  • It's actually Late Night With David Letterman, not the Tonight Show.

  • Simply annoying. Nothing funny whatsoever.

  • a door way out of hell on earth.

  • Sam at his best

  • Its LATE NIGHT with David Letterman... Johnny Carson was hosting the Tonight Show at this time you moron.

  • Hicks and Kinison were on a see saw all the time, most of the time they were equal, then Hicks comes out with goatboy, rises above, then Kinison creates love song then rises above, they were both prophets, neither was better

  • I predict South Korean cars are coming!

  • Hicks was better, but how did he get so screwed over?

  • Very similar to Hicks. Very amazing. Very fucking awesome.

  • Sam is right and so was Bill Hicks. They both died in the early '90s. They both knew that the good people that wanted to make a world a better place die young. Both of their lives and careers prove that. Makes you wonder.

  • whats that edit of the Regan joke @ 4:53? could not make out the joke - looks like someone made a convenient edit

  • @tamlando the word you couldn't decipher was "wounded"

  • man, he really didn't handle success well. his act went so downhill....he remains very much missed though RIP

  • He's... completely... insane. And hilarious.

  • "I'VE GOT A HEAD-WOUND!!!"

  • @aaramon1 That whole reference if you were to see his other performances on the same joke it's actually "I have a hole in my head". The reason why he had to change it "head-wound" was due to the restrictions in lettermn show as it was being aired on t.v so for the sake of audiences, the joke had to be altered. Peace.

  • He fell off hard. He became a parody of himself

  • @DuramaterOZ wotm8.

  • I was there and LIVED this , saw Sam rise, saw his genuis, he told the truth on many things. Can you believe we had 3 networks, and there were NETWORK CENCSORS sp just 25 years ago? How things have changed. Sam in the end did believe in Jesus, and I believe he is in heaven now. The world is a hard place to live in and he had alot of pressure on him, as many of us do now. Now that I'm divorced, his comedy is even funnier. Classic, 80's, onpoint, humor.

  • Your not a mother, you're a shake and bake bag!!!!!!

  • thats why reagan was only what?

  • @plopppytheman - That's why Reagan was only wounded.

  • He was the best!!!!!!! but he is swimming in coke and booze. he is just zooming. wish he was still with us

  • Why did so many gifted people die in the early 90s? this guy, Bill Hicks, Kurt Cobain & John Candy. When they go, they seem to go in job-lots like in the early seventies-Joplin, Hendrix, Blind Al Wilson, Morrison, Duane Allman.

  • Your missed, Sam- Class Act

  • ooooooooooh, I get it. He's funny because he's loud.

  • @Apocanaut

yea that was why he was funny, you idiot.

You have to take into account that this was 85 and that he inspired so many comics. He was a true original and if you actually get beyond the screaming his content was true, biting, and most of all hilarious.

  • @desioreo87 I apologize for not thinking it's funny. I really owe you one, you poophead. If you listen, you'll notice people are mostly laughing when he starts screaming, which is a pathetic way to get laughs.

  • @Apocanaut you called me a poophead which i think is hilarious so all is forgiven. average people may laugh at the yelling but that was not why he was great.

  • Sam is the man! I needed a good laugh hes been w/ the best from day 1!

  • @leshager2009 why does every angry comedian get referenceed back to Bill effin Hicks? he wasnt all that great, nuthin Sam and Denis Leary didnt do better imo....

  • @setzerlock Dude, Leary stole from Bill Hicks. The guy's a hack.

  • @charlydase

    Grow up.

  • @setzerlock Sam and Bill wrote their own material.

  • Is it me or does Sam look like Cartman with Long hair? You think?

  • Comment removed

  • @ToadCharmer he looked like heavy-set,long-haired version of JFK

  • @CaramelMamiChula: He looks like a Kennedy. Maybe a long lost cousin. The one they don't talk about. Too funny.

  • @ToadCharmer thtas kinda obvious.

  • Is it me or does Sam look like Cartman with Long hair? You think?

