@melancholyrock that's because you were running it to lean. In 2 strokes the gas and oil mixture is what lubricates the crank. With out that good amount of oil in there it will cause heat, which will cause friction and engine parts will wear. And eventually it will seize like what happened to you.
any movement in the piston pin, or rod , by twisting, or up/down is bad. When tolerences are correct , the piston, piston pin and connecting rod to the pin should have a VERY SLIGHT drag on them .
I did a huge mistake on my moped. I always refuel with less oil mixture because otherwise the muffler always wanted to be soot, (and the soot started to make the moped very slow). After some weeks/months, my "crankshaft" was broken and the engine just stoped when i was going for a ride.. I noticed that the piston couldn't go up and down in the cylinder. I opened the whole engine but decided to buy a used one

Thats cockling, when the twist of the conecting rod can be felt.. Its time to replace iy.
Any twisting felt in the con rod is the main bearings, but yes side to side is ok..

thats nothing. my rm 250 actually blew the rollers on the lower roller bearing and deminished them all over the inside if my cases.

If it twists, then it is starting to get worn.
