Dusan- I think you did great job with your Aikido demonstration here. You disarmed your assailant without hurting or killing him. And out on the street no matter where you are your expected to survive if attacked with any kind of weapon be it a knife or anything else that's presented. So all I can sir, is keep up the good work, and keep on inspiring kids to take up this art called Aikido that O'Sensei started years ago. Because no matter what others say, I think your doing a great job.
i don't see at as going out of its way to be brutal. all vracarevic did was take aikido techniques and tweak them a little to make them more useful for street fight situations like knife attacks and attacks with other weapons. the use of force and aggression is inevitable if one expects to get a knife out of someone's hand. If you use aikido techniques on someone who doesn't see the throws coming, and doesn't know how to properly break the fall then they could very possibly get seriously injured
...some elements of aikido are quite effective if used in combination with other martial arts... but this video is very misleading... the techniques used here for knife defense are total useless... nobody would attack like this in a real knife confrontation... come on... get real... knife fighting in reality is not something as seen in the movies (or in this video)... if you tried to use this moves even on a complete moron you would get stabbed horribly...

Slauterhaus, if you're smart, you should be running in the opposite direction of these 2 knives. You might come out alive. Or do you maybe prefer "I went down karate'ing" on your gravestone?
Rubbish!! The techniques are done so damn fast your right arm would be broken before you could even think of striking with your left. You don't know what the hell you're talking about. One things for sure - you've never had a wrist lock put on you by a well trained aikidoka. If you had you'd drop the knife in you left hand and bang it on the floor screaming!!!
1. Then you only achieved a very low level of knowledge and compitency at a very technical martial art and cannot be considered an authority on it at all. If you had got anywhere near black belt you would have done more advanced weapons attacks that include such attacks.
2. Ad hominems cannot win a debate I'm afraid to tell you even though they may make you feel better.
I can see why "Real Aikido" was created... but it isn't Aikido in the evolved form O'Sensei created. Yes, at one time O'sensei's Aikido was very "Martial" like this, but like I have read else where.. this is more Aiki-jujitsu...
It is graceful and powerful, but not the principles of O'sensei's Aikido.
someone, who practised martial art for years, please advise me, which one is the best, karate, shaolin kung fu, taikvando, wushu aikido or jeet ku ne do of bruce lee.
At present I have been practising wushu, before this I have practised okinava binoryu karatedo for three years. I did not apply those kicks and punches even when I am in street fight. To say frankly, just because ;of my inner fear I did not fight well or just like a ordinary men. Advise me please, give me some suggessions kindly
Knowing all the techniques in the world cannot give you the confidence to strike someone in a real situation. That is why I say it is not the art but the instructor that is important. When you train make it real in your mind and still maintain control. If you have a hesitation about striking someone perhaps an art like aikido would be more to your liking. I have used aikido technique in many situations and found it to be very effective despite what critics say about aikido.
I am a beginner to aikido, a slight beginner in hapkido.. but am familiar with fighting.. and I say the SAME thing.. aikido has extraordinary use in a dangerous situation, given the right instructor.. I'm not at all shy about fighting in necesscary, so I definitely see it as being more than applicable.. too many people see the grace in the art, instead of the actual application that can be carried out.. it's sad.
AKA: "try anything that isn't Asian". If you're racist, try having the balls to say so.
The founder of Aikido was in search for the true essence of Budo that had been disappearing during the turn of the century and due to U.S. occupation after world war two.
The techniques in this video are scientifically proven simply by the anatomy and mechanics of the arm.
the argument about Aikido VS. MMA is silly. One is art, the other is sport. Allow knives in the UFC and then we'll talk.
The heck? I simply suggested boxing because it's something where you simply can't get away from hitting another person and being hit in return. Muay Thai kickboxing would possibly be even better.
JKD is the only one you mentioned that was designed for street fighting as it's number one priority. Karate seems to be creating many students with ego's, especially in the west. Karate also isn't worth dick unless you adapt it for street fighting. Same goes for the others.
O Sensei would've shut Vracarevic's schools down in a heartbeat. I don't know why Doshu hasn't already, it completely goes against aikido, and to be a 10th dan as Vracarevic claims is absurd
@Lillymill actually, yes traditionalism does matter, because it's a dieing thing in the martial arts. Aikido is one of the last traditional arts in the world
