I see many videos with the shooter using the gun in a single action mode. This is okay for target and long distance shooting. Shooters using a double action revolver should use the gun in double action as well to get use to it in case it should have to be used for self defense. This method is much faster and is accurate at close ranges which will be the case in a self defense scenario. Enjoyed the video.
The .38 special uses the same bullet as the .357 magnum, which is .357, however, I have used 9mm .355 bullets for reloading and they work fine for target shooting.
Well I have same gun, and I always pull the hammer back because there is a longer pull/delay if you don't. Therefore, your gun is far more steady and accurate due to pulling the hammer back.

Most western style revolvers like the peacemaker are single action only. Many of the .38 specials are single and double action. For target shooting the single action option is typically more accurate.
