  • @MotherFan666 I'm just surprised you knew what he was saying!

  • @MotherFan666 it's gruce......i thought it was a German word?

  • who the fuck is bruce?

  • @SPADED1269 it's actaully GRUCE .....which i think is a German word. i'll go on wikipedia and get back to you...but that's what i remember it being, i know it's not Bruce.

  • Man Bruce.. you got ME!!!!!!

  • @MotherFan666 Its actually swedish but close enough LOL!

  • I played this song so much when it came out my best friend said he would come back when I scratched the record thats how I like it

  • 12 people need to have their ears adjusted...

  • I listened to this all the time in my car where everyone wanted to know the song now thanks to super8 my fun is over

  • love the song! what is SUPER8? the video is kinda goofy though.

  • @donnydcyclops super 8 is a movie that has this song playing at the beginning and end of the movie.

  • @MotherFan666 THANK YOU!!!! I have been wondering that for years!!!!...lol

  • Who is this BRUCE dude that ELO doesn't want to bring them down? I have always thought that it was BRICE JENNER!

  • jeff fuckin lynn

  • thumbs up if you liked this song before super 8 came out. my dad used to play this when i was younger.

  • paul

  • omg there gangbanging that poor piano xD

  • Proof positive that you can't have rock 'n' roll without chicks with huge thighs, hot dogs, and perms.

  • Dude, LOVE ELO. After having to spend 5 days deciding which band is better, ELO or Aerosmith, I would have shot myself in the mouth. I decided to learn how to play the guitar just so I could play this song for my school. Thumbs freaking up if you think Rock n' roll never dies and ELO and Aerosmith were the king bands of Rock. Every time I hear both bands I will remember the good times and great memory of the good old '70's and 80's.

  • @bonzaithe1st

elo and aerosmith are great bands dont get me wrong i love them. but the kings of rock n roll are the stones and led fucking zeppelin

  • there actually saying groooos but so many people think its bruce so at some concerts they just started saying bruce

  • Just finished watching this 9000 times.

  • I so belong in the 70's.

  • who is bruce indeed!?!?!?!?!?!

  • this song grabs you by the boo boo..........

  • The German word is Grüß, like Grüß dich or Grüß Gott. It's a form of greeting, like saying "God Bless" or "Have a blessed day". Vaguely religilicious. Does not translate in any way to "friend".

@ BobTheSkeleton : well, it's definitely not about Bruce Campbell - he never lets you down.

  • @starofinanna yeah thats rite bruce has never let anyone down long live ash

  • ELO was such a strange mixture of musicians and instruments but it was just so damn good.

  • Heard it on " Are idiot brother Trailer "

  • 12 peeps got brought down!

  • Damn those are some great mustaches these guys are sporting.

  • @DelormeStorm

What about hair dos. it's all about the dues back in the day for it was a fashion trend back then.

  • On ELO Storytellers on VH1 2001, Jeff talked about "grrrroooooossss". When recording the song, their German engineer asked him why they were saying that German word and Jeff said he didn't know it was a word. The German guy said it was and that it meant good greetings, so Jeff said okay and went along with it. If you ever catch it in re-runs, you'll see him talk about it.

  • This song always brings back great memories! It's also very helpful to remember the key lyrics whenever you happen to be around negative people/workplace; etc. Anyway, Jeff Lynne has my undying respect as the man who produced the two Beatles reunion singles in the 90s! An earlier comment cites Paul McCartney's statement that the Beatles would have become ELO if they hadn't broke up. High praise, indeed!!

  • @xaramf - yeah, those were the days my friend.

  • He's actually say a made up word, it sounds like "Gruse". Wikipedia says he was attempting for it to be similar to the german word for Greeting??? but thats if you trust old wiki

  • The Jeff Lynne wig and specs still scores mad trim around closing time at the bars!

  • "Give Sonny a bottle of your best champagne... " you oughta get him a taylor while you're at it!"

  • Who the fuck is Bruce? and why does he want to bring me down . . . .

  • Preuss -- a German nonsense word

  • From 3:20 to 3:23, it looked as if Cocaine was coming out of the drum set.

  • True strutting song

  • I just saw super 8

  • @alexkabana WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! ME TOO !