@KurtCobain198666 Completely agree. They fucked up judo already. It's still possible to practice traditional judo, but those schools are very rare and only on isolated islands in Japan.
@FearThisChannel yes! i've studied karate, aikido, jkd, and judo. In my karate school most people were part of the England Karate Team and practiced to compete, same goes for judo. JKD was never s'posed to be traditional so not going to complain about that, but what makes aikido good is that it's usually very strict and practiced traditionally
@KurtCobain198666 Precisly. I want to go to Japan for a while (and I'm seriously planning for that) to study Karate arts (both Okinawan and Japanese styles) in their traditional form. The same goes for Judo.
By the way, is Sumo considered a Budo art these days. I read in "Comprehense Asian Fighting Arts" that Sumo is not officially a Budo art, even though some consider it to be one.
@KurtCobain198666 Another art left completely untouched is Aikibudo (Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu with some adaptions by Yoseikan Aikido + Katori Shinto Ryu = Aikibudo), which I practice. It's not very well known, but it gains popularity.
@FearThisChannel aikibudo wasnt adapted by yoseikan aikido. The way you've made that sound is Yoseikan adapted aikijujutsu, katori, and aikido and created aikibudo. Aikibudo was created by Ueshiba, and was around long before Yoseikan. Yoseikan was created in 1931, aikibudo was around in the '20s. First, aikijujutsu >aikibudo> then aikido. Then came the branches of aikido (in order) Yoseikan (1931) Manseikan (1954) Yoshinkan (1955) Shodokan (1967) Shin Shin Toitsu/Ki Aikido (1971)
@KurtCobain198666 You misunderstand what I'm saying. Daito Ryu was Aikibudo first, but it developed under the influence of Yoseikan. Floquet, the leading figure of Aikibudo in Europe, is a student of Mochizuki, that's why Aikibudo became the way it is now.
P.S. You either didn't know that Aikibudo wasn't created by Ueshiba, or you accidentally typed that.
@Lillymill We cannot allow it to let all Budo principles that make Budo what Budo is go to waste. If we keep on adapting this, Budo will become Bujutsu again, and that's not how it was meant.
@FearThisChannel you mean Bujustu will become Budo, since Bujutsu was around first. Martial arts created before the Meiji Restoration are often called koryū bujutsu which translates to old style martial art/science. Modern martial arts created during or after the Meiji Restoration are called gendai budō, (literally, "modern martial way"). Gendai budō such as "judo", "kendo" and "iaido" came from koryū bujutsu such as "jujutsu". And by the way, aikido is a modern art, not ancient
@KurtCobain198666 I know. But BUDO means "the way of the warrior" it's more than simply Bujutsu/Bugei. If we drop all the principles that make a Budo art such as Aikido, it would become a Bugei/Bujutsu again = aiki - jujutsu. Still, new Ninjutsu styles that came after the Meiji Restoration are not Budo, unless you've ever heard about Nindo.
@Lillymill There won't be a 'new kind of Budo' in the future, because then it wouldn't be as it was meant by those who created the art. If we stick to the principles that are given to us, we can preserve the art. If that doesn't please you, sorry kid but then you should've chosen something like Thai Boxing or MMA. If people make up new systems like PROTECTO, it will not be a Budo art anymore, just another SD system. Budo = budo.
@FearThisChannel I see what your saying, but this 'stick with what they gave us' rarely follows the attitude of the founder. It's like some of the higher ups in Isshinryu telling there members that they shouldn't train in other arts, they should just focus on mastering isshinryu. But the founder studied in, at the very least, five arts before developing his own. Two of the arts he studied were also amalgamations of multiple martial arts. These guys studied many arts, why shouldn't we?
@brian7893 the point of aikido is that it's not brutal. The highest level of aikido, according to it's founder, was to neutralise the attack without seriously injuring the attacker. This system goes out of it's way to cause damage, so by the definition of what Ueshiba said aikido is, this ISN'T aikido. This isn' a new style, it's almot identical to aikijujutsu. The attacks are why people call aikido unrealistic, not the techniques, so if they want people to think this is REAL, change the attacks
im sorry but a street thug isnt going to attack me with a long telegraphed arching of the arm he's to to use short very fast jabbing motions to the torso area. i've not seen aikido deal with that situation. i'm not saying a practioner of aikido couldn't repel that i've just not seen it.
I'm sorry but this demonstration got nothing to do with aikido. nice techniques tough , but this is everything O-sensei didnt want in aikido. to call this "real aikido" is a joke.
aikido, only practical when you MASTER it, otherwise... you dont really have much. many other codes however, someone mediocre has something to use. my impression anyways
When these guys can show me that they can use their techniques against someone who can use a knife I'll be impressed. And I've trained aikido for 10 years.
dude... did her really kick the guys knife hand at about 1:55 ? if so .. that awsome !!!.. useless but awsome!!! I praciticed Aikido for years and was tired of it being impractical, however it is a beautiful art.
