not exactly. there are green, red, and blue gel colors for the ant farm. I am getting the red one :)! melting it then adding dye would be a cool idea. I doubt it, but the gel might explode.

no. the only place u can buy queen ants in america is from retail shops or from germany. which u cant do because of law. makes me proud to be english =D my ant farm has 20queen ants lol bought em all at once from germany. cost me 70pound

@imjustsomenigg These things are not designed to support a colony of ants, and most ant keepers will tell you so. As for looks, it is just that. These ants die after so long. This is not a permanent keeping for ants, even a queen. Its not designed in anyway to sustain long term colonies. It is basically a toy for children.

Is it a bad idea to put a tiny pile of moist sand in the corner to see them work with it? Another question, I know the gell has all the nutrients for the ants but can you put a bit of food anyway?

dont listen to this guy he has no idea. yes put as much sand and soil in as u can all over it. its alot better for them. and yes add a little bit of food to give them variety or they get bored and die. i perfer ant world ant farms. alot better and are long term. and can be extended so basicly u spend 10pound on it. want a bigger one spend anouther 10pound and so on. ive spend about 300pound on my ant farm.

Best is to get the same type of ants. Big ones are good as you can see more clearly. They cant escape, the cap is sealed tight.
