Hey Lee, i'm 15 years old, tryin to get my chest smaller, loves 2 train, but i feel uncomfertable with it, what method is best to make'em smaller...?;)
It sounds to me like you have to lose bodyfat and you may have a case of what's sometimes referred to as "man boobs". The best thing to help with fat loss is eating a clean diet, doing lots of cardio, in addition to weight training workouts. I recommend you go to my main channel page and download my FREE Bodybuilding Quick Start Kit. This will help you get started on the right track to getting in better shape.
does stoping bodybuilding for a month and not work as hard as before if u had work out hard before will that gain u fat and size, so wen u get back bodybuilding hard again you will gain more size?
I will pyramid up with every exercise. I always start with light weight warm up sets and do progressively heavier sets until I get up to my top working weight.
Hey lee ive been going to the gym for nearly 2 years now and i have problems developing my upper chest the sides and the middle of my chest are growing fine but the top isnt growing as rapidly as the rest why is this? and what can i do to make it all grow equally, thanks
There are literally dozens of different workout splits that you can follow. And there are pros and cons to all of them. I actually cover this in more detail on my blog LeeHayward. com just search for my post called "12 Week Workout Program".
Another question too will you get stronger and bigger with high reps or low reps? i do at least over 120 reps with bench press with my chest workout but only feel pain for a short time is that because high reps dont do hard work with my muscles or what?
I do flat bench press 4 sets of 10 then 3 sets of 15 then dumbbell curls til failure then I do dumbbell flys bentover standing up is this a good workout for my arms n chest?
is it better to do like 1 muscle a day or like everything mixed in one day? i tried both and for me it seems that by doing everything i get more work done, have more energy, and i actually see results (i dont wanna be big i just wanna be ripped, like have good cuts)
You can make good gains with both styles of training. But generally advanced bodybuilders will split up their body parts and work different muscles on different days.
I figure running and bench-pressing like a mother fucker will help me burn some fat in the stomach to chest region while building muscle and cardio. Thoughts?
The key to fat loss is your diet. Regardless of how hard you exercise, if your diet sucks you will not get lean. Check out my Extreme Fat Loss Program on my website LeeHayward*com if you want a complete fat loss diet plan.
Are dumbbells alone enough to build significant muscle mass? I'm only a beginner and not sure if I should invest in a weights bench or just stick to the dumbbells. I dont intend on becoming 'huge' but I still want it to be fairly noticeable. Im 17, around 154lbs (I am increasing my food intake with more carbohydrates to try and get some more fat on me as my body has quite the metabolism)
The best investment you can make is to join a gym. That way you'll have access to all the workout equipment you'll ever need. The difference between a home gym and a commercial gym is like night and day.
Hey Lee, yesterday was chest day and I did what you said about correct bench press form. Guess what? I was able to bench more weight than my friend who lifts 20% more on almost every other exercise! :D
would you say that this is a strong chest routine:
Flat dumbell press (3-4 sets of 8)
Incline barbel press (3-4 sets of 8)
pushups (3 sets of 25)
low cable flys (3-4 sets of 8)
dumbell flys (3 sets of 8)
is there any other exercises you would reccomend me doing for chest or anything that i should replace? i also change a couple of those exercises up now and then with dips or mix and match between barbell and dumbell. any input would be appreciated
hey lee, is it bad to work out chest, back,shoulders and arms all in one day and keep doing that over and over, or should i do chest, arms wait a day and then back and shoulders another day
I prefer to split up my body parts like (workout 1: chest, shoulders, triceps) (Workout 2: back and biceps) (workout 3: Legs and abs). That's a typical workout routine that I often follow.
Yeah, I've watched a lot of his videos as well. Overall I think he's a good guy and has some really good advice. But I don't agree with everything he says. I have a quick question for ya. I alternate working chest/tricep/deltoids and back/bicep/forearm. But I work my rear deltoids on days where I do my back exercises because it already seems to be getting a workout.
