I was there.Best show I ever saw. Those guys recorded at Morin-Heights.The best studio in Canada and now it's empty and dying. There's even an old piano lonely and dying with the rest of the building. It's very sad. That studio made everyone proud in Quebec.Everyone new about a studio nestled in the Laurentian forest cause a lot big names recorded there; The Police,Bowie,Bee Gees,April Wine and of course Rush.Having one of the best recording console it shouldn't have to close. Now it is silent.
Amazing song. I have lost my brother and my mother during the span of the release of this song. you can see the pain if Geddy and Neil's face in the video. I would love to see a live version that shows the same emotion. Rush reaches out to some of us with their lyrics that are the most profound in the industry. "Grace" while falling short in critics' eyes musically speaks to some of us on a very deep level. Share what you have and never let their influence die.

There's a website where you can read about what Neil's doing now. He's remarried and has a baby daughter. He wrote "like" 5 books to self heal from the tragedy that happened about 10 years before that....Just Google his name....The year 1984 was "between Karmapa's". 1 of the 2 top choices was born, but the guy who's now the 17th Karmapa had not shown up. The other was a toddler that year.

@BOARDERAMA Yeah...I went back and checked. I saw them @ Nassau Coliseum on this tour, and they definitely dropped it by then. I saw the last night of a five night stint @ Radio City abt. a year before, where they played three tunes from Grace Under Pressure (these gigs were in-between the release of Signals and Grace) and they didn't play this at that gig either. I was very fond of this song, and remember being disappointed that they didn't play it.
You are impressive for your research efforts. I can imagine how they may have juggled/shuffled the setlist(s) for this tour. I do recall by the time they made it to Vancouver (my first RUSH show, Front Row May 19 1984) the only song from P/G unplayed was Kid gloves. Interesting, cuz I never knew they did it live until I saw it online... : )
So I totally hear you on your memory and fact-checking. : )
@BOARDERAMA Just an FYI, the three tunes played at the Radio City five night stint were the unreleased "Red Sector A", "Kid Gloves", and "The Body Electric". That gig was notable for the keyboards going dead in "Analog Kid"; Geddy goes to hit the big chord to the "you move me, you move me" part, and no sound. Weird hearing just guitar, drums and vocals there. Probably the worst tech glitch I've ever seen at a Rush show, and pretty much the last I'd ever seen.
@spitfire71068 Ya know, it's funny that they seldom even have a glitch, at least that us fans see. I kind of like seeing the glitches, like the vid on YouTube where Al's guitar goes dead in the middle of the song. That stuff is kind of interesting.
@BeyondWithinOnline I've seen a few glitches here and there. Saw them almost collapse a tune at one point (song/tour slip my mind). I've seen Alex flip out on his guitar tech more than once, usually after busting a string and not getting another guitar in-hand in a timely manner. (Usually with evil glare in direction of tech.) By and large, they're pretty close to flawless, but never completely.
@spitfire71068 On the TFE Tour I saw Al flip out over a volume situation (probably monitors)... He kept giving the "up" sign, then after the song was over took off his guitar and walked over and gave someone an ear full. We're all human! hehe... Glad I wasn't that monitor (or whoever got chewed out) guy!

@miadolph72 Yes! We were at the same gig. I remember it was right after Marillion's first album came out. "We've been taking sh*t from a**holes for five nights now..." I rather liked Marillion; still do, particularly the Fish era.

Awesome. Afterimage has always been one of my very favorite Rush songs (one that is criminally underrated) and I have literally never even so much as heard a bootleg live version of this song. This is a real treat.
It is so cool to be able to see these old tours. This was just five days after I saw them for the first time, at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. They played every song from Grace Under Pressure except for Kid Gloves (which replaced Afterimage later on). Afterimage is one of their best songs, imho.
I think alot of people that don't get Rush fail to understand their affinity for a bit of cinema in their music. Many times I find myself thinking about moments in movies that align with a lyrics or musical passage as I listen to their songs.
Its something I wish would return in modern music.
"and suddenly you were gone, from all the lives you've left your mark upon."
One of my favorite (and saddest) Rush songs. Well, almost every Rush song is my favorite, but this just has a certain power to it that's hard to describe.
Fantastic song from the early days. Good to see some live footage still exists on it. I would hope it would be considered for any future tours. Drop Between the Wheels and add this tune ;)

Well, he was 23 in 1976 and he was 31 in 1984. That's an eight year difference. I think he was still capable of "shrieking" at the time, he just didn't do it.
I actually think that he used effects to get his voice that high, cause he couldn't even do those shrieks properly on the 2112 tour. check All the World's a Stage. it doesn't sound right.
I just listened to the 1984 live version of TOS. I think he changed the vocal arrangement because by then, he could get FAR more power on those middle notes--also he was told to stop shrieking in the early 1980s because it was going to permanently damage his voice.
It did damage his voice. Listen to it now, its a wreck, but other singers his age can still hit those highs with great power, such as Sammy Hagar. Didnt help that Geddy smoked for years too.
@Cygnusx27 yes, amazing love band, best i have ever seen, and thru the 70's and 80's i saw a lot of bands, including moody blues, pink floyd, tull, zepellin and robin trower, Rush wins the contest in my mind as being the band that sounds as good live as on record, maybe better!!!
