Fitting that he got a goal and an assist in his last ever game for Arsenal. Henry relied on his athleticism, Bergkamp was pure genius with and without the ball.
use other clips of wider camera angles showing him splitting the defense.. u keep using close ups .. it doesnt do justice on the beauty of some of his assists
in bergkamp era...they play far more better than arsenal today, i just finish watch arsenal loose to fulham at craven cottage...they don't even have that hunger for goal, rather just passing it around, playing the ball...IN THE PENALTY AREA....
One of the greatest ever in my opinion not just for his obvious skill but because he truly loved the game. He never had a bad word to say to anyone, never dived and always played to win. We need more players like this and less divas like ronaldo.
I know, you represent a history of Arsenal, but you would do a great job, if you did all Dennis's assist at national team. There he did some more wonders
A lot of people are requesting the songs so I put them at the bottom of the description. Thanks for all the kind comments guys. Makes it all worth it!
I think we must define what an 'assist' first, because I prefer to think that Bergkamp shouldn't be credited for some of these goals (e.g. #1, #5). If the other player (Ian Wright in the two previous mentioned cases) had more that 2 touches after the so-called killer pass, then that's it... otherwise we'll have chaos about what is an assist and what isn't. Thanks.
@Qsmngy an assist is the last pass before scoring, so if the goalie passed the ball to a defender and he proceeded to run the ball up the pitch and score then that is an assist.
@Qsmngy On number 1 he played Wright in on goal it was a beautiful assist, number 5 was just a simple pass which wright proceeded to make a goal all alone, which still counts as Dennis' assist.
First it was Bergkamp/Wright then Bergkamp/Henry then Fabregas/Henry then Fabregas/Van Persie , now we don't have an assist machine in midfield to feed Van Persie.
Great video but you should let the audio (and sometimes the video) transition a little better. It seems to be too quick to change to the next clip sometimes, you should at least leave it for the commentator to finish his sentence or word.
@WillzAFC I considered that but then the video would've been another 5 minutes long or so. I thought 13 minutes was pushing people's patience as it was.
Yes, he has more ... Wikipedia says:'' Most Premier League assists – 147, Dennis Bergkamp.'' And plus, assists at national team, Ajax, and Internationale
@nrekk I took on board a lot of the criticism that was given to me for that video. When people criticise my work, which of course happens from at least 1 person per video, I do take it on board. It's not nice to read but it's what improves me.
For me, Bergkamp is the best player ever, you can say what you want, that he doesn't have a great achievement, didn't have Champions League, Ballon d'or or the World Cup but he could do anything, he scored the best goals ever, he has the best skill ability, he is master class, he is an ARTIST before a goal scorer, he is a total football player, he doesn't need speed or power, Bergkamp has vision of the game, pass, quality, and skills. Bergkamp has no equivalent.
@indaks007 I agree, and i think theo will move upfront and alex will start his wing cycle to get him ready and be mentored by van persie to be the false nine (wenger said he has more midfield quality) but he has a strikers eye.
What stands out for me is how Bergkamp is always there and you see legends like Ian Wright, Overmars to Anelka and Henry come and go but Bergkamp is always the common denominator, feeding these strikers.
To me its funny how everyone talks of this great 9 and 10 partnership between henry and bergkamp with berkamp playing in the hole. There were only like 3 or 4 assists of this nature between bergkamp and henry. Wrighty and dennis on the other hand . .what a partnership.
what this video also shows is the players making those diagonal runs..which i see no one making in the current team...at that time players would make those runs and bergkamp would put them through but now with the amount of "dumb" players we have they just want the ball at their feet unwilling to make those sort of runs..it just pains me whenever i watch these old arsenal videos..because it only makes it so much clearer what we are missing..
@denniswizard1 I get your point, we were blessed with several brilliant players off the ball, but Wenger has stuck to that philosophy and the movement of our front 3 currently is very good. The main difference is that they just aren't as efficient as the old lot. We are still making so many, many chances - we just aren't putting them away.
If Gervinho and Walcott can reach Van Persie's standard of finishing we'll do something special.
@cwdcomps the movement of Gervinho and Walcott is good...ok...but i never see them make those runs like ljunberg did...actually in that team..almost every one made those runs from deep...even Vieira..both Gervinho and Walcott move in straight "vertical" lines generally...but our midfield does not even make those runs
and if they go through also...it brings me to my next point which is Decision making and they generally make the wrong one..I think only RVP and Arteta seem like the sensible heads
@denniswizard1 I completely agree. And another thing we had back then was combination between two strikers. That Bergkamp goal against Man Utd comes to mind from 2004-05. I would really like the 4-4-2 make a comeback. RVP can be very isolated at times. The 4-4-2 opens up the channels for the strikers while our midfielders made runs from deep. The amount of goals from midfield we got back then was incredible, and the 4-4-2 actually encourages that at times.