Should I switch it so I work all my deltoids the same day or is the overlap okay?
@hepotitus It really depends on how hard you are hitting your shoulders, because two days in a row isn't enough time for them to recover it you do them on separate days, but that's just an opinion there is no right or wrong. You should check out my channel, cuz i have free fitness videos that will help you reach your goal! Hey lee, i need some advice on how to get both of my pecs the same size? I do a lot of chest excercises on the smith machine and my right pec looks bigger than my left but my left is more cut at the bottom than my right if that makes sense, any advice is much appreciated thankyou.
Why do you explode your exercises so fast? For example, on the bench press, aren't you suppose to explode during the push and when coming back to your chest go slow?
Instead of doing something like 3x12 of an exercise with rest in between, I tried doing 1x12 of an exercise db curls, then straight to 1x12 shoulder press, 1x12 benchpress, 1x12 tricep then went straight back round and repeated again, then repeated a 3rd time. I then did a similar thing with leg-press, calf extensions & extensions & back.
All took 1hr and I felt my whole body had been worked.
Is this OK or shoudl you concentrate on 3x12 of an exersice then move to the next?
Been enjoying ur workouts, they're very down-to-earth/easily explained & u seem a genuine guy (no posing or need to show ur pecs or biceps after every workout!)
I was just wondering, I've been training for about 2mths now, & the other day went to gym & only had 1hr before it closed but wanted to get as much as I could out of my time (continued)....
It doesn't matter, when you spot someone very often you only need to help them just a little bit, usually only lifting 5-10 pounds and they'll be able to complete the rep on their own. @ochbolton2000 You shouldnt need a someone who is crazy strong to spot... a female spotter is fine because its only 5 to 10kgs max to which they should spot you for... not lift it for you..
hey lee..mind showing the proper way to do decline bench presses in your next chest workout video? Each time i do decline,my shoulders seem hurt. similarly with the incline...What am i doing wrong?
Have to say, I really like your clips. They are easy to understand, you describe exactly what muscles your exercises are working and how and why you vary your workouts.
You don't pose like certain other broadcasters, you don't make silly grunting noises or feel the need to flex you muscles to the camera afterwards.
I really like you r clips and and used them a lot for the basis of my top-to-toe schedule that I have been trying to put together for myself.
I'm currently 9 weeks out from my first natural bodybuilding show. I'm video logging my journey to the stage. Check out my channel for the videos and tell me what you think! If you like it, subscribe!
Hello Lee,i always use dumbbells in my chest workout i but recently i tried to increase weight on outer side of dumbbells on straight bench and it seems that hits lower chest very good ...So my question should i continue doing this,can this hurt my shoulders..Thanks.
@likspax if your body is not used to the heavy weight.yes it can hurt,but if you have good mussle memory and and are used to the weight...you should be fine,but never rush into heavys always work your way up. :)
When I do Biceps, triceps I have that sourness, but in case of a chest or back workout, there is more tiredness in my shoulders and biceps and less in my chest. After a chest workout, I can't say, " Oh my chest is so tired because I have done a Chest Workout"
hey lee im currently a football player and i just turned 16, my bench max is about 270, i want to buy your blast your bench program, should i get the original blast your bench or the one that gets you to do 315 for reps, im not sure which one i should buy thanks alot
@leemhayward Hey lee, but what if you have long arms? I heard you're only supposed to go 90 degree rotation. I'm 6'0 and i have a 6'4 wingspan, and I feel that if I go down to my chest it puts too much pressure on my delts. Thanks
hey lee.... which do you think is safer???? just out of curiosity, flat bench or incline bench???? safer on shoulders, elbows, risk of any injurys????
i'm 16 and i've been working out for a few months now...
i have been increasing the weights each week but I'm not sure if I've been doing it correctly. i've heard that if i do do heavy, i'll get stronger and not gain mass. should i increase my weight each week by 2.75 lbs ( 1.25K ) or just 1 lbs each week?