  • his portion after the standup was better than the standup itself

  • It was all going well. Good concepts, grate delivery, grate pace and timing... then he re-hashed a Bill Hicks joke and he lost my respect.

  • Comment removed

  • He was right: anyone who tries to create a feeling of inspiration and empowerment in the common man is either assassinated or smeared out of office. Or like Clinton, who was smeared so he would always be associated with something negative. And now look at how the ruling class and its corporate media are running down Obama. Whereas someone like Bush or Reagan is never discredited or smeared-because they work only for the rich

The ruling class always win. It doesn't matter who is President.

  • @001bf i actually hear more negativity about Bush and Reagan than Clinton and Obama

  • shit im only 20 and i know sam is one of the best comedians ever. purely genius and one of a kind.. he is truly missed..

  • @ProjectZachnigga

who cares how old you are.

  • @ProjectZachnigga check bill burr out

  • Some 20 something year old punk said Richard Pryor was the funniest comedian ever and I said hell nah it was Sam Kinison and he said who? I wanted to kick is fuckin face in the punk ass bitch

  • @rqangels hey man i like sam better than richard too, but richard pryor is the fuckin shittt!!

  • I use his stuff all the time and the young people never hear of sam, so it;s easy to make them laugh

  • even now, his routines are better than the comedians out there.....miss Sam

  • @EVHguitarz sad but true.

  • ahhhh AAAHHHHHHHHH

  • "If you got that much money your not ready to be cured yet."

  • HAHAHAHAHA HE WAS SUCH A LUNATIC WITH SO MUCH TALENT.

  • he shouts that's funny

  • the best. rip

  • It was Late Night with David Letterman on NBC

  • The man really sang!

  • RIP Sam Kinison

  • When he makes that noise of the guy hanging, that shit is so funny and diabolical.

  • Bill hicks, clearly took a lot of his style, the sardonic laughing at bitter jokes, the rock and roll screaming, the adjective litanies against people he doesn't like, the bit about shooting all our heroes, and reagan wounded. Bill hicks though read more noam chomsky and had a more direct and acerbic commentary on politics, religion, and culture, which is why he is often classified with lenny bruce and kinison is not.

  • Dave's one funny looking dude.

  • OMG hahahahhhahahahahahah and she leaves u when u need her the most *insane laughing* omg i love this man

  • My new favourite

  • Could be worse, ask Mondale. rofl

  • his first appearance was funnier

  • AHHH AHHHHHHH!!!!!! }XO)

    R.I.P. SAM

  • @Ross232323 who's your favorite comic Dane Cook? You suck dicks for a living oh OH OOOOOOOOH!

  • I love Sam and I will never let his comedy die. He told the harsh reality on many issues, marriage, homeless, rehab, etc..

  • @rloby1 Chris Rock pointed out that there has been no one like sam Kinison

before or Since. He is soo right about this.Thank you Letterman and bless your

soul Rodney Dangerfield for giving him serious exposure.

  • its been a pleasure to read you two gentlemens posts...shows Sane people still in the world..and i do miss Sam..

  • that was awesome

  • He doesn't use Bill Hicks' material. They were good friends and party buddies who were like-minded.

  • You have no idea what you are talking about.

  • maybe... i'm basing my opinion solely on this video of Sam... but it still makes me sad when this guy takes an actually REAL, wholehearted attempt, unobstructed by any low cause like money or fame, to help people and open their eyes, and he makes it into some screaming hack...makes me sad

  • It's hard to form an opinion of someone, based solely on one TV spot, whose act changed so significantly throughout the years. As far as the screaming hack part, he carried the screaming and yelling from his previous years as a Southern preacher. And which passed up opportunity of helping people are you referring to?

  • I'm talking about his bit about good people getting shot, and Regan being wounded. Especially if he was indeed like-minded with Bill, i don't see any reason why he should use the exact same line and not put his own spin on it.

And what the hell is a "Southern preacher" i must ask....

