  • No guys they should not ban the sports because it is our life life im gymnast i broke my foot 3 times and my rist its just what we do for a living

  • They should ban the sport

  • @outlawzzz187 Then they should ban about 70% of the sports cause every sport has its risks, and there are tragedies in the history of the majority of the sport. And about Christy Henrich, @beautifulsarah100 it's unfair to blame her. Anorexia is not a decision you make, it's an illness, and about an ilness you can never say that it's the patient's fault. But I would not consider the judge to be the person who killed her, I'm sure he could not imagine what would happen to her.

  • Did Muhkinas coach get investigated??

  • This is not sport for this poor girls,,this is the hell

  • @beautifulsarah100 You are absolutely right. It is possible to recover from anorexia. It is difficult- you don't want to eat, food tastes awful, you feel weak for "giving into" eating...but some people do find the willpower to get over it. Gymnastics is a breeding ground for anorexia, though- so many girls only want to please.

  • Messed up.

If the judge told me I was fat, I would've said, bitch you're fat stfu xD

  • I don't agree with people blaming christy, people have a tendency to blame the victim of every situation. Think about it. Words can trigger the most horrible things. It is not her fault, unless you are a gymnast in the olympics i suggest you be quiet because we have no idea what is expected from them.

  • @CinRandom I agree with you 100% I was told fat by a lot of members of my family as a child, and I believed them, looking at pics, I now know I wasn't fat at all. I never got anorexic, but I did used to feel bad about eating. I mean, ppl should save their comments to themselves.

  • 2:20 I remember her. I was only nine years old but I really remember her!

  • This video left me with no words. The music fits those tragedies very well a sad but great video. :(

  • at lest they death and have an honor.

  • o_________o...

  • so sad ...

  • Hopefully the 70´s 80´s way of training is no more, as a teacher, we concern trainers to make people with awesome capacities and not Super Athlets of 12 years old, and we stop a lot the Abuse and non Racional way of training so a lot of accidents never happent, but some are inevitable still, cause al activity has his own risks, but is our job make them minimal. If u love gyms dont forget enjoy it cause is the most important thing. Gratz from Argentina, and sorry my poor english

  • I think the coaches made her like when you are training you most likely be living in the gym. So the coaches gave her less food and other things probaly.

  • they are my true heroes...

  • is it just me or does 0:50 to 0:52 look really cool.

maybe it was a mistake but it actually looked nice :D

  • shit happens

  • I meantvto say is she still alive

  • Is sang LAN sit

  • Calling someone fat does NOT make you anorexic! The anorexic must surely already have a predisposition towards self-harm,or we'd all have problems.I'm not unsympathetic to anyone with an eating disorder,of course it must be hellish. But to say one person's ill-advised comment is to blame seems somewhat disingenuous.

  • From what I understand Yelena had hurt her leg, which wasn't properly healed yet, but she was being pushed and pushed and pushed to get the Salto right.

  • @talkative12 quadriplegic is paralyzed from the neck down thats what happen to yelena sang LAN was only paralyzed from the waist down..(:

  • Why this video didnt show how the accident happen???

  • @youngmil28 You really want to see that?

  • @ShawnVikaKomova2012 Yes... The reason i click this video is that i thought they would show accident happen... Do you have any video???

  • @youngmil28 No. There is no video of the actual accident. There is a video of her being put into the gurney somewhere. I would never want to see the accident! That's so depressing and I find it really offensive to Sang.

  • Henrich and Gomez were both members of the same gymand had the same trainer. It should be noted that following Christy's death there were reviewss made in the gymnastics world to help prevent such things happeneing again.

  • This won't be a popular comment but it's true: the judge didn't do anything to Christy. She made her decision to do what she did. There was influence, but in the end, it was her choice. She could have chosen to not react that way to the judge's remark. It's sad that she died, but any expert on anorexia will tell you that the girl is responsible for her own behavior - like we all are.

  • @beautifulsarah100 I see what you mean, but honestly the decision about whether to listen or not highly depends on maturity and many other factors. Having struggled myself with weight, bulimia and anorexia in my teenage years, I don't think it is so straight cut but appreciate you see it differently.

  • @beautifulsarah100 I'm so ver interested if you have ever competed or coached the sport of gymnastics? Girl hit thier prime just about the same time they are going through puberty. I taught competive gymnastic for 7 years..and I know these young ladies have enough insecurities..A good coach should not add to that psychological/ emotional pressure!

