@coraliscopuselaborat I loved it in Hawaii and it worth it if you get orders there. Granted I was stationed @ Pearl Harbor on a ship which was underway a lot. But it was still awesome when I was there.

My wife and I just received orders to Hickam. We have found a wonderful home on the windward side of the island at a town called Kaaawa. I was hoping that you could give me some feedback on what to expect. Racism and crime? Or should I expect something entirely different?
Wow! You got a commute ahead of you, at least for Hawaii. Kaaawa I have driven through a lot on my trips to various beaches along North Shore and it seems nice. As far as crime I am not sure there, ice use and all that is associated with that drug. As far as the racism you should be able to pic up on the vibe that you are not wanted in certain areas. Most of the da locals that say stupid shit are already low on the totem pole of life. Trust me there a lot of locals that are cool if you are.
What are my chances of getting stationed at Hickam if i asked for it? I want to be part of their airlift wing there (C-17's), instead of like being at McGuire, or Charleston.

Not sure on your chances, I'm a Navy man. I was TAD to JPAC which had me staying on Hickam (Pearl Harbor is right next to it).

i used to live along the entrance to pearl harbor. i was there when the missouri was brought through! hickam really is awesome!
