  • great to see barry andrews on keyboards

  • I want this video on my Azalis 238 phone.

  • 'hello all you whistle testers out there!' legend

  • This video went viral on Netherlands

  • does it get any better?

  • Saw them live a couple of times 77/78/I think i'm in saying they had to repeat songs for encore through lack of material!

  • Good Lord... it really has been 30 years... still ove 'em, though.

  • why can no-one pull their songs off live anymore? Arcade fire, the most celebrated band of the 00s, are nowhere near as tight as this live.

  • Is that rita coolidge reference some kind of inside joke we don't know about?

  • @thebert03 Rita Coolidge and Kris Kistofferson's performance on Whistle was considered a landmark in intimate live music back in the 70s. The song was "Help Me Make it Through the Night" (it's on You Tube).

  • I just have to applaud Andy's pants. That's smackable, right there. :P

  • Hmm - first gig I ever went to was about this time.... fantastic

  • :D:D:D

  • i listented this music about 30 years ago.

    Partrige is COOL!

    the music also.

  • The Black Sea........... where are you when i need you?

  • Colin looks like some kind of Keith Richards here :)

  • @pinba11wizzard I think he looks a bit like Cillian Murphy here, actually.

  • I LOVE YOU COLIN!!!

  • I think Barry Andrews leave the band because he need to be with the great ones

like Robert Fripp in The League of Gentleman, and after this make his own band,

in 2006 play some great tunes with Brian Eno in "Another day on Earth", ..... Barry Andrews really rules.

  • Yes, you can see why Barry Andrews had to go.

He slowed the band down and smeared over the rhythmic agility they had to use in later songs.

  • @avril2 I Disagree... it's all about the performance and he brings so much to the live show. I personally think that the later XTC albums are no where near as good as the first two records. but then again thats my opinion and everyones entitled to theirs.

  • Just shows you can have a great band without needing a big persona like Morrissey, McCullough, others of the time. Just quality, no frills music.

  • I saw them at the LSE in 1978, Statue of liberty live was awesome

  • Classic new wave! XTC ROCKS!!!!!

  • I was always quite miffed with the album versions of this and Helicopter, thank god for the live versions! Especially keyboard during the verse, love it!

  • Well, The album version of this is good but there's definitely a better version of Helicopter - April 17th 1981's Performance. Google "XTC Live Bootleg" And it should pop up. There's a lot of good performances of songs in that show, They were called out for two encores too. If you have a Last FM account please rename all the files properly though. It could mess up the Last FM charts if you don't (Sorry, I had to say it)

  • january 78 :)

  • I've never seen Andy Partridge so young.

  • @Schylarherrin He was never younger than this. It's unlikely he ever will be in future.

  • oh savor the CREAMY GOODNESS!!!

    xtc ... greatest band of the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s.

  • quality!!!!!

  • This is off Black Sea I think (1980 LP release)

  • awesomeness

  • Fucking awesome man. I wish i coulda seen 'em...