  • I don't know if it's the same exact line or not but a lot of people talked about the killing or injuries of political figures. As for the Southern preacher dilemma, it's mainly a style or type of preaching that a good portion of Southern preachers use. It involves the preacher or reverent getting worked up and vitriolic while they "spread the gospel". (The "spread the gospel" part was pun intended.)

  • interesting...

well anyhow's, sorry about bashing sam,

perhaps i'm abit overdosed on scepticism

  • No worries dude. It's a fucking good thing you're like that. It's a good point but they were just like-minded friends. Anybody who doesn't really know their history together would question the same exact thing you did.

  • R.I.F.P.

    rest in fucking peace

  • Here's an example of Sam Kinison when he's high. I prefer his performances when he was on coke though because he brought a unique, exhilarating energy with him when he was high in contrast to his later, sober performances. I love his untouchable excitement he displayed each and every performance.

  • i have a dream BOOSH! i have a head wound!

  • Excellent Cmic that I only found out about yesterday. This guy's the best!!!

  • great comedian!

  • yah something alllways does happen to people to help thats why sam kinison was killed by a drunk driver

  • The great one in great form.

  • i like Kinison, the material is great, but the screaming can be off-putting sometimes

  • Hicks and kinison both knew each other very well and had similar outlooks on life, as did carlin, my three fave comics, i think any accusation of plagiarism is completely unfounded.

  • my fave three too. when will there be another?

  • just got to say wow man. a bit disappointed at an unnamed comic. we all steal, we steal a lot, there are ways to do things, you know. way bummed, none the less will enjoy them both with a bit less ignorance. Thank you for posting.

  • "its a beating!!! TAKE IT!!" best quote ever!

  • I agree with Mr. Btrippin

  • lol women were definitely too scared of this guy

  • This is so great, would have been cool to have him and Bill Hicks still around.

  • oH MY!....he was such an angry, tortured soul, now wasn't he! Oh my goodness! Was this therapy for him, huh? I think so. Goodness, goodness sakes.

RAGE ON SAM!! Love the bitches then kick their fucking lungs out! It's always worked for me!

  • "That's not a joke, that's information I need to write down " LMFAO

  • thank you for this sam will always be close to my heart he made me smile

  • Ampoh,

Thanks for uploading this and Kinnison's first appearance on Letterman. One thing, though: In your descriptions for both uploads, you describe this as "The Tonight Show," which is incorrect. This is, in fact, "Late NIght with David Letterman."

  • He borrowed from Bill Hicks in this segment.

    I'm not accusing or anything.

  • @FeelOfFriction The one with the Reagan and killing all the good people?

I 'am a massive massive Bill Hicks fan myself but I think its the other way around in this case.

  • Back in the days when Letterman was actually relevant and edgy. Rest in peace, Sam.

  • they were good friends and came up with that bit together

  • Everything is stolen from bill hicks

  • Your mom stole from Bill Hicks.

  • And Bill probably stole from Lenny Bruce, the ultimate bad boy comic....Big deal.

  • ...swingin over a drain....your not a mother your a shakenbake bag...wear something bright and sit down in front...

  • The metal man of comedy I miss this man. I wonder what he would have to say about the issues of today. I'm sure it would have ended with OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH!

  • LOL! I love his lunatic laughter

  • RIP Sam.

  • Maybe..but drunk drivers don't care. And he wasn't on anything I hear, the other guy was, and in the right lane.

  • Kinison was later found to have traces of cocaine, prescription tranquilizers, and codeine in his bloodstream.

So yeah he was on something Ecksntrick8.

I remember playing his song Wild Thing lol.

  • But, that's not what killed him..

  • Of course it wasn't. It was a 17 yeard old drunk kid that hit him straight on. Kid got off with some ridiculous sentence. Probation.

  • yeah.

  • Someone should run that kid over for murdering someone with talent. I bet the 17 year has a fat girlfriend who has 8 naked kids living in a trailer in some park, where they have to hunt for dead rodents that have been run over by vehicles. I hope now that kid is 300 hundred pounds and I hope he has an heart attack whilst he is making love to Miss Trash Trailer.

  • Its such a shame hes gone

  • He IS fearless.