thought i also suggest do learn something like kung fu (and not only judo,aikido,...) because sometimes you need to KO your opponent and not just hold him on the ground...
no i havent, but really i'm not looking forward to such an "oportunity"... as all more or less expiriensed people say: don't fight unless you don't have any other choise (your opponent might have more sirious weapons then you do:p) but i think the more practical moves are ones which alow you to cause sudden pain (but not injury) to your opponent, which will decrease his will to fight...
the most practical techniques are irimi nage, koeshi guruma, kotegaeshi, shiho nage and ippon seoi nage. but you need to be very good in aikiod in order to use it on the streets which means 1st dan and up, at least thats my opnion, you're free to share thoughts and thank you
and the most useful ones, i train in karate as well and i have 1st dan in aikido, sometimes when i spare with some karatekas i can easily dodge attacks and then i use an aikido technique, but i use atemis most of the times
You do realize that every arm lock you see in this vid could easily end up as a dislocated shoulder, broken elbow, broken wrist or a combination of two or more of these? Aikido works if the right person is applying it.
I tebi sve najbolje.
Nije moguce! Svako dobro ti zelim.
Man, that video brought back some great memories. If you looked through the windows on the opposite wall (than the one shown), you would see my old house. I trained under him for about a year before leaving the country, great memories, great man, great family....and the craziest pet dog...:-)
This simply Aikido reverting back to it's jujutsu roots, although weak technique if you ask me. It's sad that everyone must come up with their own version of their art and claim it as their own, the truth lies on the origin.
lol yea cuz when i wanna stab someone i take a baseball like back swing and then stab him this guy would be stabbed like 45 times by the time he pulls something on me like that and how about a gun wat he gona pull matrix shit this martial arts bullshit dont work in real life good cardio tho
I doubt it. Those techniques were fast enough to be used against a stab.
And the hell does a gun have to do with this? In fact from that distance, it's easy as hell to defend yourself against a gun. Guns are normally used from a distance of few meters.
go back to school and learn some proper english idiot. your just a street rat who probably gets his from ganging up on other people with the other 10 of your hoodlum friends.
too dangerous, he has no respect of a sharp knife. he would hurt himself. it's good for training, but in a real situation applying ikkyo or sankyo that way, you can forget, but the techniques are nice and powerful.
whats funny about some of the responses below is even after all these years and after Bruce Lee came in and gave everyone the smack down showing that there is no 1 superior style people still just don't get it. And if you refuse to learn from other martial artists mistakes of the past then YOU will repeat them. Aikido is real and effective but you need to train in other arts as well.
Man, I'm happy as hell to see someone else say that, Agile! I can't believe all the idiots who seem to think training in some martial art is like picking a religion- sing the praises, sound like idiots, absolute loyalty, etc.
Aikido is more esoteric than practical -- It's not humility that keep the aikido practioners out of the UFC. I train at a fairly high level Aikido instructors school (rent space) and he takes defensive tactics lessons from me, because he knows this stuff only works against drunks. O-sensei was a stud who punched trees in the snow and fought a lot in his youth A small change in training application and sparring intent would up your game by 300%, no risk of injury
Just look at 2:48! What is there more to say? Please answer me : would you *really* do that? And this guy that keeps deleting my posts in other Real Aikido videos is insecure in himself because he has no good responses!
AlekTricity..i would like to see some of your video .. you speak like "real" specialist for martila arts ... please inlight me with your presentation ...enough of talking
Look, this is terrible - that's about all you need to know. If this were ever to be applied in real life, it would end in a rape (at the least). I feel comfortable in my martial arts, so I have no need to post utter non-sence like this video.
So, in other words, you're just some BJJ masturbator who does nothing but talk smack that he can't back up? NICE! It's not like we have enough of those!
I am not attacking anyone's style, everyone has a right to defend it. But as I said in a previous RA thread, unless your opponent is wearing Rollerblades, this will not function. You want an effective martial art developed in Serbia? See Kyokushinjutsu.
Well, it's not an official Aikido style and I think the name has been chosen just to make it popular. I've practiced Judo and now practicing Yoshinkan Aikido recognizing some techniques in it. This style is really real, but I agree with you it's not an aikido style.
Ovi mi znace a sta ostali misle bas me briga.
P.S.
Ovi klinci imaju najmanje 10 god treniranja iza sebe...
very nice

