AS Roma.....DISHONOURABLE, CHEATING, LOWLIFE.

As if the conduct of the AS Roma players, fans and officials that day was not bad enough, some of the comments on here from presumably Roma fans are outrageously disrespectful and showing an obvious unwillingness to accept just how badly your club's reputation reached as a result of that semi final. This is not about winning or losing, this is about honesty, dignity and honour. AS Roma had none of these in April 1984.

@Aidankiwi, let me start saying that the UEFA fair-play award was introduced in 1995. Moreover the points are shared by all representative teams from a football association, hence all teams contribute to the score, not just one.

I can't speak for the abusive language or the spitting as I wasn't on the pitch in either games. Were you? In the end the score said 3-0, and it's very hard to argue with it.

Check your facts. Dundee United were awarded the very first Fair Play award in 1987 after the UEFA Cup final v IFK Goteborg. The award was specially created that year by UEFA to acknowledge the sportsmanship of the Dundee United fans in applauding the victorious IFK team. But then IFK were a team with honour, dignity and did not try to bribe officials. They did not try to stir up hatred by generating false accusations of drug taking.

@Aidankiwi the "Fair Play Award" is issued by FIFA, not UEFA :-) Secondly the award was given to the "fans", not the team. It's admirable to have fans recognized nevertheless. The bribe allegation/accusation resulted in a fine by UEFA to Roma because it remained an attempt. There was no influence whatsoever on the final result because UEFA fully reviewed all available facts.

Bare in mind that trash talking is common to all professional pitches.

They succeeded in generating an atmosphere of hatred I have never seen anywhere else. I'm not disputing the result of the match. It is the conduct of the Roma players officals and fans. The award made by UEFA to Dundee United FC in 1987 was called the UEFA FAIR PLAY AWARD. Something Roma will never win.

@Aidankiwi Just for the record: In this match, two goals scored by Bruno Conti were invalidated, a crucial player like Maldera was given a yellow card which cost him the final and in the last two minutes a Dundee player badly fouled against Falcao who was already injured. If you looked at the whole match, it was a great example of fair play and the referee, Mr. Vautrot was impeckable, AS Roma won the match without any favour or dubious decision

Holland who revolutionized soccer in the 1970's and were twice WC finalists and Uruguay who have won 2 WC's.
