  • @ProManUnitedFan , O is others

  • I have left my server on for 365 days now and not one day when it's become slow, I would love to see any windows based platform be able to take that and one thing about it is CentOS is entirely free, all my software is 100% free for my server and never had any wishes to buy any software for Linux.

I even have Linux on a dual boot a workstation based LDAP login for Linux.

  • Why Linux is better than o? What's o?

  • Thanks for the vid. I'm sold.

  • Not all linux distros are stable!

I made my own linux distro once, and it chrashed so much i had to rename it to LagOS!

  • @mckt007 You should download some pre-made then, like Mint OS 10 which is pretty friendly and stable. I have made mine own also and they aren't very stable either. IBK most times. Good way of learning that it isn't easy to make all that complex machinery work [and why not] with no hitches... Linux is good for that, if you are like me, who like to learn by breaking things. [VritualBox etc are great for doing that sort of learnin']

    Peace!

  • I took a Linux class last semester in college...my Windows XP crashed last week and I couldn't recover ANYTHING. >< I installed Fedora on my (now dead) computer and it was a breeze. I did nothing and it provided me with everything that I needed! Screw Windows, I am NEVER going back to that bullshit!

  • I am most concerned if it can play windows games.

When you say recent, what is your definition of "recent"?

I have this game called "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" made long (over a decade ago) I must have it playable on my next computer as I love the game!

If I have this fixed, I may just switch to Linux.

  • @SuperKnowledgeSponge Have you heard of Wine? Wine allows you to run some games (not all) on Linux, that are meant to be on Windows.

  • @jsmith19810808081 Thanks for informing me! :)

  • @SuperKnowledgeSponge It's a pleasure have you got it working though?

You may have to tweak things with Wine I believe WoW will work on Linux using Wine though.

  • @SuperKnowledgeSponge I am developing my own Java chat using Linux now.

  • I love Linux but... Win7 to me has always been rock stable and just like your description of Linux, if a crash occurs, it's the fault of a program doing something wrong.

While I'm not against open source or FLOSS standards, I am against open source elitists that would pull guns out on any proprietary standard. Richard Stallman is borderline crazy.

I would much rather use free software than pirate anything, so agreed there. Much of the software I use are programs ported to Windows with GTK libs.

  • @InstinctualJealousy "...Against open source elitists...," eh?

You being ironic, right? OSS is for the common man. Nothing elitist about The Commons.

Few Nixers would, should or wish to hire propaganda [advertizing] so you will, of course, read, see and hear some Linux Bigotry, yep, but, who is paying for Linux, and FOSS, advertizing? NOBODY IS.

The effort that is put into selling something that, uh, really should be no-cost, astounds me. It is like being sold a bill.

Pay for apps, not an OS.

  • Oh, and also I can't play my favorite games on Linux :D

  • I don't get viruses on Windows, I wonder why...

I have uptimes of 8-20 days on my Windows machine, it reboots as often as my linux router

I did not pay for the license personally, so I use it "free"...

Everything else I agree with :)

  • @mrproper07 Not a fanboy- you're a winner in a thread of... well, not so much winners (wouldn't say losers though...).

  • Windows 7 is better , faster, not stabiler :))) but faster better it have better design and about ur fucking cube 3D on windows 7 u can download this Cube3D this is free !!!!!!

ALL OFFICE COMPUTERS HAVE WINDOWS XP STILL installed fcking stil omg

so. .. yeah dont reply me if u hate windows that means u never used windows 7

but if used that means u used w7 on pentium 2 and 300 mb ram AND 64 mb memmory xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD stfu bitches

windows will fck linux any day

  • @iron888888 I have used Win7 in all old hardware, requisite hardware, recommend hardware and beyond recommend hardware. I've done that just to prove, once again and with base, that Win is still a crappy operating system compared to linux. As someone said before: windows is just necesary for gaming or specialized design; Everything else Linux can do it now and better (and sexyer :P).

BTW, the idea of the cube came from linux (because in Win everything is copied from linux and mac, superior OSs).

  • @leorduz WOW DOES GAMING COPYED FROM MAC OR A linsux

  • @iron888888 holy sh*t you are even dumber than what I thought. And as you don't even know to write I won't waste my time with you anymore. Just inform you about something: an OS is not good or bad for the applications that can be installed in it. It'd be like comparing the quality of 2 pcs (hardware-wise) looking at wich one got the best printer (ridiculous). And still most of the most played games have version for Mac =)

BTW, gaming is independant of OSs (why consoles are for then?)

  • @iron888888, I am using windowns 7 now... But all in all I still think Linux is better, and prefer to use it instead.

  • I would not recommend to not-using-a-firewall even if I run my machines on Debian GNU software.

  • In the field of animation and visual effects, most high end software, such as AutoDesk Maya, Softimage XSI and Apple Shake, is available for Linux. In the film industry, Linux has been the platform of choice for several years. The first major film produced on Linux servers was Titanic in 1997. Since then major studios like Dreamworks Animation, Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic have moved to Linux. 95% of the servers and desktops at large animation and visual effects companies use Linux.

  • but like the geytard mac it doesnt suport alot of games

  • right, but Linux has Wine, so you can run any Windows application in Linux... So actually, Linux has more games than anything else.