  • @any12u I haven't coached or competed, but I know the sport. I write a website about it. And I know anorexia a LOT better than I know gymnastics, because I have competed in that sport for years. I understand their insecurities and emotional issues. All I'm saying is, Christy always had a choice. I think the seed of anorexia was in her way before the judge said that to her. I'm not saying he should have said it, but we can't hold him responsible for a death.

  • @beautifulsarah100

And the judge gets off scott free? Anorexia is not always self-induced and blaming the victims isn't going to make things better.

  • @beautifulsarah100 How horribly wrong you are. People like you disgust me. I have had a family member and close friend suffer anorexia, and I can tell you it is by no means a choice. Anorexia is a mental illness, with physical symptoms. No one who gets it can prevent it. They can try as hard as they can to fight it, but once it is implanted, it is there to stay. It is the gymnastics worlds fault she had anorexia, no matter how hard she tried, her mind was wired the way it was.

  • @beautifulsarah100 you are so wrong :| people influenced eventually develops a disorder in any grade, so if you bully anybody, and that person cuts himself..is his fault? because it was his own decision? it was his chose? And i tell you this 'cause I've seen a lot of that, and people always washes its hands.

  • what was the move on the uneven bars called at 0:49?

  • 4 storys very very sad...4 littles godness!!

  • Julissa Gomez died when one foot missed the springboard during a yurchenko vault, something that barely any gymnasts could do back then, and her head smashed into the vault... its so sad

  • I can't imagin how bad the judge that told Christ Henrich she needed to lose weight feels. I mean now she has to live with knowing that she practically killed someone

  • Seriously..Why was the Thomas Salto even invented?! It's so dangerous and the slightest mistake was obviously going to end up seriously damaging the gymnast that was attempting it. Im so glad it was banned..! :/

  • @DYGymnast It's only banned in female competitions because girls or women do not have the same level of strength to pull it off safely. Under-rotation results in landing on the chin, and over-rotation results in landing on the top of the head, both are potentially fatal because the spine is snapped.

  • @DYGymnast Kurt Thomas, one of the best gymnasts in the 80's - the thomas flair... he did it all....

and he was really cute tooo.

  • never the les, 0:48 is a cool trick!

  • I read a book called little girls in pretty boxes and it had 13 or so pages on julisa gomez and it said her coach pushed her to do a vault that she had only landed once before.

  • that judge should be fired.... she's not even near fat... she has a fit and healthy body, that every girl should have!!!

  • @lcha1 The gymnast actually looked a heck of a lot healthier than the gymnasts today.

  • So what's the difference in being paralyzed from the chest down and quadriplegic because if the Chinese girl had ended up quadriplegic, wouldn't the narration have said so since it was the term used for what happened to Yelena Mukhina? I may sound dumb also but I was just curious if the same thing befell BOTH gymnasts. Thanks to whomever answers my question in advance.

  • December 22, 2010. You left us on a day like today four years ago. Life deprived us of an angel that walked the earth and showed us how acrobatics are performed in heavens. In this cruel world of today, where pointing the finger and blaming others is the norm, your courage, humbleness and stoicism should will forever guide us through the path that leads to becoming better human beings. Your legacy and love for the sport will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace always, Beautiful Queen!

  • i clicked on this expecting to laugh at some funny accidents. now im sat hear with tears in my eyes -_-

  • What is the name of the piece? I have just learned that Raúl Di Blasio is a pianist from my country, Argentina : P.

  • This is a very powerful video. While gymnastics is a beautiful sport to watch, we sometimes forget just how dangerous it can be. And the fact that a lot of these girls are so young...it makes injuries like this even sadder.

  • 1:38 I would feel extremely guilty if I was that judge.

  • I feel sorry for the judge too.. You've got to look at the other side. I feel horrible for the girl.. But guilt is powerful.. Just think about how bad you feel when you do somethng little to hurt someone else.. The judge would feel that way.. Only a hundred times worse for his/her life.

  • @ZoeLovesYouLots yea i no wat u mean i say tht to ppl about n theyre like " uh why i hope she dies" :/

  • What Program do you use to make this montage i want to make one but not sure how to

  • hey whats the song called?

  • r.i.p

  • I'm a firefighter and we all go into burning buildings, no safety mats to catch us if we all through a floor, no visibility to see where we are going. Look at head/spinal injury to pro hockey players hit from behind, pushed head first into the boards? Every sport has it's risks. At least in gymnastics you're not worrying about external factors beyond your control coming into play. I fully appreciate this video. Any loss of human life is tragic but we can't run & hide. Risk is a fact of life.

