Thanks to the US for supporting Aus. Seems like the outcome helped the odds at Midway since 2 Japanese carriers were put out of action while the Yorktown was very important there
Americans. We will never forget this. We owe you big time. The English let us down. You guys didn't. When the chips are down, you know who your real friends are. God bless the Lady Lex. God bless the USN. God bless the great American people.
The internet brings us all closer globally but the words "Lest we Forget" will always serve to remind us that those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it. It was a different age and the end of a different world and should be remembered like any lesson, not to make ourselves seem better, we're not, but to highlight our ages own differences and to understand how we got to an age of orbital space stations and genetic healing.
@qxy333 that is so untrue. The reason for me even finding this video is because we are researching it and other battles australia was involved in. A bit of a generalization that needs to be rethought...
Yeah, I think the reason Gallipoli is so focused on here, especially on ANZAC Day, is because it was the first major Battle Australia was ever involved it. It was like the blood-christening of the country. I would prefer to have ANZAC at the forefront of memory, because we got our arses serves to us on a plate, and therefore dispels any idea that war it glamorous. It's better than simply remembering the triumphs and pretending the failures never occurred, like some nations do.
@DD826 the worst thing is that Australia treated its soldiers on return from vietnam with the same contempt as America did with theirs, mis-guided public turning on the ones who protect them and were ORDERED to go, and not the government who ordered them to go. ppl are so blind sometimes and turn on the wrong ppl. thank you for ur service brother and Lest We Forget.
@AussieSoldier1984 Thank you brother, I forgot to mention, that when we left Australia, we visited New Zealand, and the welcome was just the opposite, especially from the New Zealand men.

That's a pretty cool idea: a maritime nature reserve dedicated to the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Americans who lost their lives.

Just for the record most if not all of the historic footage in this clip is not from the actual battle of Coral Sea.

The only part of War History they teach in Australian schools is WWI gallipoli! It's the only battle most Australians knows about. So wrong!

@nicolaaist Yeah, you could be right. What I really meant was the Australian Media tend to only concentrate on Gallipoli.

While serving in Vietnam, our ship visited Australia and were treated like kings.
The people of Australia treated us better then our own country.
I would like to thank Australia, I guess they never will forget!

Thankfully, all of the crew of Lexington were able to be rescued. It blew up well after it was deserted.

Excellent video. My parents remembered this battle very well. My Dad saw service in the Pacific in World War II as a soldier in the AIF.
