  • What a fantastic paint job. Crazy how you did it so professionally in your own home garage. My next goal is to soup up my truck. Respect to you sir and enjoy your classic car :)

  • @temanyada

Thank you for the kind words & good luck with your truck..

  • respect man

  • @sikais17

    Thanks

  • great job. where do you get your parts from?

  • @MrLrod101

Thank you. I bought from several different suppliers, but most came from Firewheel Classics.

  • thanks for not destroying it like other assholes

  • @MrGabrielicious

    lol... Thanks

  • how long did the whole process take

  • @ripstik159

It took me apox 18 months to do the car start to finish, just working on it in my spare time

  • Fun project. Now was the 327 available on all First Gen Camaros? When I think '67-'69, I only think 307, 350, and 396. The sixties were an awesome time for engine choices!

  • @Jgeneraledger23

Yes the 327 was the base V8 in 67, 68 & part of the 69 model year. Mid way thru 69 they replaced the 327 as the base V8 with a 307.

  • How many coats of base color you gave it? and how many coats of clear?

  • @nymxcar

3 coats of Base & 3 coats of Clear.

  • @Rarerat Nice! gives you somewhat room for future paint correction!

I just bought a 95 Chevy Astro I been fixing it mechanically as I can due to my tight schedule, But I would like to get it paint. There is some what rust already showing around the windshield area and other places. The original color is white but it seems like it was painted again white but is starting to peal off from certain area.

My question is the following since I don't know much about body work all though I do know.....

  • @Rarerat Know when it comes to paint correction or paint restoration.

How hard is to get fix the rust, prep the paint and be able to paint it. I do have a garage and I would like to get the base color to be black and with some clear as well. So I can then be able to buff it to a shiny finish and then get my professional vinyl promotion install on the paint.

  • @nymxcar

I wouldn't say it's hard but it can be time consuming. 90% of the work to getting a nice paint job is in the prep, shooting the color & clear is the easy part. Just take your time and you will be fine.

  • Nicely done! What grit of sandpaper did you use to cut the clear?

  • @cbgraphics

Thank you, I started with 1500 and went over it again with 2000

  • hey would someone tell me what happened to 2:12? What's that substance smudged all over the car? What's the purpose of the process?

  • @s0krfreAk09

That is Clear residue after I wet sanded it with 2000 grit paper. I did this to make the clear perfectly flat so I could buff the car.

  • AMAZING BUT ONE QUESTION how did you paint the car did you use a gun

  • @YoGuy121

Thank you, I shot the car with a HVLP Gun.

  • Great job Rarerat ! Beautiful Color!

I have a 69 chevelle that color would look beautiful on, Is that a custom color? ,if not whats it called?

  • @deangelorock

Thank you for the kind words. The color was just a factory packed color called "Swift Red" from TCP Global.

Good luck with your 69 Chevelle, I really miss the 68 Chevelle I built right before this car. I shot it in Corvette Monza Red, & it was a pretty good looking car. If you search my videos you can see it.

  • hey man if u were to sell this car how much would you sell it for?

  • Thank you for saving one of the sexiest cars in automotive history.

  • @MickScarborough

Thank you for the kind words

  • Nice car, terrible music!

  • one word... beautiful!

  • @82SrG

    Thank you

  • great job on the paint Rarerat! It's got a nice mirror finish and looks very sharp!

  • @canadianboater

    Thank you

  • lol how many brain cells did you loose in the painting process??

  • @brucekirk89

    lol... hopefully not too many

  • nice camaro mine got wrecked a week ago

  • @left4dead481

Thank you, I am sorry to hear about your car getting wrecked. I hope it was not too bad.

  • hey i was wondering if you wouldnt mind telling me how much you had into paint and materials doing most of the work yourself? Thanks

  • Hey i was wondering if you wouldnt mind saying how much you had into paint and materials doing most of the labor yourself? Thank You

  • @17tax

I probably spent about 800.00 on painting materials

  • sorry to bug but what kind of spray gun did you use to paint your camaro?..........would you be kind enough also to let me know where i can get it. You inspire me to do the same thing, I just hope my work can come close to yours.

