, I can't figure out how to actually attach the video, but this is it. It was shot a little more than a year ago, when Colin was not yet even 17: youtube.com/watch?v=ceFgd42BAoA Basically, the kid is all over YouTube, so if anyone wants to look for his stuff, fresh or older, feel free to check it out and get the word out. He's the real deal. :)
