great gig in 1995, sweaty like hell in a theater in Stockholm Sweden, stood upfront, two meters from the stage, i remember jim looked amazed cos the crowd went nuts and almost drowned the band, so tech, guys had to raise the volume, it was a great night.
a band cant be compared to any other band then itself, talking about U2 and their experimentations, simple minds did their share of that early on.... i love both bands and hope they stay restless looking for new sounds...
This is one muscular album from beginning to end by a band that has the rare combination of big but not overproduced sound along with genuine soul - especially for white boys - actually some of which are among THE most soulful - not the most motown - just most soulful....and powerful
@uzickimajmunac that was not case int the Eighties, anyway.... Bono and jim are good friends, so there are no hard feelings there, blame the English press for putting down Simple Years instead... . they seem not like the group since Street fighting years and on.... up today...
Very good Album, i like this Band even more than U2, as a Scottish Band , sound and style in my oppinion they are even better than U2. Nothing personal to U2, but SMinds are better.
Has got to be one of the best sounding productions I've ever heard. Such a complex mix with tons of stuff going on, yet there's full clarity. And the bass : yummy... I'm off buying the CD (if I can find it).
Not sure about looking like Bill but I've always thought that Charlie Burchill & the aforementioned Mr Duffy have a lot of similairity in their playing. Obviously Bill is a bit more "rock" but a lot of their phrasing and guitar sounds/textures are quite alike. Both are vastly underrated great British guitarists.
best record on this album, i went to see them this tour at sheffield, got a tye dye t shirt 25 quid, i aint never throwin that away, cant wait for new album, only 2 weeks to go
This album is what bands like U2 fail to achieve when they experiment with new sounds. Love this album, I listen to it every now again which brings back some great memories of when I first discovered it back in 1995. Strong songs, great guitar riffs from Charlie and powerful vocals from Jim. Good News From The Next World rocks!!
totally agree with A Skywalker1 ! j'm also a U2 fan,but if this song was made by U2 probably it should reached the top ten chart! and the media should said ,great riff by the edge!!
I certainly don't think this is their best album. Far from it. Slightly too bombastic n' slick production. However, it contains some really strong songs n' this is probably the best one. It really soars like a kite at the climax of the song. Other tracks worthy of mention here are: 'Hypnotised', 'And The Band Played On' and 'Criminal World'.
Ive owned this album since it came out and always loved it.I put it on while driving recently after not hearing it for years and can safely say I think it is by far their best album! It rocks from start to finish!
like the song partly, but I'd have to say: a literal cross between Book of Brilliant Things(chorus) & of course the chords from Theme for great cities.
Don't get me wrong, like the band & they've inluenced lots of bands, but sadly enough also themselves.
There is no second New Gold Dream. thank goodness...
Almost every song on this album (Good News From The Next World) is a hit. Even the couple "non-hits" are still beautiful. One of my favorite albums of all time, and I listen to diverse genres of music. This is a classic, and should be a part of every collection.

The Minds freely admit to re-using old riffs and melodies-its called experimentation. They are the best band in the world!

love it so much... would make a good opener as well... absolute darkness at the start with just charlie playing and lights on at 0:09 .... wow!

Classic stuff and no Britpop for the Minds. One of the best of their 90's tunes.