  • @alexkabana best movie ever right

  • @alexkabana best movie ever right by the way whats the other song in the credits

  • the beegees finally reached puberty

  • Whenever a movie uses this song in it's trailer I know right away it's going to be garbage

  • Super 8 :) but the song would still be awesome anyway

  • Holy shit the 70's musta been awesome.

  • @Toastcano718 Pretty much the music was the only good part of it.

  • @Toastcano718 Nah u buggin

  • Who is Bruce, and why is he always trying to bring people down?!?

  • Lady Gaga incorporated part of this melody in the verse part of her song Bad Romance, especially the "don't bring me down, no no no no no" part where she sings "I want your love"

  • @llabful Fucking Gaga...

  • ELO took The Beatles' style of music and nuked it with high octane electricity....RIP JEFF!

  • @TheStjimmy33 He's not dead. Actually Paul McCartney said if the Beatles hadn't broke up they would've became ELO.

  • Thumbs up if you just watched Donnie Brasco

  • @MetalMegs99 Yes! "You ought buy him a taylor while you're at it!

  • eleven o'clock. twelve o'clock. eleven o'clock. twelve o'clock. eleven o'clock. twelve o'clock.

  • saw this on vh1 yearsss ago. hahaha im just kidding,,, im a little kid who heard this in super 8. thats right im so sic

  • 1979!!! Unforgettable!!!

  • Listening to this while cruising down the freeway in my '73 plymouth duster with the windows down.. good times

  • One of my favorite songs, but please, PLEASE, tell me what is with the blinking hot dog in the beginning and the middle?

  • Don't bring me fart!

  • @dynelol wow realy

  • @wantstoScooter

    Don't bring me faaaaaarrrrrrrtttttttt *POOT!*

  • Jeff says that the engineer Mack said That the word "Groos" meant "Hello" in German...However,people would hear it and sing back,"Bruuce" as in,yes,Springsteen,so,Jeff added,"That's how we sang it from that time on!"

  • @mrmjb1960 lol Groos does not mean Hello in german....

  • I so remember this song. Heard this song on the radio this morning. Was singing along and reminiscing. Ahh the good times.

  • Sound so....Groovy! :D

  • I love this song & I don't know what is the Super 8! LOL

  • @LadyCureNob89 "Super 8", not "The Super 8", was a movie released in June 2011 directed by JJ Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg. Fantastic movie and awesome song choice.

  • @KB24numba1fan ahhhh ok, anyway haven't seen it yet! LOL I know ELO through my parents :D

  • Classic track!! 8)

  • DONNIE BRASCO!!

  • GRAND THEFT AUTO VICE CITY!!

  • @SpartanEgg Srsly? c'mon, man.

  • @SpartanEgg i havent seen the movie SUPER 8, but i know the Bye Bye love song was in there from the CARS too

  • The most catchy song ever!

  • This was on the radio the other day and me and my friend just started singing along at the top of our lungs, great moment I tell you what.

  • I've never even seen Super 8 or Paul....

  • Im Lost who's Bruce?

  • @GOD355OFWAR rod stewarts alter ego.

  • Comment removed

  • @GOD355OFWAR It's supposed to be gruse, they changed it because many Americans like yourself couldn't retaliate to it, gruse means "greetings" in German. So they changed it to bruse.

  • @GOD355OFWAR Robert the Bruce of Scotland. William Wallace originally wrote the lyrics.

  • I've never seen paul and was very pleasantly surprised when I heard it in super 8. I heard of this song much longer ago than that.

  • This song is so good

  • who cares what genre it fits in, it's a cracking good pop record, hasn't dadted or aged at all.

  • Paul, brought me here :D

  • Best video ever among those that contain Pulsating Frankfurters

  • who is Bruce? and why is he going to let me down?

  • @BobTheSkeleton Oh my gosh. I just spat out my coffee. So funny!

  • @BobTheSkeleton its gruce and dont ask i have no fucking clue what a gruce is . its a british thing .

  • @BobTheSkeleton they're not actually saying Bruce, the word that sounds like Bruce is just a word that singer made up....apparently.

  • @iAreApeanutButterCup Yeah, they're NOT saying 'Bruce' - they're saying 'GROOSE' ... which I guess is just an odd way to pronounce 'GROSS' ?

  • @MasterUnholyWar I don't know....either way, it doesn't make sense haha

  • @BobTheSkeleton What is actually sung is "grroosss" - whatever the Hell that means.