I can see why "Real Aikido" was created... but it isn't Aikido in the evolved form O'Sensei created. Yes, at one time O'sensei's Aikido was very "Martial" like this, but like I have read else where.. this is more Aiki-jujitsu...
It is graceful and powerful, but not the principles of O'sensei's Aikido.
Read O'Sensei's biography for a reference.
Nice demostration. Good Luck.

None are better than the other. It all depends on what you're interested in and the quality of the instructor. All have valid applications.
aikinut1 3 years ago
At present I have been practising wushu, before this I have practised okinava binoryu karatedo for three years. I did not apply those kicks and punches even when I am in street fight. To say frankly, just because ;of my inner fear I did not fight well or just like a ordinary men. Advise me please, give me some suggessions kindly
sunibhanu 3 years ago
Knowing all the techniques in the world cannot give you the confidence to strike someone in a real situation. That is why I say it is not the art but the instructor that is important. When you train make it real in your mind and still maintain control. If you have a hesitation about striking someone perhaps an art like aikido would be more to your liking. I have used aikido technique in many situations and found it to be very effective despite what critics say about aikido.
aikinut1 3 years ago
I am a beginner to aikido, a slight beginner in hapkido.. but am familiar with fighting.. and I say the SAME thing.. aikido has extraordinary use in a dangerous situation, given the right instructor.. I'm not at all shy about fighting in necesscary, so I definitely see it as being more than applicable.. too many people see the grace in the art, instead of the actual application that can be carried out.. it's sad.

Try boxing.
comicsan 3 years ago
AKA: "try anything that isn't Asian". If you're racist, try having the balls to say so.
The founder of Aikido was in search for the true essence of Budo that had been disappearing during the turn of the century and due to U.S. occupation after world war two.
The techniques in this video are scientifically proven simply by the anatomy and mechanics of the arm.
the argument about Aikido VS. MMA is silly. One is art, the other is sport. Allow knives in the UFC and then we'll talk.
johnniefive80 3 years ago 2

KurtCobain198666 2 years ago
I adapted the street to my Karate. It took a lot of planning permission and the neighbours were upset, but I'm really pleased with the end result.

O Sensei would've shut Vracarevic's schools down in a heartbeat. I don't know why Doshu hasn't already, it completely goes against aikido, and to be a 10th dan as Vracarevic claims is absurd

@KurtCobain198666
Does budo politics and devotion to traditionalism really matter that much?
Why would you waste your time on something you consider absurd?
Lillymill 1 year ago
@Lillymill actually, yes traditionalism does matter, because it's a dieing thing in the martial arts. Aikido is one of the last traditional arts in the world
KurtCobain198666 1 year ago
@KurtCobain198666
Don't get me wrong.
I share your appreciation for martial art traditions.
Although, I never was aikidoka, I used to be annoyed by Vracarevic's claim of reformed aikido myself.
Now I believe that both these traditional and... well... commercialized versions of budo have their place in the real world.
While traditionalism preserves significant heritage, modern variations give it back some of the lost edge.
If there wasn't for modernization, we would've never see any of it here..
Lillymill 1 year ago
@KurtCobain198666 Completely agree. They fucked up judo already. It's still possible to practice traditional judo, but those schools are very rare and only on isolated islands in Japan.
FearThisChannel 1 year ago
@FearThisChannel yes! i've studied karate, aikido, jkd, and judo. In my karate school most people were part of the England Karate Team and practiced to compete, same goes for judo. JKD was never s'posed to be traditional so not going to complain about that, but what makes aikido good is that it's usually very strict and practiced traditionally
KurtCobain198666 1 year ago
@KurtCobain198666 Precisly. I want to go to Japan for a while (and I'm seriously planning for that) to study Karate arts (both Okinawan and Japanese styles) in their traditional form. The same goes for Judo.
By the way, is Sumo considered a Budo art these days. I read in "Comprehense Asian Fighting Arts" that Sumo is not officially a Budo art, even though some consider it to be one.
FearThisChannel 1 year ago
@KurtCobain198666 Another art left completely untouched is Aikibudo (Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu with some adaptions by Yoseikan Aikido + Katori Shinto Ryu = Aikibudo), which I practice. It's not very well known, but it gains popularity.
FearThisChannel 1 year ago
KurtCobain198666 1 year ago
@KurtCobain198666 You misunderstand what I'm saying. Daito Ryu was Aikibudo first, but it developed under the influence of Yoseikan. Floquet, the leading figure of Aikibudo in Europe, is a student of Mochizuki, that's why Aikibudo became the way it is now.
P.S. You either didn't know that Aikibudo wasn't created by Ueshiba, or you accidentally typed that.
FearThisChannel 1 year ago
@FearThisChannel i didn't mistype and i'll send you a message with articles stating who created aiki budo
KurtCobain198666 1 year ago
@Lillymill We cannot allow it to let all Budo principles that make Budo what Budo is go to waste. If we keep on adapting this, Budo will become Bujutsu again, and that's not how it was meant.
FearThisChannel 1 year ago
@FearThisChannel you mean Bujustu will become Budo, since Bujutsu was around first. Martial arts created before the Meiji Restoration are often called koryū bujutsu which translates to old style martial art/science. Modern martial arts created during or after the Meiji Restoration are called gendai budō, (literally, "modern martial way"). Gendai budō such as "judo", "kendo" and "iaido" came from koryū bujutsu such as "jujutsu". And by the way, aikido is a modern art, not ancient
KurtCobain198666 1 year ago
@KurtCobain198666 I know. But BUDO means "the way of the warrior" it's more than simply Bujutsu/Bugei. If we drop all the principles that make a Budo art such as Aikido, it would become a Bugei/Bujutsu again = aiki - jujutsu. Still, new Ninjutsu styles that came after the Meiji Restoration are not Budo, unless you've ever heard about Nindo.
FearThisChannel 1 year ago
@FearThisChannel
I doubt that Budo can just disappear because different people are after different things in martial arts.
Or maybe it's just a phase that will bring new kind of Budo in the future. ;)
Lillymill 1 year ago
@Lillymill There won't be a 'new kind of Budo' in the future, because then it wouldn't be as it was meant by those who created the art. If we stick to the principles that are given to us, we can preserve the art. If that doesn't please you, sorry kid but then you should've chosen something like Thai Boxing or MMA. If people make up new systems like PROTECTO, it will not be a Budo art anymore, just another SD system. Budo = budo.
FearThisChannel 1 year ago
@FearThisChannel I see what your saying, but this 'stick with what they gave us' rarely follows the attitude of the founder. It's like some of the higher ups in Isshinryu telling there members that they shouldn't train in other arts, they should just focus on mastering isshinryu. But the founder studied in, at the very least, five arts before developing his own. Two of the arts he studied were also amalgamations of multiple martial arts. These guys studied many arts, why shouldn't we?