Yes, each week you should strive to lift more weight, but realize that it doesn't always happen. Some weeks you may not be able to increase the weights, but try to get stronger non-the-less.
@Ninchiboy Try trading stuff on craigslist. People also just give away weight sets sometimes. I traded stuff for the equipment I have to be honest. A bow for a bench, a few comics for a 150lbs. heavy bag. Stuff like that. If you can't do that, there's always push ups.
I do these routines in sets of 25, 6 or 8 sets for a total of 150 - 200 reps using a weight that makes me really work hard to complete that 25th lift. I have heard this is good for bulking fast. For getting past a plateau, I use a heavier weight for 10 reps, and 4 sets where I am really working hard to do that 10th rep. Any suggestions? Are whey supplements effective? I mix mine 3 scoops in 32 oz. soy milk.
@leehayward;hey i'm a football player and i had a few questions about a personal workout i was trying to set up i was wondering do you have a email or any contact information to were i can discuss a plan to build a more tone and powerful core
@leemhayward i have a question....i have belly fat and i wanted to get rid of it....i have a treadmill and wanted to start walking....how fast should i go if i wanted to lose the weight but keep the muscle im working on???????????????????????
i want a thicker chest,i heard fly's work the width and press' work the thickness is this true? and do fly's still work on the thickness even if its less than press?
You can work triceps with your chest and shoulders if you like. All these muscles are pressing muscles so they get worked during exercises like bench press, shoulder press, etc.
Absolutely, in fact a lot of the top powerlifters train in Chucks as well. They are an awesome lifting shoe, totally flat sole, and they provide a great base for weight lifting. I get a kick out of guys lifting in running shoes, you don't need padding and arch support when lifting. You just need a solid flat base.
Check out my recent videos, I actually explain proper bench press technique in detail. The video is called "How To Bench Press More Weight With Proper Technique"
Man boobs are usually caused by excess bodyfat, if you lose fat you can generally lose the "Moobs". However, if you are lean and still have man boobs than it's a more serious hormonal issue and you should probably check with your doctor. This is referred to as gynecomastia, and surgery may be required to remove the breast tissue under the nipples.
You have a lot of different viatmin shops out there that sells like protein or creatine. Many different kinds of either. Question is, does it really even work? Does it have all the vitamins and crap the nutrition list reads? EVEN if it does, does our bodies absorb all of it? or any of it?
hi...dear lee,i have diffrence in my chest,means my right side chest is little bit lower than left...i am very worry about this..can u help me?i think that many peoples have this problem...
It's common to have one side developed differently than the other. Just do a search for my video: "Do You Have One Arm Bigger Than The Other". In that video I cover some tips for building balance and proportion between the left and right sides of the body.
lee, i love the video. im 15 and ive been working out for a year but havent seen any dramatic changes. everytime i go, i do the most i can do with good form. and my dads huge, so he pretty much taught me how to workout. just about a month and a half ago i started taking creatine and i started noticing a little bit of a difference. i also eat really healthy, so im wondering what tips you got so i can start to see some real changes.
Hey Lee, I am trying to work on my pecs and chest more. i dont want a huge chest but i want to work on my pecs. If you could also help me out with a routine i could do at home everynight that would be great.. im just trying to tone out everything and not get big yet because i dive. I have a curling bar, barbell, and dumb bells. If you could help me out that would be great.
Hey Lee did you see the recent article about weightlifting and cardio on yahoo? I wanted to know what you thought of it. To find it, (since I can't post the link on youtube) you can type in "Warm Up With Cardio, Then Go To Weights. Right? Wrong."
Hi Lee. I am 15 years old. I dont have a barbell but I do have dumbells. I have good arms but my chest is rather flat. What would you reccomend the best workout for my chest using only dumbells? THANKS
Hi Lee. I am 15 years old. I dont have a barbell but I do have dumbells. I have good arms but my chest is rather flat. What would you reccomend the best workout for my chest using only dumbells? THANKS

