What a fantastic paint job. Crazy how you did it so professionally in your own home garage. My next goal is to soup up my truck. Respect to you sir and enjoy your classic car :)
Fun project. Now was the 327 available on all First Gen Camaros? When I think '67-'69, I only think 307, 350, and 396. The sixties were an awesome time for engine choices!
@Rarerat Nice! gives you somewhat room for future paint correction!
I just bought a 95 Chevy Astro I been fixing it mechanically as I can due to my tight schedule, But I would like to get it paint. There is some what rust already showing around the windshield area and other places. The original color is white but it seems like it was painted again white but is starting to peal off from certain area.
My question is the following since I don't know much about body work all though I do know.....
@Rarerat Know when it comes to paint correction or paint restoration.
How hard is to get fix the rust, prep the paint and be able to paint it. I do have a garage and I would like to get the base color to be black and with some clear as well. So I can then be able to buff it to a shiny finish and then get my professional vinyl promotion install on the paint.
I wouldn't say it's hard but it can be time consuming. 90% of the work to getting a nice paint job is in the prep, shooting the color & clear is the easy part. Just take your time and you will be fine.
Thank you for the kind words. The color was just a factory packed color called "Swift Red" from TCP Global.
Good luck with your 69 Chevelle, I really miss the 68 Chevelle I built right before this car. I shot it in Corvette Monza Red, & it was a pretty good looking car. If you search my videos you can see it.
sorry to bug but what kind of spray gun did you use to paint your camaro?..........would you be kind enough also to let me know where i can get it. You inspire me to do the same thing, I just hope my work can come close to yours.
Thank for the kind words & you are not bothering me. I just use a DeVilbiss FinishLine HVLP gun and you can buy them all over but I found a deal on this one form TCP Global.
how did you paint your stripe? we painted the black, masked the stripe off, then sprayed the color. also did you use a stencil or anything? we just free handed it all and i turned out pretty well but I dont know what the factory dimensions are.
I shot the Red base and then laid out the stripe with 1/8" fine line tape, covered the car with plastic and shot the Black base. Then, I just cleared the whole car and buried the stripe in the clear so you couldn't feel it.
@Rarerat Nice impresive i never really thought of that to be honest with you lol man I'll tell you these camaro's are getting harder to find these day's and when you do find one they are sort of expensive.
my uncle has a '67 rs, its blue with american racing rims, i love that car, it was a project car for him to, love your car too. you did great on this car
Hay Rarerat What color red is that ? Doing a 57 chevy pu and I would like to paint it red and I am still look for the right one !!!!! thanks and Wow nice car !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it !!!!!!!
You are very good at this! Love your work! I am restoring my 68 rs conv. It is not painted the org. color Maroon some one did a cheap paint job back in the 70's when my sister owned it, paint every thing 76 corvett red (even the door seals) Do you no if the bumper mounting brackets are body color or semi glosss black? Thank's
Thank you for the kind words. The bumper brackets should be semi gloss black. I owned a Cordovan Maroon 68 some years ago and it is a really nice looking original color.
Thanks Again, & Good luck with your 68 RS Convert.
I'm 17 living in Australia and i've had a passion in American as well as Australian Muscle cars most of my life, And I Love hearing about blokes like yourself restoring them. just wanted to know if you had any tips for someone of my age getting into this hobby?
I'm hoping for a mechanics apprenticeship to learn a bit more about vehicles and pursue my dream to restore muscle cars.
Best advice I could give is, just never give up and dont let people tell you you cant do something. Every time someone ever told me " you cant do that" it just inspired me more to prove them wrong. I made a bunch of people eat there words. LOL..
Mine`s red, when i get it repainted i`m putting a white BB stripe round the front, i`ve got a stencil kit, i also like the Zstripes, would it look a bit funny with BB stipe at the front and other Zstripes going down the rear?
JMHO but If it were me, I would one or the other, but not both. Maybe if you want a add a bit more flash to the car , Black out the tail pan like a Big Block car.
The color is called Swift Red. I think in part 7 I have a picture of everything I bought and you can see the code on the can.
I did not use a stencil, I just bought a 6.00 roll of that Blue 1/8 inch fine line tape and laid it out from scratch. It is pretty easy if you start at the emblems to get the correct spacing, or at least that is how I have always done it.
Thanks. As of now I have no plans to sell the car, but I suspect when the car is finished it should be worth somewhere in the 23K - 25K range. It will basicly be a new car bumper to bumper.
I bought my RS at the beginning of my junior year in High school.I drove it through the winter and next summer. I tore it down so I wouldn't sell it or wreck it. Yes the 327 was the base V8 in 67, 68 & part of the 69 model year. Mid way thru 69 they replaced the 327 as the base V8 with a 307.

That is Clear residue after I wet sanded it with 2000 grit paper. I did this to make the clear perfectly flat so I could buff the car.