@sacablush True. This season the games could have really been different btw,had our players finished even..ummm..say one-fifth of their chances(mainly pointing out Theo,Gervinho and Ramsey).Ours is anyways not a 4-3-3 like everyone keeps saying...at least i don't think it is..it is more of 4-3-2-1.
@denniswizard1 You are spot on with the crossing problems. What was great with Henry and Bergkamp is that they had that ruthless streak to them; they could also score "poucher's goals". RVP is getting better at being more of a poucher, and I can't ask anything more from him at the moment. But it seems like it takes literally 10 crosses for someone to genuinely attack one of them.
@sacablush One more concern I have is,when Theo and Gervinho have the ball out wide..there is absolutely no one in the box that they can cross it in to except RVP(pretty much your point of Isolation) and the worst part is no one is even trying to get into the box.I think Vermaelen made it pretty clear in that goal against Fulham that having an extra body in the box has its benefits but they don't seem to understand. And also u know Chamakh will miss so its better to stand behind him and score :P
We have such talent but we had berkamp feeding wright, anelka, henry everyone, our player who can do that a.k.a wilshere is injured, when he comes back u have him arteta and song and ramsey in the middle to feed RVP or walcott who can feed RVP, what we need is that midfielder. we need wilshere back
@TheDelmonteQuality see...there is definitely no lack of chances in any match that we play...we create plenty of them...but then no one finishes them...
and what i was saying was not for Bergkamp...it was for the rest...they made the runs...this team...they don't make those runs...Wilshere can turn provider when he comes back but then he needs someone to make those runs....lose the defenders so that he can slot them in..Pace alone is not good enough..
@denniswizard1 its crazy that its the same coach who has transformed his team from taking those lethal diagonal runs to now being releuctant to take any of those runs..only gervinho sometimes and walcott does
@cwdcomps It's still surprising how few of those assists had Henry on the end of them. Sure it seemed like he set Wright, Overmars, Anelka, Wiltord and Ljungberg up more times than Henry. If anything that makes even more sense as to why they were such a deadly duo, with Bergkamp setting up everyone who wasn't Henry, while Henry kept knocking them away regardless.
@JohnnyMaverik Yeah, it was definitely a bit of a myth that the partnership was as good as made out. The wingers at Arsenal moved in behind the lines like strikers though so Bergkamp actually had more joy picking them out - Overmars, Pires, Ljungberg (as you mentioned).
Henry assisted Bergkamp a surprising amount though actually. Would be interesting to see who assisted who the most between the two of them.
@JohnnyMaverik According to my calculations: Bergkamp assisted Henry 13 times and Henry assisted Bergkamp 8 times. So about a 10th of Bergkamp's assists were for Henry, when also considering that Henry wasn't there for his first 5 seasons then I think that's a fairly respectable total. Bergkamp assisted Ian Wright 14 times, only 1 more than he assisted for Henry!
@cwdcomps Yea.Plus these are only pure assists..like the last pass before the goal(maybe something u get points for in the fantasy leagues). It does not include pre-assists,which was a major thing back then...Bergkamp generally opened up the field for the players and a goal was scored from that.
@denniswizard1 Yeah that's true. According to the database I use Bergkamp had 72 pre-assists too. Overall that's 308 goals he had some clear involvement in from 416 appearances. Sensational really when you consider everything else he offered to the team too. His work rate often went unnoticed and he could slow down the play when that's what the game required.
No player will ever be as technically perfect or as intelligent as Dennis Bergkamp for Arsenal.
Number 14 perfectly reflects his whole football carreer, elegant and smooth, yet simply and 100% effective. I'm glad I had the opportunity to watch him play in Highbury, it was amazing and I'll never forget it.
What a video, just class. I feel like I have a weakness for the past. It feels like we will never see an Arsenal like this again. They were just made for each other and that made the strong aura back then. The Arsenal of today feels lighting years further but it has just been 7 years since the team totally split up.
Fredrik Ljungberg and Thierry Henry have this man's brilliance to thank for their greatness. I'm quite certain they wouldn't have become the lovely players they did hadn't it been for Bergkamp *making* them shine.
WONDERFUL music choices bro.....Really makes you appreciate the craftsmanship and art this guy produced....Thank you Dennis and thank you cwdcomps. Great Christmas Present :)
Another huge thank you mate, this is another great idea you've come up with:) Us Arsenal fans really enjoy your videos mate, I love Dennis, a true professional, you'd never see him in the press, or demanding higher wages or anything like that, hes a credit to football. And a true gunner, We love you dennis, and we love you cwdcomps :)
Most Under-rated footballer out there! deserves to be with Zidane and maradona ! hes in a class of his own just like Zidane ! There can only be 1 dennis bergkamp! our iceman :')