  • You can die from tripping on the stairs or playing soccer and stuff we do everyday. No matter how much we try to prevent crap from happening, it happens. So instead of saying who's fault it is, people need to move on and hope for a better future. Gymnastics is just like any other sport, there are risks and it's your choice whether you choose to take them or hold back yourself in life.

  • @mrwhiskersss

I didn't know that tripping on stairs was a sport.

  • @Bluebelle9289 LMFAOOOOOO

  • This is so sad:(

  • why is the thomas salto banned? the next one: WHahahaa!!

  • damn, people don't realize just how dangerous this stuff is.

  • CAN SOMEONE help me out?? i just got a belly button piercing and a hip piercing..is it alright for me to go to practice or do i have to wait a bit?? i mean will it get tangled with the leotard??PLS HELP!!!!!!!

  • did you read "Little Girls In Pretty Boxes?" I think it's out of print now - probably because they didn't want the public to know what really goes on.....if you can get it, please read it!

  • What's doubly sad was that Julissa Gomez and Christy Henrich were best friends.

  • great video! extremely sad and scary

  • I know someone who is quadraplegic, but that happened because of a cheerleading tumbling accident. I feel so bad for all these people, they had to give up their dreams. But at least it happened when they were doing something they were really passionate for. =[

  • The 1st one died 1 day after my 10th birthday :( witch is very close to Christmas

  • This is the kind of stuff that makes me terrified to start gymnastics again. That and the fact that my parents cant afford it. :(

  • Thank you for showing them at their best.

  • 'Henrich died from anorexia which shows that starving yourself will never be the answer'. I agree, but if one of the *judges* tells a girl who didn't have a weight problem that she's fat, then what followed was a natural consequence! The coaches and judges have a lot to answer for, though I'm glad to see chunkier, stronger and, most importantly, OLDER gymnasts these days.

  • @NdanteAllegro Personally, I think if a judge makes a negative comment about a gymnasts weight, they should be banned from judging-period.

  • @jfluter Stop blaming someone's poor choice on someone else. Idiot.

  • @jfluter I agree. No judge has a right to tell a gymnast they're too fat. What happened to christy is a result of what happens when judges tell a gymnast who already feels they need to be the best..that theyre too fat.

  • That judge should go to jail.

  • You just think of the Dark Side of Sport. It's very Sad..

  • Gymnastics is a beautiful sport.

  • bet that judge felt really bad

  • The human body is not designed to do those things, gymnastics is unnatural!

  • @erasmusso unnatural is flying, the human body is designed to do just these sorts of things

  • @KidFonz1 Flying is impossible, our body is designed to run and jump, gymnastics is a huge exaggeration of these things.

  • @erasmusso exactly my point. but saying its unnatural isnt really correct either, just sayin

  • @erasmusso and the body really is designed to run and jump to this extent. the body is not however designed to withstand the freak accidents that sometimes occur.

  • @KidFonz1 I have nothing against these girls, but gymnastics is like riding a motorcycle at 120 mph. A tiny mistake means great consequences.

  • what a lost too the future games without them all may you 'll rest in peace !!!!

  • OMG she died on the next day AFTER christmas OMG i feel well sad

  • aaaaawwww thats so sad imma cry =(

  • Sang lan died didn't she

  • @cheekycatlover47 No, She didn't...

  • @Azuka91 she still alive but paralized ok i hope she gets better

  • @cheekycatlover47 Yes! This is an amanzing sport, but really dangerous...

  • How cruel to live with the memories of all that you were and could have been. Sang Lang I hope you do recover, and then at least some tiny part of the cruelty can be put right.

To you who haven't been hurt so badly God bless and fly high and safe landing.

  • the music sucks. If it was AMerica Fuck Yeah, this video would be better.

  • Gymnastics is the greatest sport in the world, but it is also very dangerous. It's a miracle more girls haven't been killed or crippled. This is why, at least in countries like Romania and Russia, who understand the truth, training is brutal. There is no room for error or being lazy or being physically weak, because that can mean death. I'm so sorry for all who have been hurt or killed.

  • Hey uhh I once saw this gymnastics montage and it gave the name and what happened to the gymnast and i've been looking for t but can't remember the name of it to save my life. If anyone knows what it was, lemme know. Thnx.

  • @ecwells98 its called gymnastics montage:not always happy endings

  • @swimmingtheaterfreak Thnx sooo much!

  • poor gymnast, rest in peace

  • its sad that chritsty henrich died because of a stupid judge

  • @FoxyPrincess It is caused by damage to the brain or the spinal cord.

  • beautiful, talanted girls

  • they all had a lot of talent in what they did, its beyond a shame that they died so young.

    RIP girls, Im sorry.

