Very good explanation! I too was a little concerned and confused on how to co-witness my optics with a fixed A2 front post and wasn't aware of the lower 1/3 co-witness option. Kudos! Great video!
One question....how did you determine the height of the mounting bracket to use? Trial and error, or did you measure from the top of the rail to the center of the optic + 1/4 inch? I'm sure you have a good explanation and I'm eager to hear. Thanks again for a great video!
If you are using lower 1/3 and your optic goes down you said you just pop downward on to the irons, won't it be shooting differently and be less accurate?
Outstanding information! Just based on your assessment, I would have to agree with you. I like the idea of having a less cluttered field of view. Thanks again for the great videos.
WOW!!!!! I just got an Aimpoint ML3 and I didnt know about Absolute Cowitness and Lower 1/3 Cowitness, and I tried to read about online and went to shooting forums and spent hours trying to understand it, then I found your video and understood it in 8:12min. Thank You so much and God Bless you cause now I can go to sleep in peace knowing what the heck Im gonna do now !!!!!! Thanks Again and you got a new sub, Safe Shooting............
Awesome Video! I have a Eotech 516 on my AR running Troy front and real battle sights and didn't know if I needed risers or not. I think I am going to stay with the 1/3 CW setup I have now. Thanks for the info.
I wanted to add something, sometimes the dot will not be perfectly centered over the front sight post, if your windage on the rear sight is off say 10 clicks or the front sight tower is canted you may have the dot off to one side slightly. Some manufactures don't make every thing perfect so you might have a canted sight or upper.
@carmas54 They say bigger MOAs make target aquisition easier. Personally i don't think that's the case, the smaller MOA is more accurate also. If you think it's too small, an EOtech style circle with the dot centered might make it easier.
First of all thanks for the upload, but I'm having a hard time understanding how 1/3 cw can be accurate. Won't the bullet hit where top of the front post is? (with 1/3 cw aren't you shooting several inches above your intended target when using a red dot).
I recently bought a red dot to put on my flat top AR but it covered about 7/8 of my top rail so I put a rail extension on the front end of it (It hangs about 4" over my handguard). but now it sits 1/4' higher than before. will this work?
Thanks sir, good unbiased explanation.
Thanks for your service

@sforristall37 If you zero your irons independently of the optic, you'll be able to shoot just fine.

What rear sight setup are you using at 5:09? Are you disconnecting it for illustration purposes, or is it falling simply out of camera view at 5:14.
stosh3 3 months ago
@stosh3 that is a folding backup iron sight. It is still attached to the rifle, but has been folded out of the way.
