I've always thought that it be interesting to make a film from the Persian perspective as miller and snyder have said the book and the movie are the battle from the Pan Hellen perspective so if we changed the perspective we'd have an entirely different way of seeing it.
@donlantez They were they had the one of the best cav the world have seen, but in war it isnt about the warrior that wins battles it's the tactics and how do you use those warriors, Leonidas was smart to have gone to the Hot Gates the Horse Archers of Persia couldn't scooped around to shoot behind the phalanx.
So maybe the band fits vikings better, but who better then Spartans are Gods of War? Besides I think Odin would accept Spartans into Valhalla if they showed up.

@sebastian114 Sorry to disappoint you but every one knowes that Sweden is not a war nation, just take WW2 for an example, Sweden have not been in war since Karl 12. Indeed Sweden have a greater army but Norway have much more modern fighting experience and we where the most famous vikings ;)
@sLoWnecks sweden has the longest holding peace ever but in ww2 we had taken sides if you know ww2 history you know sweden played a great roll in it but we didnt fight. also swedish vikings did quite alot in the world but most of them was tradesmen :P but sure norway has alot more experience but most of the modern warfare technology exists in sweden we are quite advanced in our army. but one thing :P when has sweden ever backed down when they needed to fight? hehe ;P

I have not heard of any major resistance from the swedish army during the war, I know of the peoples disagreement with that Sweden did not aid Norway but the fact is that Sweden did not do any major resistance they allowed the germans to pass trough their cities as long as they did not attack them. Yes maybe some planes where shot down but I doubt that was in the meaning of aiding.

you know what guys, i honestly think that the story of the 300 versus a million from xerxes army is one of the most inspiring stories i've ever read and to see it on the movie 300 and get a small glimpse into what it must have been like makes me awed at their survival, i respect the spartans and greek history and mythology a great deal, i can only hope to aspire to be so strong and brave as those men were.
@areshart666 The spartans had with them 7000 other greeks who fought with them in thermopylae, and thumasticles won a battle against 6x more warships than he had, wasn't for him thermopylae and greek civilitaion wouldn't of happened.

@serzh123aaa Its true that spartans had with them more Greeks, a total of 4000 men from all over Greece with Leonidas as leader but when they faced the Persian army Leonidas ordered the 3000 to go back and prepare a bigger army and he remained there with 300 spartans and 700 thespians to delay Persians till the rest Greeks were ready!
@serzh123aaa as Oroposgr said, it were a total of 1000 greeks in the fight, or maybe 1300. as for thumasticles, it is Themistocles, an athenian general. Than naval fight happened near Pireus (Salamina) and victory was due to greek fast and mobile ships fighting in narrow passage with persian big slow ships.
@serzh123aaa actually it's counted 4k to 7.5k. But in the last stand, there remained 1.5k greeks, consisting of 300 Spartans, 700 Thespians and 400 Thebans.

@MyGothic3 yep thats very true, i can't remember if it was the spartans that came up with the tactics concerning the shields or if it was the romans...i think it was the spartans first and the romans copied their tactics later on down the road :)
@areshart666 historically the spartans used such heavy shields, which made them almost invulnerable to attacks. the romans used the famous tower shields in an advanced way, with the "turtle" formation. And of course the spartans were first, rome was a small village at the time, nothing like later on.

@MyGothic3 yep thats very true, i can't remember if it was the spartans that came up with the tactics concerning the shields or if it was the romans...i think it was the spartans first and the romans copied their tactics later on down the road :)

@areshart666 historically the spartans used such heavy shields, which made them almost invulnerable to attacks. the romans used the famous tower shields in an advanced way, with the "turtle" formation. And of course the spartans were first, rome was a small village at the time, nothing like later on.

@grufeetywy in fact i made a translation error : in german language, the word "Germanen" is used for all the ancient peoples in middle,east and north europe, (for example Goths, Vandals, Saxons, Vikings etc.).
What you call "germans" in english (the inhabitants of the "modern" state, for example Gerhard Schröder), is called "Deutsche" in german. Otherwise the word "Norse" is assiociatet with Norway in german. It seems to be a "false Friend" to translate "germanisch" with "german"