  • @Markn951 a couple years ago when was using Ubuntu as my primary OS I found Wine couldn't run most small applications (by small I mean not developed by a large company such as microsoft) and I wasn't able to get the games I wanted to to work properly either. I'm sure the community has improved Wine but im sure its nowhere near perfect.

  • @gamermanj4 At least it isn't the gaytard Mac.

  • Linux is Great I use Linux Mint Helena on my computers and I learned that I didn't have to be a master at Windows in order to understand Linux mint , Ubuntu gos , and Freespire.

  • Linux is a good idea. Thats about it.

  • I could write a book about whats wrong with this video.

  • @dragonballjiujitsu lol I was about to post a response about why youre wrong but then I realized you are a mac fanboy so I wont even waste my time. However I dont understand why you dont think linux is better than windows at least as an OS. Everyone in the field knows that (even gates and ballmer)

I also dont understand why you watched this video (to much interest for linux if you dont like it). I cheked your channel and didnt care about your videos. I supposed right OC that is just mac nonsense

  • Most hard core Linux users have this dumb idea that Linux shouldn't use Flash because it cost money...

Yet they will post videos on YouTube that is powered by Flash...

If your going to use it anyways you should just take it to the next step and back Adobe all the way.

  • I think hard core Linux fans really need to think about tell more people that Apps made in Flash like AIR apps will run on linux...

Because the more free apps there are that will run on Linux the better it looks to the average user.

Plus Flash AIR apps are easy to make, and easy to install, and uninstall. It will get more people making cool Linux apps.

To install or un-install you just click on the .air file... easy

Look at "Splashup Light" and "RichFLV" they look great on Linux...

  • FYI I made this video

  • Thanks!

  • Linux will run Proprietary software like Maya 3d 2010.

    Red Hat isn't free...

So ummm it's not all free...

Don't get me wrong I love Linux. Free sounds good on paper, but Linux doesn't have any software to replace Autodesk, or Adobe...

Blender 3D? K-3D? Wing3D? nope... they are good, but Autodesk is 10 times better

Pencil- is a Flash like Program, Gimp ... None of them are as good as Adobe

Sorry but it's true, I make high end Art so I know it's true.

    Linux is getting better.

  • OK so what you MUST do is write letters to the companies who make those programs (Adobe, & Audodesk) and tell them you use Linux and want them to make their software for Linux OR ELSE you won't buy their wares anymore.

If even 20% of users did this, it would change and those companies would make the software for Linux.

Adobe already does Flash Player for Linux...

Also you should try Wine Doors U probably can get those apps to work with it...

  • Hey im Linuxbrother11 you know Facebook. :-)

  • Adobe already does Flash Player for Linux that is true, but not Flash it's self ...

Flash and Flash Player is not the same thing...

They make Adobe AIR for Linux to but not Flex or Flash CS4...

  • I use 3ds Max, sorry but it is better than Blender 3D... Plus there isn't any program at all in Linux like MUDBOX , and Z-brush ... :(

It's sad to, because I really like Linux... I've used Wine and VirtualBox, and Game Emulators in Linux, and yes that get most of the job done... but it feels it needs more work.

Yes it does help people, but what about the people that work making Proprietary software isn't Linux making them loose their jobs. Isn't this just trading one problem for another?

  • No, the people who make Windows or Mac software should if they want to stay in business start making their software for Linux.

Proprietary can run on Linux as you know, there is now law against charging for Linux software.

If they loose their jobs it is their fault and they deserve to anyway for been so immoral to make Proprietary software in the first place.

  • Indeed I find the biggest issue right now causing stability issues for me on one of my computers is ATI Graphics Cards... They make Ubuntu crash :-(

It sucks coz I love AMD.

BTW I made this video, thanks for the feedback guys.

  • Having used both windows xp and Ubuntu linux extensively and on various different hardware I'd say that the linux systems really are significantly more stable.

  • Good Man, your smart and moral.

  • I'd say Windows xp is more stable than Ubuntu (based on my 2-3 month experiences with Ubuntu). 30 minutes ago I lost sound and had to reboot to fix it. Yesterday wireless died and only fix was to reboot. I guess I should try out Debian stable or some other distro.

  • NSEPNSEP...my personal experience with Ubuntu has been quite good. My main desktop is still using Gutsy, while my laptop runs Jaunty. Unless I need to update a kernel, my uptimes can last for months. I've personally never had a Windows XP desktop machine that can run for much more than a month before some kind of crash happens or a reboot is needed. Even the few programs I run under WINE seem to be more stable. Don't kid yourself. No way that XP is more stable than GNU/Linux.

  • 11 days uptime for Jaunty and 41 days for xp, but I guess it depends on hardware since wireless is forcing me to reboot.

  • NSEPNSEP...Yes, I will agree that hardware makes a tremendous difference when comparing uptime values. It took me several versions of Ubuntu before my laptop became stable. Oftentimes you're comparing community developed drivers against factory developed ones. Given time to mature, Linux will beat XP without question. My desktop before Gutsy (an old Debian install) went 525 days between reboots once. Only an extended power outage took it down. With open source, imagine the possibilities.