@KurtCobain198666 why, what's so bad about this system.
brian7893 10 months ago
@brian7893 the point of aikido is that it's not brutal. The highest level of aikido, according to it's founder, was to neutralise the attack without seriously injuring the attacker. This system goes out of it's way to cause damage, so by the definition of what Ueshiba said aikido is, this ISN'T aikido. This isn' a new style, it's almot identical to aikijujutsu. The attacks are why people call aikido unrealistic, not the techniques, so if they want people to think this is REAL, change the attacks
KurtCobain198666 10 months ago
im sorry but a street thug isnt going to attack me with a long telegraphed arching of the arm he's to to use short very fast jabbing motions to the torso area. i've not seen aikido deal with that situation. i'm not saying a practioner of aikido couldn't repel that i've just not seen it.

adelaideee 3 years ago
You've actually used in the streets? If so what particular move or what did you do to defend yourself?
kissoct666 3 years ago
no i havent, but really i'm not looking forward to such an "oportunity"... as all more or less expiriensed people say: don't fight unless you don't have any other choise (your opponent might have more sirious weapons then you do:p) but i think the more practical moves are ones which alow you to cause sudden pain (but not injury) to your opponent, which will decrease his will to fight...
please comment this, it's an interesting subject
AntonIceChill 3 years ago
the most practical techniques are irimi nage, koeshi guruma, kotegaeshi, shiho nage and ippon seoi nage. but you need to be very good in aikiod in order to use it on the streets which means 1st dan and up, at least thats my opnion, you're free to share thoughts and thank you
anas1025 3 years ago
well these techniques are surtainly the most common ones
AntonIceChill 3 years ago
and the most useful ones, i train in karate as well and i have 1st dan in aikido, sometimes when i spare with some karatekas i can easily dodge attacks and then i use an aikido technique, but i use atemis most of the times
anas1025 3 years ago 5
You do realize that every arm lock you see in this vid could easily end up as a dislocated shoulder, broken elbow, broken wrist or a combination of two or more of these? Aikido works if the right person is applying it.

I doubt it. Those techniques were fast enough to be used against a stab.
And the hell does a gun have to do with this? In fact from that distance, it's easy as hell to defend yourself against a gun. Guns are normally used from a distance of few meters.

whats funny about some of the responses below is even after all these years and after Bruce Lee came in and gave everyone the smack down showing that there is no 1 superior style people still just don't get it. And if you refuse to learn from other martial artists mistakes of the past then YOU will repeat them. Aikido is real and effective but you need to train in other arts as well.