Lee,what are your thoughts on burst traing/interval training. high intensity compound exercises versus isolation exercises, can u get away with not doing isolation excercises .some say doing long sessions of cardio on say a treadmill or bike is not as good for fat burning as high intensity burst training which can burn calories for up too 48 hrs after workout,whats your take?
I believe in both approaches. There are benefits to all different approaches of weight training and cardio. I'll use compound and isolation exercises. As well as high intensity cardio and long duration cardio. I like to cycle my approach. There is no "one way" to go about it.
Wah dude. Love your vids. However, i dont know what sets or reps should i keep to. Could you please advice? Is it a pyramid workout or like a work to failure work out? Please reply if you have the time. Thanks ^^
For this workout do a couple progressively heavier warm up sets for each exercise. Than take your working weight and do 3 sets of 10 reps per exercise. When you can get all 3 sets of 10 with good form, up the weight by 5 pounds for your next workout.
I was wondering, which one is more effective? Dumbbell press or regular bench press with a barbell? I find that I can do more weight with a barbell, but on the other hand I feel like I can get a better range of motion with the dumbbell press.
i recently stumbled over ur videos and they have been a great inspiration to me! i have a question regarding shoulder presses and shoulder related workouts. should u do them wit ur shoulder blades pulled together like how u would for chest presses? because i used to do it that way and it costs some discomfort in my shoulders....not sure whether the pain is originated in the joints, the upper traps, or the tendons. plz reply when available, thanks!!!
I'll arch my back somewhat for a shoulder press, but you don't have to pull your shoulder blades back like you do for benching. That would actually make doing shoulder presses more awkward.
@OMaaGaa dude funny u say that cause i was watching a show that had all different atheletes (footballers, soccer players, rowers, iron men) competing in competion, and it was the skinny swimmer with the widest shoulders.
@halfilipacman92 There really isnt a clear choice on which one is better. Each have their own pros and cons, although the majority of people prefer bench press. I personally prefer Dumbbell press as they are better for developing your stability in your upper body.
listen i bench two plates but one thing i hate about my pecs is that they are too.. outside if you know what i mean. i want them inside shaped, let me know how i can fix this.
@cervezero11 you prob no this but when you work on your chest you work your triceps. thats why if you work two muscles in the same session you can do chest and tri's or back and bi's ect
thanks for all the great addvise on the peck works because right now i am losing alot of weight and i went from 200 to 165 but i still have these discusting man boobs that i so want to lose. I hope with diet excersise and eating less calories every day i will lose them
I'm a 17 year old highschool students who wants to get large muscles, If anyone could help me by telling me what kind of work outs to do, or what kind of protein shakes to drink, it would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Lee, when i do my chest workouts my shoulders seem to work rather then my chest but i feel as though im doing everything the right way, is this normal or am i missing something?