  • that judge was crazy ,muscles daaaaa!!!!!!

  • Sang Lan is doing good now, shez enjoying her life and finishing her degree in Peking U

  • These girls were incredible. wow...

  • @UndercoverCracker, yeah they were and they should still be incredible to this day.

  • awesome video, awesome song, awesome footage, made me cry!!

  • I want to see the vault when it happened.

  • i hope that judge feels terrible about telling poor christy she was fat.. thats the most insensitive thing and then she died of anorexia...

  • julissa gomez was my coach, chelle stack's, best friend. she told us that the parents wouldnt let her see julissa before she died becase they wanted to have chelle remember her as a happy person, and not as a person not being able to say anything, or do anything for herself.

  • good book "pretty girls in little boxes", mentions julissa & christy. sad but true.

  • @Debilielis are you sick or what?

  • Well, i've been dancing for 8 years and every know and then i hurt myself, but i also do gymnastics. I almost broke my ankle at gym and broke my finger and many muscels at dancing.

Srry about the spellin, i'm in a bit of a rush

  • Christy Henrich died on my birthday the year after I was born. My mom actually went to the same high school as her, but thye wern't in the same grade. My mom's friend's husband's brother was engaged to her when she died. She is was incredible gymnast and was clearly not fat by any means. I hope that judge as well as Al Fong have terrible guilt from what they caused this girl. RIP Christy Henrich. God bless.

  • Dude, I am in gymnastics. I can see why the skill is banned. 18-25? Shit thats young.

  • I think most serious gymnasts know the risks and are prepared for any consquences if any. Like dancers which is why most give up in their late twenties. but I have had to quit pointe (ballet dancers dancing on the end of your toes.) because I was spaining both arches (part of foot that doesn't touch the ground)every week

  • The most cruel happened to Chriisty Henrich. If i was her mom i will sue that judge or at least report him to dismiss him from judging gimnast. He had no ethics at all.

  • this is horibble

  • that is like saying cheerleading and dancing and yet even baseball should be banned because of the injuries.

many football players have gone into a coma from head injuries,.

many dancers have had knee injuries which have left them unable to walk

and cheerleaders get bad ankles and wrists not to mention throats. I guess we should also ban massage therapy because some therapists in that develop paralysis of the thumbs and wrists from working too hard lets just ban everything!

  • @flirtyfruity I find that Gymnastics is more dangerous and require much more skill - especially american football where all the athletes do is bang into each other. Cheerleader and dancers may suffer severe injuries, but somehow when you see a gymnast practice their routine....cheerleading and dancing just do not measure up. I'm not saying that they are an inferior sport, just that injuries in gymnastics are much more severe. And gymnastics seem to be a more difficult art to master.

  • @MsEmberScorpio That's totally trut!!! Gymnastic is really difficul and danger, but is also amanzing, instead cheerleader and dancer are......

  • @MsEmberScorpio Actually, Gymnastics is no more dangerous than any other sport 'if' you remove trampoline from the statistics. Due to several factors, trampoline is dangerous and should never be used at a residential home.

  • @MsEmberScorpio

Cheerleading is actually much more dangerous than gymnastics are.

  • @flirtyfruity what she is trying to say with banned moves is that they retire them from gymnastics because of how dangerous and or hazardous to the health it can be. you don't see ass much injuries in other sports.

  • @flirtyfruity

    Think of it this way:

There are speed limits on roads to prevent an overabundance of risk and danger to those driving a car.Gymnastics skills that a considered too risky and too dangerous are limited to protect participants from paralysis. Banned skills are banned for a reason, because they are notorious for causing injury, just like it is unallowable to hit from behind in hockey. There is no need to become so insensitive.

  • What does quadraplegic mean? Sorry if I sound stupid.

  • That you can only move your head, you can't move, arms, legs, or hands.

  • @isa1285 Quad is short for '4'. You have four limbs and you can not move any of the four limbs. I believe the break is some where around T5 or T6? I've been out of gymnastics for over twenty years and my memory is ?

  • @foxyprimcess321No u dont sound stupid

  • @FoxyPrincess321 quad means 4 so all limbs except head cannot move

  • @FoxyPrincess321 Why don't you just google it like everyone else instead of asking dumb questions here? Holy Feck...

  • @FoxyPrincess321 You don't sound stupid. No question is EVER stupid. :)

  • @FoxyPrincess321 plegic is paralyzed quadra is four... so two upper and two lower limp paralization

  • I wonder why it took so long to ban the Thomas salto. Perhaps it should also be banned for men. Thank you for the montage.

