thank you you tube. i thought all this great hardcore was lost.
THANK YOU MOTHERFUCKERS.
THIS IS THE ROOT OF ALL MUSIC TODAY THEY ARE ALL WANNABE'S QUICKSAND DOWNSIDE 108 LEEWAY REFUSE TO FALL MOUTHPIECE SHELTER 108 FUGAZI SAID & DONE NYHC
One of the most influential bands in rock, period. Coming out of, especially,"Gorilla Biscuits" considered grandaddys of (post) hardcore...and before somebody replies, I should mention, of course, Bad Brains.
wikipedia says this guy sings for rival schools, but the vocals sound pretty different to me. Is it really the same dude? I gotta say, I like this more.
it sure is the same guy. I listened to a little more, and it is really obvious. Just this song for some reason, sounds like he is singing a little differently.
Yeah I have been trying to get my son to listen to this. Thorn In My side still sounds new hehe. Never saw the videos for the band, but had all the albums. Always thought they were much better than Tool and the other upcoming bands at that time.
One of the several albums I bought based on seeing them on Beavis & Butt-Head. They showed "Dine Alone" on an episode and I eventually got the album. I ended up liking this song even more, as well as "Fazer", "Head to Wall" and "Unfulfilled".
i was chillin' with the deftones back stage after a concert, and Abe the drummer (deftones) asked me about any bands i knew to get into, i told him to check out "relative ash", then he told me to check out "quicksand." f'n awesome.
stayed at my house while on tour in 1991... awesome guys. NO ONE diy or signed had their unique and nasty sound. kids with taste dig them. jesus, limp biscuit? how can anyone comepare crap like that or linkin park, system of a down, rob zombie, etc etc etc. to quicksand? these guys were NOT about some dumbass image, only making powerful, intense music...
Quicksand and Helmet are the best post-hc/metal-bands ever! Both can play hard music without showing-off tattoos, long hairs and black clothes. It's the attitude and music itself, not a image-thing than many kids are into.
dude is one of the best hard rock singers ever. sick. saw them a handful of times in the 90s. once when they were opening for the Offspring. There were all teeny bopper girls there with their dads waiting for the Offspring to come on and going, "Like oh my God, what kind of music is this?" Funny shit. I asked one of the dads if he had any papers and he goes, "I am here with my daughter." and I go, "Does she have any papers?"
Hey Man! Thanks for posting this! I haven't listened to this music since college radio days. We broadcast these guys quite a lot in 93'. Great f-ing music!
reminds me of tool. Now i suspect this was before tool. Quicksand were a bit before my time but they sound really important for the late 90s bands that followed
But Quicksand was built out of bands that were successful in hardcore already so they built a following much before Tool. Not that Tool is bad, cuz they aren't but I feel like Quicksand more influential.
Quicksand, Jawbox, Fugazi are the real forefathers of what has been manipulated into this worthless emo scene. I urge any emo fan to go back and listen to these bands I just mentioned. You will go home and erase your Ipod and swear by them. Download "repeater" or "Merchandise" from Fugazi, ""Chineese Fork Tie" or "Static" from Jawbox, "Dine Alone" or "Brown Gargantuan" from Quicksand. Check Out Orange 9mm (Album"Driver not included") and anything from the band Handsome. Check out Jena Berlin
I wonder if they'll ever be a reunion. Walter is doing that acoustic stuff now, and I dont know about the rest of the guys... but they could be HUGE if they got back together.
It doesn't suck for the fortunate souls who get to experience the bands as they write history, if they are "ahead of their time" that just means they are coming out exactly when they're supposed to. Long live the NY music spirit!
I don't agree about the "wrong era". Quicksand opened new doors in terms of music in the 90's. They inspired so many newcomers... this may be the difference between a band and a legend ! Quicksand has changed the face of music for ever.