  • @vinamel97

Thank for the kind words & you are not bothering me. I just use a DeVilbiss FinishLine HVLP gun and you can buy them all over but I found a deal on this one form TCP Global.

    Thanks again & good luck

  • how did you paint your stripe? we painted the black, masked the stripe off, then sprayed the color. also did you use a stencil or anything? we just free handed it all and i turned out pretty well but I dont know what the factory dimensions are.

  • @emptycoffin93

I shot the Red base and then laid out the stripe with 1/8" fine line tape, covered the car with plastic and shot the Black base. Then, I just cleared the whole car and buried the stripe in the clear so you couldn't feel it.

  • @Rarerat One question are the pin stripes sprayed on or is it a sticker?

  • @XralphiX

I painted the stripe and then cleared over it so you couldn't feel it.

  • @Rarerat Nice impresive i never really thought of that to be honest with you lol man I'll tell you these camaro's are getting harder to find these day's and when you do find one they are sort of expensive.

  • my uncle has a '67 rs, its blue with american racing rims, i love that car, it was a project car for him to, love your car too. you did great on this car

  • @carfreak0729

    Thank you

  • Het Rarerat how long did it take you to restore this car??

  • @zacatecano36

Right about 18 months start to finish.

  • Hay Rarerat What color red is that ? Doing a 57 chevy pu and I would like to paint it red and I am still look for the right one !!!!! thanks and Wow nice car !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it !!!!!!!

    Mark

  • @57chevy350

Thank you for the kind words. The color was called "Swift Red" UB1703 and came from TCP Global.

    Thanks Again, Nick...(Rarerat)

  • You are very good at this! Love your work! I am restoring my 68 rs conv. It is not painted the org. color Maroon some one did a cheap paint job back in the 70's when my sister owned it, paint every thing 76 corvett red (even the door seals) Do you no if the bumper mounting brackets are body color or semi glosss black? Thank's

  • @laryman

Thank you for the kind words. The bumper brackets should be semi gloss black. I owned a Cordovan Maroon 68 some years ago and it is a really nice looking original color.

Thanks Again, & Good luck with your 68 RS Convert.

    Nick...(Rarerat)

  • Nice. Looks like you actually do your own work. Sure is alot of work isn't it?

  • @ricktt03

Thanks. Yes I do all of my own work. It is a lot of work, but I really enjoy doing it.

    Thanks Again, Nick...(Rarerat)

  • I do all my own work also perhaps you could check out my channel. ricktt03 We have much in common. Your paint looks great !

  • @ricktt03

Thank you, your car turned out amazing. Great job!!

  • @Rarerat

    Gday Nick!

I'm 17 living in Australia and i've had a passion in American as well as Australian Muscle cars most of my life, And I Love hearing about blokes like yourself restoring them. just wanted to know if you had any tips for someone of my age getting into this hobby?

I'm hoping for a mechanics apprenticeship to learn a bit more about vehicles and pursue my dream to restore muscle cars.

my favourite muscle cars are the:

    1969 Mustang BOSS 429

    1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS

  • @Mattco92

Best advice I could give is, just never give up and dont let people tell you you cant do something. Every time someone ever told me " you cant do that" it just inspired me more to prove them wrong. I made a bunch of people eat there words. LOL..

Good luck & follow your dreams

    Nick...(Rarerat)

  • @Rarerat

    great thankyou!

    i won't ever forget that.

  • thank you for not letting this go to a junkyard and rot to the ground

  • @swss12

Never would consider letting it rot. I would restore them all if I could.

    Thanks

  • Mine`s red, when i get it repainted i`m putting a white BB stripe round the front, i`ve got a stencil kit, i also like the Zstripes, would it look a bit funny with BB stipe at the front and other Zstripes going down the rear?

  • HI,

JMHO but If it were me, I would one or the other, but not both. Maybe if you want a add a bit more flash to the car , Black out the tail pan like a Big Block car.

