I don't know if anyone knows but; when you want to extetnal edit a texture image its usefull to have the face edges printed on the image, do you know a way to get face edges on the UV map?
Thank you for this, I am just starting out in Blender and this was very helpful. My only problem is that it does not show up in the 3D view window as you are editing (with the view set to "Textured"), this is not a major problem for me as it still renders perfectly. Thanks for a great tutorial.
What I would like to know is, how good is Blender compared to other commercial products like Lightwave and 3dsMax? Is it capable of creating high quality renders?
Ok, so I figured. It just depends on what the person wants as quality, and how good they are at doing it. I'm trying to get into modeling, rendering, animating, etc, it's just so frustrating, there's so many confusing buttons everywhere. I used lightwave once with a tutorial to create a cup, but I didn't understand how anything worked. =( No point in following all these tutorials if I don't know what everything really does. You know? I'm not talking about your tutorial btw, I'm just saying.
I'm gonna go on a limb here and say that the quality has less to do with the model (it does really, but just not quite as much), and more with the texturing and lighting.
@roejames12 u can make a model or animation just as good as 3ds max or lightwave they just have a few more things added on to make it simpler but people have made things just as good its not the software that makes it good its what u make out of the model/animation
Yup! Depending on what kind of object you are texturing it might take a little fooling around to get it to appear how you want it, but you can definitely do it.
A subsurf is a surface beneath the vertices of the object that you are manipulating. Using one gives the finished product a smoother appearance. To add one, select the object (the plane in this case) and down in the edit mode windo (F9) click 'Add Modifier. Select 'Subsurf' from the drop down menue. From there, you can increase the level to give it more faces and look better. A tip: before you render, you will want to click 'Apply' subsurf, otherwise, it won't appear in your final image/anim
thanks, i think i might know what your talking about but the "add modifier" button has nothing of a "subserf" ill have to expirement further.....do you think that maybe i could upload a .blend file to you that you texture for me?!?!? :D
Every object has a material. If 2 objects have the same material selected, then modifying this material will modify all objects that use this material. Texture(s) is/are part of a material.
if you mean object mode, just hit TAB and you can toggle between it and Edit mode that way. For any of the other modes I mentioned they are all in the buttons on the lower left hand corner. If you mean that actually game engine that blender has for writing video games, that is a much more advanced concept. I only do 3D rendering, so I can't help with that.
HELP!!! I just need a photo put on the plain. Is there any way to add a digital photo to my plain and be able to see it on the plain without having to render the plain to see the image on the plain? I need to see the image on the plain. I've been searching for hours to figure this out. Please help
Hmmm, the only way I'm aware of is to render it. If you don't want to take the time to do that then you can use the 'render preview' option under 'view'. If you only need color then you can add a material (see my other tutorial) and you can see that without rendering. Sorry I can't help that much. If I do learn a way I'll post it here.
Thanks man ! I have been looking around for hours to learn how to texture, and those I found were to advanced. But thanks to your tutorial I have learned how to do it and also how to build mountains! you are great! / the happy swedish guy :)
First you need something to make into a mountain, so so go into your add menu and select mesh, the click grid from that menu. Now you have a big square grid. Select on of the vertexes (the dots on the grid). Then, press the O key. This turns on your proportional edit fall-off. Now press G key, and move your mouse. You will now see a mountain began to form with the peak attached to your cursor. When it is as tall as you want it, press G key again. And there is your mountain.
Blender is just as capable as any other 3d modeling software, if not better.

you have to turn on the 'proportional edit falloff' It shows up as the little yellow circle in the very middle of the top bar in the buttons window.

I've like rendered one of my objects... but i can't start on another one....D: can you tell me how i switch which object i'm applying texture to?
66AngelOfDeath66 2 years ago
Every object has a material. If 2 objects have the same material selected, then modifying this material will modify all objects that use this material. Texture(s) is/are part of a material.
1. Create new object.
2. Create new material.
3. Apply this new material to this new object.
4. Play with the new material.

thanks so much no other place u can find for simple texturing

How do you make the texture go on the specific place you want to? is there any tutorials for hat?
Gorelazore 2 years ago 2
then you should use UV Texturing.
BlendingThing 2 years ago
You either let the program map the texures automatically based on some presets OR you do it manually via UV mapping.
