Check that the float in the carb isn't leaking. Other than that all you can do is adjust the screw needle by removing the limit screws and screwing it down a bit more.
Check the timing and carburettor settings. They should run better under load. If it's running under no load try retarding the timing to about 10deg BTDC.
PS I worked for yorkshire water about 20yrs ago as a tractor driver we had some big lister diesels from the 1940's i think on pumps they were really good engines, still working in the early 1980's
in uk it is our pm BROWN THE CLOWN and is party new labour who is causing us trouble he does not like trucks or tractors they are going to tax us $1000 to own old trators all best from yorkshire
hi i am trying to show the rest of the world what a load of twats brown and new labour are and if they bring this tax in it will stop folk collecting old machinery i have 1956 b250 tractor we cant run on red any moor with old stuff now this tax what next all best from yorkshire
I know, it's an insult. What happened to a free country...? I drive an old car and save old machinery of allsorts from the scrap man.... and made to feel like an 'Enemy of the State' because of it
I have a 1950 Ferguson TEC 20 with a P3 engine. We used to run it on red till we started rallying it. So our 1956 DB 25D used it up running around the field. Its annoying because when the law came out my dad had just purchashed 100 litres of the stuff.
i was wondering (since you seem to know your stuff on lister's) i recently bought a lister D and it appears to be different from the ones you have here. the mag is mounted at near the bottom of the engine and gas tank is located farther out. do know what year this engine was made?
Hi There, It sounds to me like you have a very early one. 1926 until about 1933. If you have the engine number, I can give you an exact date. By the way, there are a lot of books available for the Lister D Type, some about restoration, others about the history. Hope this helps.
would you know any good suppliers of fuel tanks for the aa1 lister petter single cylinder please i have had no luck getting one for mine thanks in advance its a 5 lte metal type tank dont want to put a copy one on as loads of people have been trying to sell me
Sorry I can't help you. I would suggest looking in the small ads in the stationary engine magazine. If copy tanks are available, that might be your only option.
The water is used for cooling the cylinder and head. As long as there is water, the engine cannot run hotter than 100C. Some were fitted with larger hoppers or radiators for increased cooling capacity. Remember these engines were designed to run for hours on end, without much, if any, attention. Thanks for your interest
Great job, that things runnin like a wee mouse chawin paper

How do you get them to runthat sweet, even when hot mine will at least eight cycle most of the time of load.

Ok thanks, I thinkthen I will get a pulley for it and run it under load, more preferable to messing with the timing!
If I do though i will let you know the result.

Iv'e solved the problem now, bought a new plug and it's now sweet as a nut!

I like the camera angles.
By the way, what is everyone on about this tax of Mr Browns? I'm not very informed on these things.