Good luck & I hope this helps, Nick...(Rarerat)

  • Yeah i was going to do that - Matt black the rear panel. yeah the stripes was just a thought. Yep, decided, black rear panel. Thanks.

  • No problem, good luck

  • this is great I was wondering if it was possible to paint a car in a 2car garage now i know it is

  • Thanks, yes it is possible I have been doing it for years.

  • Great Job!

  • Thank you

  • excelent work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you

  • how did you clean ure gun when u were done

  • I clean it with lacquer thinner.

  • what would u think of a 67 camaro rs-ss being in 86 camaro iroc z28 blue color?

  • Hi, Sorry I missed this comment, I think it would look really nice. I have liked that IROC Blue, It reminds me a lot of Lemans Blue.

  • I`m getting mine resprayed, it`s red already and doing red again with white BB stripe

What colour red is this? and did you use a stencil kit for the stripe? thanks.

  • The color is called Swift Red. I think in part 7 I have a picture of everything I bought and you can see the code on the can.

I did not use a stencil, I just bought a 6.00 roll of that Blue 1/8 inch fine line tape and laid it out from scratch. It is pretty easy if you start at the emblems to get the correct spacing, or at least that is how I have always done it.

    Good luck, Nick...(Rarerat)

  • thats your opunion dude...^^ very nice car (like to have one of these) and a great song...whats the name of it? god save crazy america!!

  • Thanks, the name of the song is "Fine line" by Little Big Town

  • great car, bitch on audio. i dont listen to "country". thnx.

  • Thanks

  • nice car man. How much would you want for it if u decided to sell it. If will let me know because i will love to purchase it

  • Thanks. As of now I have no plans to sell the car, but I suspect when the car is finished it should be worth somewhere in the 23K - 25K range. It will basicly be a new car bumper to bumper.

    Thanks Again,

    Rarerat

  • How many coats of clear do you recommend for cutting and buffing?

  • Personally I do 3 or 4 nice wet coats.

  • great finish! cool ride! nice job

  • Thanks

  • Is this just a hobby, or do you do this also as a profession? auto body that is.

  • I just do in my spare time as a hobby. Although I have built cars for other people in the past.

  • Amazing Job!!!!

  • Thanks

  • I bought my RS at the beginning of my junior year in High school.I drove it through the winter and next summer. I tore it down so I wouldn't sell it or wreck it. After seeing your first video I started the task of rebuilding it. November 5th will be the 21 years I owned the car. Thanks for the motivation!! You have a sweet rs.

  • Cool story we have a lot in common. I bought my Yellow 68 SS/RS 396 while I was in High school back in 1980. I drove it all through school and off and on untill about 3 years ago when I spun a bearing at our local Drag stip. Dohhh!! I have been putting off restoring for years because I wanted to hone my skills on other cars that had less senimental value to me. Well as soon as I can get this little RS finished and my bank account has rebounded from this build, LOL... I plan to get started on it.

  • Good luck with your build and post some progress pics.

    Thanks, Nick...(Rarerat)

  • The car looks great !

  • Thanks, I am looking forward to getting started on the Black vinyl top, & all the trim.

  • How long have u been working on this project??? What kind of cars do u all have??

  • I have been working on this car in my spare time now for about a year.

Right now my wife & I own 4 First Generation Camaros & a 66 GT Mustang

  • wow thats really nice man nice work

  • Thanks

  • Nick, since you painted her the white raid was visible are you polished or rubbed out by sandpaper??

    With kind regards Saniok!! :))

  • Saniok,

I am not really sure what you mean by "White raid" but after I painted the car I blocked the car wet with 1000, then 1500, and finally 2000 grit sandpaper. I then buffed it with 3M Prefect-it with a wool pad first, and then went back over it with 3M Finesse-it with a foam pad. I still plan to go over it one more time after the clear has completly hardened with the 3M Finesse-it

    Thanks, Nick...(Rarerat)

  • wow great job so far...

    im speachless :)

    great car, great work

  • Thanks

  • i love that car so much u did great

  • Thanks