Have to say, I really like your clips. They are easy to understand, you describe exactly what muscles your exercises are working and how and why you vary your workouts.
You don't pose like certain other broadcasters, you don't make silly grunting noises or feel the need to flex you muscles to the camera afterwards.
I really like you r clips and and used them a lot for the basis of my top-to-toe schedule that I have been trying to put together for myself.
Cheers for the effort!

Why is it so?

Is it important to bring the barbell on your chest?
kevinoo5 6 months ago
@kevinoo5
Yes, that's a full range of motion. The lower you go the more you activate your chest muscles.

@leemhayward Thanks. Love your website by the way.

@leemhayward Hey lee, but what if you have long arms? I heard you're only supposed to go 90 degree rotation. I'm 6'0 and i have a 6'4 wingspan, and I feel that if I go down to my chest it puts too much pressure on my delts. Thanks

hey lee.... which do you think is safer???? just out of curiosity, flat bench or incline bench???? safer on shoulders, elbows, risk of any injurys????
crotchrockett004 7 months ago
@crotchrockett004
I would probably say incline, less people tend to get injured with incline bench compared to flat bench.

Hi lee hayward,
i'm 16 and i've been working out for a few months now...
i have been increasing the weights each week but I'm not sure if I've been doing it correctly. i've heard that if i do do heavy, i'll get stronger and not gain mass. should i increase my weight each week by 2.75 lbs ( 1.25K ) or just 1 lbs each week?
xxxkhafanxxx 7 months ago
@xxxkhafanxxx

I've got a good basic routine outlined at: leehayward*com/bodybuilding_workout.htm
leemhayward 7 months ago
I do these routines in sets of 25, 6 or 8 sets for a total of 150 - 200 reps using a weight that makes me really work hard to complete that 25th lift. I have heard this is good for bulking fast. For getting past a plateau, I use a heavier weight for 10 reps, and 4 sets where I am really working hard to do that 10th rep. Any suggestions? Are whey supplements effective? I mix mine 3 scoops in 32 oz. soy milk.

IF you do chest with shoulders when do you do Triceps a day after right ? and what do you pair tricep with ?
EVILAKUMA 7 months ago

You can work triceps with your chest and shoulders if you like. All these muscles are pressing muscles so they get worked during exercises like bench press, shoulder press, etc.

Absolutely, in fact a lot of the top powerlifters train in Chucks as well. They are an awesome lifting shoe, totally flat sole, and they provide a great base for weight lifting. I get a kick out of guys lifting in running shoes, you don't need padding and arch support when lifting. You just need a solid flat base.

i have moobs do you have any specific exercise to make it gone please help???
ijoyize 8 months ago
@ijoyize

Lee,what are your thoughts on burst traing/interval training. high intensity compound exercises versus isolation exercises, can u get away with not doing isolation excercises .some say doing long sessions of cardio on say a treadmill or bike is not as good for fat burning as high intensity burst training which can burn calories for up too 48 hrs after workout,whats your take?
topshelf1009 9 months ago
@topshelf1009

Thanks ^^
614greenday 9 months ago
@614greenday
For this workout do a couple progressively heavier warm up sets for each exercise. Than take your working weight and do 3 sets of 10 reps per exercise. When you can get all 3 sets of 10 with good form, up the weight by 5 pounds for your next workout.
leemhayward 9 months ago
@leemhayward Thanks man. I'll be sure to do it. But i cant keep my form right for dumbbell lifts. I will work on that. Thanks anyways ^^
614greenday 9 months ago
Hey Lee.
I was wondering, which one is more effective? Dumbbell press or regular bench press with a barbell? I find that I can do more weight with a barbell, but on the other hand I feel like I can get a better range of motion with the dumbbell press.
What would be your advice on this?
Thanks
fazer990 9 months ago
@fazer990
Your pretty much just answered your own question, there are pros and cons to both variations. I personally alternate between the two.
leemhayward 9 months ago
i recently stumbled over ur videos and they have been a great inspiration to me! i have a question regarding shoulder presses and shoulder related workouts. should u do them wit ur shoulder blades pulled together like how u would for chest presses? because i used to do it that way and it costs some discomfort in my shoulders....not sure whether the pain is originated in the joints, the upper traps, or the tendons. plz reply when available, thanks!!!
soFresh207 10 months ago
@soFresh207
I'll arch my back somewhat for a shoulder press, but you don't have to pull your shoulder blades back like you do for benching. That would actually make doing shoulder presses more awkward.
leemhayward 10 months ago
@leemhayward that makes perfect sense. thanks a lot!!!
soFresh207 10 months ago
What is most effective to building your chest during the bench press, keeping your hands wide on the bar or keeping them close together?
mattm0183 10 months ago
@mattm0183
Generally the wider you go the more you'll work the outer chest. The closer you go the more you'll work your inner chest and triceps.
leemhayward 10 months ago
@mattm0183 both work different parts of the chest

I'm just wondering, which exercise is more effective for the chest, the bench press or dumbell press?
halfilipacman92 10 months ago
@halfilipacman92 There really isnt a clear choice on which one is better. Each have their own pros and cons, although the majority of people prefer bench press. I personally prefer Dumbbell press as they are better for developing your stability in your upper body.