  • Thanks for makin this vid, it really touched me. Lot of people think that gymnnastics is for people with no lives and they dont give a damn. But now that i and everyone watchin this vid knows that it takes alot of gut to do this sport. And for people that dont give a shit at least respect them. becouse ,well ,the point is people like this put a lot of hope and faith in wat they do then to have it ripped out of there soul and for all those people that has gone through the same tradedy.Respect it.

  • thnaks you gave me herat in what im about to start .see this is a natsy place full of loud mouhted scum bags cruel jealous see the world has gone to the shits of despair lets get rid of the crap its just growing like a cnacer all over the planet.big brother are you no family of mine .see q this is what happens when scum start their shit.get reayd everyoen we aint going ot go on wiht any of this crap.disgusting.

  • this made me cry:`(

  • i think it was sad that Julissa died because of a DOCTORS mistake and not her own. hitting the vault would've been the thing to kill her except that it was the people that we trust with our lives that killed her.

  • Uncalled for! I regret hearing about such a loss, but from time to time mistakes are made even by the best of professionals. Doctors, the people that SAVE our lives, deserve better than what you wrote here. Yes, it is unfortunate that her death was preventable and the result was addressed. Still, branding doctors as killers is classless and unneeded.

  • @theWall0719

Branding ALL doctors as killers is classless and unneeded. Branding the few doctors who were negligent as killers is not classless and unneeded. When you are a doctor you are responsibe for someone's life if they are in your care. If you make a mistake and that person's life is lost, you deserve to get called out for it.

  • By the way, Elena Muknina was operated too late. It is said that this is the main reason why she was paralyzed. ((

  • yelena always looked sad, even before she was paralyzed.

  • @noella7777 There is a video on youtube about her where it said how much she hated the pressure put on her to do gymnastics. Her initial thoughts after the accident was relief that she wouldn't be going to the Olympics.

  • Comment removed

  • The judge isnt guilty. Thats retarded. Its not his fault the lady made a seriously poor decision ignoring every signal her body was shutting down. Every bit of pain that went along with it. He wasnt there taking her plate away.

People are responsible for their own actions

  • yeah it is partially the judges faukt and she was used to pain because of gymnastics

  • you don't really know how a mental disorder works do you?

  • Mental disorder or not, the judge in no way shape or form was doing anything to keep a plate of food away from her. If anyone is to blame its the people close to her for not making sure she ate. That judge probably never even saw her again

  • @slb785

The judge was an idiot and they have to live with what they said to that girl for the rest of their life.

  • @slb785 I totally disagree with you

    we dont live alone

That horrible judge is guilty , its like someone raped some other and then this one commit suicide so u blame the suicidal as its his fault and that the rapist isnt guilty of his death !!!!!!

  • @slb785

"People are responsible for their own actions"

Not in all cases. Also, her family and coach could have done something to help her. You're basically implying that if someone is starving themself to death because of emotional pressure and other psychological issues we should just let them do it because it's allegedly "their decision" and we shouldn't help them. Before you blame anorexics for their illnesses and deaths, you should do a little research on human psychology.

  • When people think of gymnastics & cheerleading they think of cute girls that are like princesses in fairy tales. In reality gymnasts & cheerleaders have more injuries that any macho tough guy athletes.

  • that judge must feel guilty, that was just really sad

  • If you mean the judge that told the girl she was too fat & she ended up dying of annorexia. That judge most lkely doesn't give a fuck. Some of these ppl have NO concept of life or feelings or ANYTHING.

  • This isn't fun, I just wanna see the accidents.

  • Stupid judge! She should have been blown away by the extent of her muscles that made her the gymnast that she was!

It's so sad that they die..(d)

  • omg that was horrible bout when the judges called her fat

  • Such grace and pain.

  • SAng Lan is actually (I think) a success story. She currently lives a full life. She has regained some use of her arms and hands, is a student at Peking University, was a torchbearer at the 2008 Olympics, and hopes to get her driver's license. Rumor has it that she was training to play table tennis at the 2008 Paralympics, but I haven't found confirmation of that.

  • @veevee305 this girl is a ROLE MODEL

    she is Amazing

  • Why was it all girls do men ever die from gymnastics?

  • @RMCthepoet well, think of it; girls are much more fragile than men. girls are thin and skinny while men are bulky and masculine. think of the chances; men probably have a 1 in a million chance because they are so bulky when when have a much much higher chance since they are thinner and can snap a bone by a smiple fall. take Yelena Mukhina for example. she tried to do a Thomas salto and she broke her spine. men do that all the time and not once did they get injured like Yelena.