  • @BobTheSkeleton The word they actually used was the german world "Groose" (spelled wrong cause I dont know the symbol used that looks like a backwards "b" and "r" ) but it means, loosly translated "friend" so... yeah... no bruse was harmed in the making of this song. HA! yeah I did.

  • @BobTheSkeleton he's talking about bruce springsteen, and how he always wrote sad ballad songs.

  • I remember when Jeff Lynne / ELO was roasted for this song being so "Disco" at the height of the disco era. Jeff has the last laugh as it's now played on classic rock stations and considered one of the great songs of any era.

    Good one Jeff!

  • Bruce, why you keep trying to bring me down, brah?

  • omigod..this song brings so many memories ..our family will go on camping an at night they will all dance to this song..we wer so lilltle but i remeber..

  • I first heard this song in the movie "Paul" and haven't been able to stop listening to it. It Jazzes me up especially when it plays on the radio while im driving!

  • Why does everyone relate this song to super 8? it's a good movie and all, but why can't we relate it to ELO and their genius?

  • this is one of the greats, !!!

  • This song sounded pretty advanced for 1979

  • @larueda992 The bands of the 70s that sound advance Return to Forever,Pink Floyd,Gary Numan,Genesis,Yes,YMO,The Headhunter's just to name a few

  • Wow! I heard this song in the trailer of Adam Sandler's new movie Jack & Jill, and now I can't stop listening to it!

  • PULL

  • Comment removed

  • This guy's body weight in the 70s was probably around 10% cocaine at any given point

  • @xaramf Laughing forever lolololol

  • @xaramf so what?

  • @xaramf But the rest of his body weight was of musical talent! :D

  • this song and "My Sharona" will forever remindme of Super 8!

  • Thumbs up if Paul the alien movie brought you here ;-)

  • Thank God there are only 10 people named Bruce.

  • I think the whole Discovery album is great, i think it their best album. A Piece Of Gold

  • I listened to this before Super 8, but I'm glad they used it in the movie. It's better than that hip hoppy crap they play now.

  • Thumbs up if Super 8 brought you here

  • He actually doesn't say bruce it's actually a made up word gruce

  • @jahaines579 But because so many people thought it was bruce, he ended up changing it.

  • I'm 4 years old and I love this song

  • i heard that jeff wrote this song because skylab was falling out of orbit and was getting ready to burn up in earths atmospere. did anybody hear the same thing?

  • @jw12061 No.... however it would make sense as to why the song was chosen to be used in the movie Paul! Since it's about an alien etc...

  • @wendynicholson1 I heard the song was written about skylab falling back to earth because there was nothing to boost it's orbit

  • @jw12061 i did

  • Hell, I'm young and I'm not ignorant. This shit is classic <3

  • Thumbs Up if you are not twelve years old and realize this was a huge world wide hit in 1979 long before Super 8, Paul or any other movie it was in. It was Gold record and #4 in the US.

  • @headly66 It's still a good song, it may have been rediscovered by many adults after seeing the movie. I know that's what happened to both of my parents. And it also peaked my interest..so as long as people are listening to this and not the crap on the radio..it's a win win situation, am i right?

  • @headly66 one of the best comments I have ever seen on youtube

  • @headly66 but Paul helped me rediscover E.L.O.!!!! :) I was so happy when I heard this song in the film!

  • @headly66 this was in super 8 i didnt hear it

  • @headly66 i didnt mention ass you dumb asshole haha

  • @sneakysnakeh4xor Great English, are you 10 years old?

  • @headly66 Yes, I realize what a hit this song was in 1979 and have loved it for a long time which is why it was so awesome to hear it in the movie; especially one based in 1979 with a nostalgic vibe for the times and music.

  • @headly66 i am twelve but i loved this song for a while

  • he is actually saying a made-up word "Grroosss"

  • This song is from the 1979 album Discovery,

    Other singles from Discovery:

    Shine a Little Love,

    On the Run,

    Confusion,

    Last Train To London

    The Diary of Horace Wimp.

  • Super 8 Brought me Here!

  • "don't bring me down" is what Casey Anthony said to Caylee. She then went out with her fancy friends and lived it up! wooohooo!!

  • I had this album when it first came out! I loved it! Was the follow-up album to "Out Of The Blue" I think...

  • bruce quit spittin' on my jars

  • For the love of CHRIST people this song existed long before the movie "Super 8".

And it was not obscure either - it was a huge hit.
