  • Sunsoft, the same company who created THE BEAUTY & THE BEAST for SEGA genesis.

  • That non-smooth tilting gives me a headache. Also, how is it that Sega let Sunsoft port this to the NES?

  • Sad thing is this is the NES version made by Sunsoft elsewhere and Tengen in the americans and it's running off weaker hardware then the SMS and it blew the pants off that version. NES <3.

  • looks very good..better than the SMS port imo:)

  • @fazares I agree, the gameplay is much faster in this version (closer to the arcade), and the audio is world class by Sunsoft as usual.

  • @fazares Yeah, I've played them both and the one on the NES is better. Mostly because the gameplay is more like the arcade. Sega's SMS looks better but is gimped.

  • @fazares

Non-Japanese Master System version = lacking in the visual and sound department.

Japanese Mark III/Master System version = bad visuals, but great FM sound.

Famicom version = decent visuals and sound.

  • The game is great but seems to craw along compared to almost any other version.

  • Technically, this is a pretty sound port of After Burner II. DPCM drums, voice clips and Sunsoft's trademark music style all make this a pretty decent port for the NES.

It's a shame they didn't use the melody version of Final Take Off.

  • I always wondered why did Sega allow some companies to port their arcades title to competitor's consoles like NES and PC-Engine back in the days. It's not like the Master System wasn't out at this time. It was released in 84 actually.

  • @mrnuage IDK, maybe they were getting money back in copyrights by doing that, while they didn't actually made the game for the NES. I may be wrong, though :P

  • @mrnuage

Likely because Sega had a feeling that the ports for those systems would suck compared to the Genesis ports. Imagine the disappointment one must suffer on Christmas day when a child got this game on the NES, since his folks couldn't afford a Genesis, and then playing this and realizing it sucks donkey chode. That's the stuff serial killers are made of.

  • アフターバーナーはいろんなハードに移植されてるけど、見た目の迫力にこだわったものほど中身は面白くない。

  • I wonder why we didn't get this version in the U.S. The Tengen version, which WAS released in the US, seemed to have had a lot missing from this one, but either one is way better than Sega's own port for their Master System platform.

When porting any arcade game to a much-less-capable home system, of course certain sacrifices have to be made (graphics or otherwise) -- that being said, this is very close to arcade-perfect.

  • Great game!!

  • ファミコン版今でも大事に持ってます!

  • was that really for the NES?!?!

wow,it looks like 16 bit game

  • wow! NES!

  • nes??

    it's a hack

    no? :S

  • うp主うまいすぎる!!

  • its NES you faggot

  • How am I a faggot?

The NES wasn't exactly capable of 32 bit graphics.

It could pull off amazing music and sfx but don't expect much from it

  • this port looks brilliant for nes!!!!!!!!!

  • The US version by Tengen has worse sound like Rolling Thunder. Just to let you know.

  • @bogusbrosrule graphically and sound are better than the tengen one

  • top!

  • that's the most BORING version of After Burner I've ever seen...

  • These graphics and sound are even better than the master system version!

  • sega versions are much better... xD

  • Holy crap! I have the US version of this by Tengen! There's no digitized speech or digitized drums in that version though!
