That's an awesome video Tamer, I have a Brunswick Avalanche, but not urethane though, it's got seveal nicks from hitting the pins, I guess I need to get it resurfaced to get the nicks off of it, and I have a nick on the thumb hole as well, but I do bowl fairly well with my ball though, but I enjoyed watching your video, good luck in your bowling. :)
@HBparkflyers There is no "best" drill for a ball. You've got to work with your local pro shop operator who can evaluate your game and the conditions you bowl on to select the best drill for YOU.
anyone know how this ball compares to the natural or natural pearl? i was thinking about getting a urethane ball because i like to play straighter on dry conditions but i have a higher rev rate... feel free to take a look at my style and if anyone has any suggestions about why or why not a urethane ball is a good choice for me i'd love to hear it...
@BowlingIsLife300 I've got a Natural video that will give you some idea, albeit with a different bowler. Basically, the Natural is the earliest rolling, followed by the Natural Pearl. The Avalanche has the cleanest cover, storing a bit more energy for downlane motion. Just keep in mind, it's still urethane so the backend reaction will still not be the same as a reactive ball.
@TamerBowling ok cool, ill check that out, yeah since i have a fairly high rev rate, i need a predictable urethane ball for house shots and when my look goes away in the 5th and 6th games at tournaments... do you personally have both the natural and avalanche? i know what each ball is "supposed" to do, so i was more wondering how each felt in your hands... like for someone who has thrown both on dry lanes, which would you prefer if you were gonna just stick with one?
@BowlingIsLife300 unfortunately, I can't say I've personally thrown all of them, but I have seen them in action with several different bowlers including our testers. With above average rev rate, if you like to see more backend, the Avalanche would likely be the choice. If you want more control with an earlier read, the Natural is definitely the earliest. I personally used to use my Natural on 4th game when the shot broke down completely.
What drilling layout are you using? I just bought this ball, have a style like yours and would like to drill it the same. Good bowling btw! Nice video. I would love to see more.
if your gonna cup ur wrist, keep it there. your breaking your wrist at the bottom of your swing.it would help with your rev rate if you didnt break your wrist at the bottom. kepp it cuped the whole way and you will see a lot more reaction out of your ball. it might help to use a lighter ball also.
@sk8er3882 thats not necessarily true... the players with the really high rev rates generate their revs from the cupping and uncupping motion... watch michael fagan, wes mallott, chris barnes, dom barrett, they all have a good deal of wrist action ... the wrist action (cupping until the very last moment, then uncupping) creates great revs... although the bowler in this vid does uncup a bit early but that could be due to lack of wrist strength...
ya with this modern game ut is very common. there are ways to get that many revs without all that torgue work in your release. look at chris barnes or malot.
@squirril66 his release is perfect i bowl the same way but left handed and bigger hook and i have the exact same ball. and thats how u get the revs on the ball just sayin
@squirril66 Fortunately or unfortunately, this is very common in the modern game. The young bowlers are growing up in the "high rev" era where everyone likes to see huge hook.
This bowler is really somewhere in between the stroker and the cranker.
I'm a two hander and I bowl at a very dry centre with wood lanes. I have an avalanche slide and on most days you can really notice it rolls early and loses continuation in the backend, leaving flat 10's at times.
The urethane on the otherhand pushes way down the lane and snaps massively at the back, which is great for kicking the 10-pin.
@NextTeam101 Good to read because I just ordered the ball for the same reason. Dry lanes, wood lanes, slower speed, early hook, and too much hook. I usually have to switch from reactive to plastic or use my spinner technique.
How is your pin/CG oriented? Did you add a balance hole? Surface change?
@shuumai I'm completely ignorant of what my coach and driller did specifically, but the pin is above the ring finger. There is no balance hole added and I did not change the surface, which I believe is polished for maximum length. However, in bowling with this ball for some weeks, I find that my layout or surface gives it a tendency to jump on the backend.
I would add this, if the lanes are god-awfully dry, you will not be able to use this ball. It does need at least some oil to work well.
@NextTeam101 Ah, thanks. It sounds like you have the layout for length. CG slightly to the right of centre? Maybe ask your coach or driller about sanding with 4000 Abralon. From what I hear, that would make the ball turn slightly earlier but smoother.
Yeah, I guess a completely dry lane is hopeless for any shot that curves.
A pearl Avalanche was sent to me by mistake. From what I'm gathering, I need to exchange it for the urethane that I wanted to begin with.
@NextTeam101 OK, all sorted. We were given a deal on BOTH the urethane and the pearl. hehe My wife has the pearl and I have the urethane, but we could swap at any time.
At first the urethane ball hooked out of control, surprisingly. Today I was able to get it under control by correcting my release. I really like the Avalanche Urethane. Sometimes, though, it can't hang on the edge of the lane; another thing I hope to correct with better aim. ^_- It's a good match for me right now.

Are the finger holes beveled and/or are the grips inset a little?
I don't like it when the grips stick out above the surface, especially on the track side. I have mind inset a bit right now.

Or are they Vacu-Grip inserts?

the only thing i see wong with his game is that he really accelerates and works hard at the release to get all those revs and speed on the ball
