I do this Chris. I have a 10,000rpm raptor drive with a (rather pathetic) 140GB capacity. I then also have a 1TB standard speed hard drive that I use for storage. Documents, music, videos, everything else goes straight on there. I've reinstalled/switched OS countless times and all my data has remained unspoiled.
i agree but there's one thing i don't like, that are partitions because if your making a part of your C: drive to the E: drive then your not making the C: smaller and as i am right now my c drive is FULL there is no space and i'm using everything in it so i can't really delete anything, i have read some post about software like partition magic and some other but they have had some downsides(not really bad onces though). and also about it, if the hard drive fails both the partitons will fail.
Somebody should try installwindows on a commodore 64 ( remember the machine from the 80s lol....and lots of ram and hd.and a cool intel processer..JUST FOR FUN:) im weird ok .
I totally forgot to move all my pictures to my second hard drive. Thank you for reminding me! Can you have the system restore files put on the 2nd drive?
I'm a newby at computer stuff, but i want to add a second HD and i was wondering if there are different kinds of HDs, like there are different kinds of ram (3200 or 2700)? If so do i need my 2nd hard drive to be the same kind?
Biology major not computer and foreigner so no fancy language please and thank you.
Yes, there are different types of hard drives. There are new solid-state drives which, in my opinion are better than regular HDDs... As for what kind of hard drive you need, you should probably check your current hard drive to see what connection it uses and then buy a hard drive with the same connection(PATA, SATA, etc.) For traditional HDDs, you may also want to look at drive speed... If your a gamer, get the faster HDD, for everyday use, it doesn't really matter.
hey whats up? just wondering does anyone know how i could go about installing leopard on a second internal harddrive in my macpro so that i could have tiger and leopard on the same machine and i won't have to do a fresh install? any suggestions would be greatly appreciate :). ttyl & have a nice day <333 Ashley
i cant live without my second hard drive. lol. j/k, but its very useful for quick backup or just for storing files. it is a hassle to back up everything when u reinstall windows. plus i need alot of space for all my crap.

you can set up the "hdd ram" (page file) on any hdd. (this is true for win 2000/xp/vista to my knowledge and probably others) Setting up the page file on the second harddrive will also greatly increase the speed your computer runs at.
For maximum performance set up your page file on a newly formatted harddrive, which your operating system does not boot from, in the first partition. You will see a SUBSTATIAL speed increase after doin this
You can use multiple drives for RAID. Where one hard drives copies to another in real time. So if one goes bad the other is still there. Or... you can have them run together faster by putting files back and forth on each drive to increase speed.
The way OsX handles applications is so nice. It allows me to install the bigger sized programs on my external drive, which keeps the built in drive nice and clean.
no he is hoping some one will give him a Mac Pro... If we are going to continue to talk about who is right about what is said, reffer to me asking "him", not you, if he gets paid for talking about OS X. If he likes it cool, i think it is ok too, its not great and i think its funny he sells himself out for a Mac pro but its cool. The original reason why i was asking is because he got his hopes up when he looks at his screen and is speaking of Mac's!
Ripping DVD's onto your computer takes a lot of space uncompressed...(like around 8GB) Just think about if you tried to rip blu-ray disc onto your computer...(50GB).... about 19 blu-ray discs would fit on a 1TB hard drive... Not that many...
Great videos Chris. Looking to add a 2nd one.

Hell, you could use a fricken Blu-Ray disc as a hard drive! O.o Those things store epic amounts!
mankyman6 2 years ago
I think it is possible, but a dual-layer blue ray disc is only up to about 50GB, HDs go up to about 10TB

its good for vista you'll see the difference if you have a 1GB MEM. Vista uses your second hdd as ram
