My two cents on this is that this is a truck, Something often used for work, loading zones, construction sites, landscaping etc. It's gonna bump into a few things and a few things are gonna bump into it and it should be able to with stand that or else it should not be in a work zone.
i backed my 2004 nissan frontier into a pole at more than 5 mph and all it did was bend the bumper back a TAD, some muscle work and it looks good. all and all its kinda hard to believe 5 mph would cause that much damage.
@deathstardisco It's not the quality of the truck that's the problem, it's dishonest, expensive repair shops that are the problem. My father's friend owns a body shop and he said that 2000 dollars is at least 1000 dollars too high for that damage.
since the 70s? cars in the usa were supposed to be able to withstand 5mph bumps without much or any damage to the car or person. remember those ugly bumpers they forced mercedes & bmw to outfit with springs in bumpers? well at least those cars did better than this, and don't give me the lies about impact absorption. it's 5 MILES PER HOUR, (walking quickly)
the bumper falling off it's hinges (which has not strong enough metal to repel the impact nor advanced enough "honey comb" to absorb it) or creating dents has nothing to do with crumple zones or safety. it is simply a piece of shit, plastic painted the color of chrome
yay...at least i know the highway institute safety SUCK and are all just here for money...this car did well compared to other cars...infact name a car which did better???
Bumper was still intact. That's the great thing about those metal bumpers. Just the tailgate got fucked up and probably whatever holds the bumper. And 5 mph is a decent speed. My pops did more damage but at the same price to an '80s Mercedes in an '01 Corolla with his foot loosely on the brake at a light. I say he was going like 1 mph at most. Yet, his new '97 Explorer has been rear-ended 3 times with no damage at all.
i guess new bumpers are ment to protect people who hit you or if you hit a human but still trucks need to have truck bumpers dodge was the first to have such a shitty bumber now everyone has it and worse eveditly
Some non-BS information directly from the IIHS (which is where this video came from): G=Good A=Acceptable M=Marginal P=Poor 2004-2008 F-150: G,G,G,G,G,G 2007-2008 Tundra: G,A,G,A,G,G 1999-2006 Silverado: P,G,G,G,G,P 2006-2008 RAM 1500: G,G,G,M,G,G 2004-2008 Titan: G,A,G,G,G,G Note the F-150 is the ONLY one with a perfect score. These are the FACTS, not Internet BS. GO CHECK IT
Seargentnewbooty is right. I checked the website and the Tundra did get a Top Safety Pick with a G in Front, Side, and Rear! It is also the only truck out of the group of 4 to offer electronic stability control standard. The Ram and Titan trucks have it as options, but the Ford does not even offer it at all.
That is only for the frontal offset test results. That in itself is categorized under 6 more specific areas (in order): Structure/safety cage, Head/neck, Chest, Leg/foot (left), Leg/foot (right), and Restraints/dummy kinematics. It got G in all 6 of those categories, which gives it a G in frontal offset test. But it never tested for side impact for reasons unknown, and did poor on the rear crash.
Ya but its built Ford Tough!!.... im sorry but im just not seeing it hear. Sad to see it. But I guess theres always gonna be someone who will buy a FORD!! No matter what.
yes, you hit a non moving object at ANY speed you are going to do DAMAGE, that truck weighs in at about 5,000 lbs, it's going to bend something!!! it's called inertia, and at that speeds you can actually get whip lash, so auto manufactures put in crumple zones!!!
but the issue with this is that the ford truck sustained way more damage in the 5 mph test then other trucks did. But who knows how the other trucks preformed in the safety areas compared to the f-150
The F150 did better in high speed crashes than the other big trucks. The other trucks performed similarly in these same 5 mph crashes, there was not "way more damage". The other trucks werent even close to the F150 in high speed crashes when it came to safey.
No excuse for car companies to not do a better job with the 5mph test. I remember they did this 5mph test to a Mercedes SLK a couple years ago and it too scored poor. Mercedes had an excuse that it was due to the crumple zones and it was designed that way. LOL, it's more like designed to get money from you when you take it to their body shop.
that's crazy, i don't believe this test, we have an 04 supercab-my brother backed up into a mercury cougar about 10-15 miles, and u can't tell he backed up into something-no scratches or dents or bends... the cougar however-well that car's passenger side was a goner, and no it doesn't have the IV trailer hitch or anything
Haha, I ran into a 70's Ford Truck bumper with a 90's Crown Victoria. Crown Vic - $10,000 in damage. 70's Ford Truck - Broken righ rear tail light. lol! But, how many deaths have been caused by those trucks?
Damn, that sucks. What speed though? Oh, and how many death have been prevented by those trucks, the drivers are safer. And they are safer then other cars when they crashing into tree and pole too. We should all drive them.
Alright, you get people to stop doing that and you could build them out of anything. Make them out of plastic and rubber or whatever would be cheapest. But I'm willing to bet you'll never be able to do so.
First of all trucks are much bigger and heavier than cars so they have to be designed to absorb some impact for a car's sake. Sure ford could make the F150 suffer no damage from tests like this, but then if it hit a car it would total the car. All vehicles are built with crush zones...
poor 2004 ford f150 5 mph rear into pole test damage poor 2004 ford f150 5 mph front into angel barrier test damage poor 2004 ford f1505 mph front into flat barrier test damage poor 2004 ford f150 5 mph rear into flat barrier damage
Crazykure, this test is carried to verify how much would cost to repair a vehicle after a generic low speed collision.
That is why is carried by the Insurance Institute. Europe has a similar test called Thatcham. I will ignore your "stupid American" comment, but I know who is the stupid here.
your dumb bro. 2000 is for the 8" bed reg cab tundra. the reg cab 8" bed F150 holds 3056. the CREWMAX hold 980. maybe you should learn the info on YOUR truck. search "bed bounce" on youtube abd watch that video. tundra looks like its gonna fall apart. tin can on wheels.
i aint gonna get injured backin into a pole. 40-50 mph you can get killed. tundra? haha, wouldnt want to be in that thing. you tried putting anything in your bed yet? crewmax's awesome payload rating of....980 lbs!! i can haul well over 2500 in my supercab F150. oh ya nice 3-piece c-channel frame on that tundra too. real sturdy...