  • It's funny, cause it's true! Sam Kinison rules!RIP

  • he can do it clean and still be hilarious.

  • that's why reagan what??? I missed that part

  • I guess that's why Reagan was only wounded.

  • Ah, the crazy screaming. The folks, well, they loved the crazy screaming. That was back in the 80s, you see; it was a simpler time. People could be pleased by coarse yelling, maniacal laughter, sudden violence. Yep. That Kinison fellow, he was quite a guy. Quite a trailblazer. Knew what funny was, you know? Not like those new guys - those Eddie Murphies, those Mitch Hedbergs. They're all acts. Sam, well, Sam was the real deal. He was real angry. Had problems. Personality problems. Funny fellow.

  • it could happen to anybody...you'll see

  • he was on the carson show as well? was the carson show and the letterman show on the same time? or did letterman start after carson?

  • Letterman started after Carson like Conan follows Leno.

  • Not Funny? Get a clue, this is the funniest comedian of his time. Not tame, maybe. Not inoffensive, perhaps. But FUNNY!

  • I agree...Sam is top 3 all time, and is number 1 on my list.

  • "wear something bright and sit down front"

  • Hicks made the same statement about shooting good people.

  • he sure did retread..then denis copied it from both for "no cure for cancer"

hicks and sam had very similar backgrounds...southern religious families.

  • Sam was the best he would have loved Black Russian

  • It took a while for me to like Sam, but once I saw him more often he was definitely a great comic. He just hit his peak, just married and some idiot drives into his lane and deprives us some great fun from Sam.

  • Dave cannot do the Kinison scream.

  • they played the same intro music for him

  • It's "Beast Of Burden" by the Rolling Stones

  • I was waiting for your Letterman-tall/Kinison-short comment, djb. You need to expand your power of observation, though.

From now on, you're going to notice how tall every talkshow host sits. It's safe to say that you will NEVER see a guest sitting taller than the host, no matter how tall either is. The host ALWAYS sits a little or a lot taller.

Johnny Carson pioneered this practice and it's held true for just about every host with that format.

It's one aspect of being in total control.

  • Letterman is over 6' feet tall, and Kinison wasn't much more than 5'6". That's why he looks taller.

  • "Shut up and take the beating!!! He had such a clever way with concepts and language(Not ALL of it foul)and was a true original in every sense of the word. The world is a quieter and less funny place without you in it Sam.

  • @Pallindrom27 So fucking funny. I love that groan he puts in there at 1:26. Pissing meself here

  • my god those shoes are so awful. What a legend Sam was

  • Fucking great

  • Sam Kinison is my hero! I miss you Sam. RIP.

  • Wear your seatbelt!

  • LETTERMAN ALWAYS SUCKED.

This stand up wasn't taken in well by the crowd. Kinison is better when he is unscensored.

  • EXACTLY! sam kinison not being able to swear is like sex without a penis and vagina.

  • Oh yeah Letterman always sucked now I remember!! Oh and how'd the worst band survive ? ahhh stay with letterman..got it..

  • Classic tv.

  • Wish he was here... he'd love the election options we got this year! RIP

  • Truck driver women...lol

  • Funny

  • YAh, it was kind of expected being that carlin was in his 70's. This guy should have been doing his thing till the 2040's

  • Just a head's up to whoever posted these videos: David Letterman never hosted the Tonight Show. You should change the description to say "Late Night".

  • Thats a good one.

    Ask Mondale haha

  • Sam was AWESOME!! I remember where I was when someone told me he died....sad day.

    RIP Sam

  • sam was the best. rip

  • I miss him. He was shocking, honest and challenging. rip because you've been married 3X's Sam.

  • my dad and his friend use to live with him he died in a car crash. my dad said he was really nice and fun

    RIP

  • ahh super bowl 20

one of the two greatest football teams of all time

    just destroyed the patriots

    GO BEARS

  • "I missed the Super Bowl Patriots lost. It could be worse. Ask Modell AH HA HA HA HA!!!"

And they just lost again too!
