this is Frank Miller at his best... the Battle of Thermopylae fought 480 years before Christ in which the Persian army of 2.65 million fought against a group of 300 Spartan warriors in a mountain pass for 3 days, and suffered over 20,000 casualties! The Spartans were the greatest warriors ever to come from the old world and were raised from 7 years of age as fighters.
Even if they used the more realistic numbers of 1400 vs 200k its still a cool looking movie. Can't wait to see it. And I hope for those of you guys on here that are from different countries know that the U.S. government doesnt represent the views of all americans.

And of course the 5000 greeks lost the battle. But they ultimately won the war and took at least 20,000 persians with them.
Thermopylae is regarded as one of the greatest last stands in history - hence the movie.

true... there was 300 Spartans, 700 Thespian volunteers and a hostaged group of 700 Thebians... only 2 Spartans survived and the Thebians surrendered. The one surviving Spartan killed himself to atone for his cowardice and the other died in batle a year after against the Persians.

this is Frank Miller at his best... the Battle of Thermopylae fought 480 years before Christ in which the Persian army of 2.65 million fought against a group of 300 Spartan warriors in a mountain pass for 3 days, and suffered over 20,000 casualties! The Spartans were the greatest warriors ever to come from the old world and were raised from 7 years of age as fighters.

Even if they used the more realistic numbers of 1400 vs 200k its still a cool looking movie. Can't wait to see it. And I hope for those of you guys on here that are from different countries know that the U.S. government doesnt represent the views of all americans.
p.s. I dont know about other countries history books but in the U.S. we're taught about ancient greece including the Spartans and how they were great warriors.

I don't understand why its so hard for people to give credit where its due. It does not matter whether they were gay bisexual or anything else. What those 1000 men (don't forget the 700 thespians that died along with the spartans)did something extraordinary. They were bad ass!!! which is why we are still talking about them. There names are engraved in history because it deserves to be. That will never change!!!!

then after about 5 years they would let the student come back. in order to become a full fleged spartan, they would get tortured for like 3 hrs with a guy standing in their face. if they even twitched from the pain, they would be sent back out on their own.

to become a spartan, you were picked at a young age, about 10. trained for a few years, then sent into the world to fend for themselves. their main way to get food/water/shelter was to steal from old spartan veterans. they just sit out kicking the shit out of little kids that were trying to steal from them.

about 90% of spartas pop were slaves, the other 10% were either nobles or memebers of the spartan army
this means that in a riot/rebellion, 1 spartan warrior had to be able to take out at least 9. chances are they could probably take out more.

The Spartans were all soldiers. The slaves were calling eilwtes and they were NOT Spartans, they were slaves that Spartans captured them from wars.
And the true Spartans are the Doria that came and Conquered Sparta long after the Troyjan war. That means that the Spartans that fought in Troy were NOT the Doria, but they became their slaves after Doria's invasion.

Follow up;Of them all. number 3 was on the Spartan Hit List. Remember, women, though given equal right in council (akin to housework in their thinking)were excluded from combat training. Since a spartan soldier could expect 20 plus years in the field, not much of a homelife relationship developed.

Maybe there weren't homosexuality. But a vast majority of spartans were BISEXUAL. And the pederastic love was very common (an "erastes" or older man with a "eromeno", or nearly teenager boy).
BTW, spartans really didn't mind about who the hell you just fucked if you have brought 2 or 3 childs to the world to enhance the Glory of the City.

That's not a fair statement; God told the Israelites not to do the things that other tribes were doing which included homosexuality. However if a Christian was to look upon a homosexual as pathetic it would be hypocritical because of the many sins he or she has on is or her own head.
