For me they billed this movie wrong. From the trailer it looks like its going to be a cool adventure type movie with intrigue, action, and mystery. All we got was a movie about old films and their preservation...which yes it was about just that.

This is the first time I ever walked out of a movie. I usually love this kind of thing but I found it predictable and tedious. The little boy is charming enough but the girl is awful, awful, awful.She was clearly trying for a Hermione Grainger-ish free-spirited eccentric but just came off as affected and strained. Not to mention the uncle and giantess from Harry Potter and good old ubiquitous Sir Christopher Lee. I'll have to read the book, I'm sure it's far superior

The music video to "Tonight, Tonight" by The Smashing Pumpkins is another reference to the films of Georges Méliès in American pop culture. Even the ship at the end is called the S.S. Méliès. Also, Hugo is fairly accurate in portraying his life and career, for anyone who didn't realize that "Papa George" was an actual guy.

I liked this movie. I enjoyed the comedic performance of sasha baron cohen. I do believe that there were some parts of the movie that could have gone in a different direction, which I believe would have made the film hugo a much richer, deeper emotional experience. for example, the mechanical doll which was the focal point of the entire movie, never carried any real message at all. And the doll never had any real relationship to the boys father, which was anticlimactic.

The movie is the best I've seen all year. Asa Butterfield (Hugo) is one of the greatest young actors I've seen. I loved the plot and everything about this movie. Also, that two actors from Harry Potter and one from Lord of the Rings were in it!
