good cover ! lol my mates mum is a hipacrit over pete , she says shes hates him but when his music is on the radio she loves it cus she dunt no who it is , then she as the nerve to say amy whinehouse's music is ok , when all she sings about is drugs, but pete sings about love hate war and peace , !
well i suggest you listen to his songs again and check his lyrics. not every single one of his songs is about drugs, but there are a lot of (mainly hidden) drug references in main part of his songs.
And you cant deny his songs are influenced by drugs, he said so himself in an interview. he is using drugs hence that influences the way of writing. he writes about the world the (sometimes altered) way he sees it.
Which isnt bad, dont misunderstand me, i love his music.
you said every one of his songs was influenced by drugs.. and then a comment later have said not every single one of his songs are about drugs.. . impossible to not misunderstand you i'm afraid.
please don't patronise, i know about drugs and his "hidden" references to them. i certainly can deny that all his songs were influenced by drugs because his early libertines stuff wasnt at all - i recommend you listen to it.
and i know the interview to which you refer - again he admited using drugs an that they sometimes aided song writing.. but thats a long way from every song being about drugs or being influenced by drugs isnt it?
ok you're right. i probably exaggerated a bit in my first post and youre also right about the early libertines songs. and believe me, i already listened to his songs quite a lot, i know the stuff he wrote.
Still, my post wasnt 'utter nonsense'. Lets say: a lot of his songs, if not -nearly- all of his songs (that doesnt mean all of them), fairly the bigger part of his writings are about or influenced by drugs, know what i mean. he mentions them a lot, doesnt he?
in babyshambles all of his songs have been written under the influence of drugs i suspect (bar the songs written in th very early days i.e 'there she goes'). the libertines are a different story though. the second album in particular has a relation to drugs in the sense that it was the drugs that were pulling pete an carl apart..which was the basis for the whole album.
i agree drugs have played a significant part in pete's songs. i would just say love and literatures part was more apparent
yeh i totally agree. pete has a special relationship to poetry and literature, and from what i can tell i think he has a very romantic soul, believes in love and that's obvious in his writing. having said that drugs still play an important role in his life, which isnt bad in my opinion innit.
i think i remember someone saying that pete got on hard drugs during the "up the bracket" record already, though. and if i think about the songs on that record, i see some drug references there already.
i think pete got on hard drugs near the endof 'up the bracket' because as far as i can remember the drug references are there but rather fleeting. and i think musically and lyrically there's more structure an clarity.. not to take away from later efforts by pete but to simply point out a difference - the arcadian dream was still alive on 'up the bracket'... it was falling aparton there 2nd album.. an the increase in pete's drug intake not just co-incidence.
haha no worries there's no offense being taken here.. to quote the strokes "we're not enemies, we just disagee.." except we are starting to agree now haha.. but you catch my drift.
i agree on pete's romantic soul.. an i think the pain in some of his sadder songs actually highlights this more, 'music when the lights go out' a case in point. i think he definitely believes in love as well.. in fact he says he does in 'killamangiro'.. be hard to write songs like he does if you didnt believe it eh
of course, love and the pain which love brings. if you think about it, nearly all of the people he (from what i can tell) probably loved most let him down. his father, carl and then kate.
yeh i admire his talent of songwriting a lot, he is a gifted poet isnt he.
@6billiondeaths by his romantic soul, would that kinda be, oh I dunno, like maybe shooting up an underage fan with heroin who is already passed out on the floor...?
the story to which you actually refer is as follows: the fan was 18 or 19... she was not passed out... he was not injecting her with anything rather withdrawing blood for his paintings (see books of albion etc etc) and it was entirely consensual. it was the tabloids who twisted the story out of all proportion and who spun the 'doherty injects unconscious fan with heroin' nonsense. you really shouldn't believe everything you read in the tabloids eh?
no total pish. the girl involved in the alleged incident even came out and said not only was she conscious but she was consenting in the removal of her blood. it doesn't matter what you believe to be the truth, the fact is doherty never injected her or any other fan, conscious or otherwise, with heroin. if you listened to interviews with Doherty he is totally against fans copying his drug taking... seriously man read up before believing wild, inaccurate tabloid sensationalism.
ok allow me to re-phrase: don't judge a book by its cover. just because doherty has an addiction problem doesn't mean he would inject an unconscious fan with heroin.
additionally it was you who displayed anger and discontent by practically baulking at what i called dohertys "romantic soul".
pete is real bad...prefer stones version

for example 'horrorshow' on 'up the bracket'. one of their most obvious drug referenc songs along with skag and bone man probably.
"horrorshow - the horse is brown" both horse and brown, also the term the "horse is brown" is slang for heroine, just to name one ref.
Having said that, poetry probably influenced him more, i see your point there, you are right.
i never ment to offend you or anything, just having a discussion, right? :)
